- I'm completely disgusted with the cold-hearted director of the canal who blamed the lack of safety implements on "bureaucracy". Call it like it is. It's anti-immigrant sentiment. If 5 Americans had died in the canal, Americans would have united and made sure the safety implements were put in place. One child died while crossing a busy intersection on her bicycle in my neighborhood; we now have a pedestrian bridge over the highway so that no one else has to lose their life there. How many people have to die in this canal before someone will do something? These are human beings. Sure, what they're attempting to do is illegal, but does that mean they deserve to die? Many states are eradicating the death penalty because it's perceived as inhumane to kill even the most heinous murderers. Let's not forget who is harvesting the crops in California and other states so that we Americans can enjoy CHEAP fresh produce 365 days per year. Show some compassion and humanity, people!

- Wow - I can't believe I watched a story about "safe illegal crossing of our American border by a canal meant to carry water not people" Seriously people get real - Don't cross and stay alive - oh but that would make sense? What's next, red carpet treatment? Or how about boat service? AGAIN SERIOUSLY this subject is just plain ridiculous.

- The flood of illegals from Mexico must be stopped and the only way to do this is Bring Our Troops home from the Middle East where they are dying for Israels interests and place them along the US Mexican border where they can fight the surge of illegal drugs and Mestizos.

- This is nothing more than Fabian Socialist journalism where a non-issue is made into an emotional news issue to support the Marxist addenda. So very Kosher Mafia of CBS. There is nothing wrong with the canal as there are warning signs along its banks, which tell people not to trespass. The illegal Mestizos who are criminals chose to break the law again even though it is clear that they will most likely drown.

- Ok, I'm ANGRY now, and I don't even live in the U.S. I just read an article on here about some woman who is upset that her and her family have to leave Arizona after living there for 15 years. They have 10 CHILDREN!!! That is absolutely pathetic. What is the matter with people? Have they not heard of birth control? They sneak into the U.S., STEAL American jobs, STEAL American health care, all because they can't get them from their own country, and then they proceed to have one kid after another. They are ABUSING and taking advantage of the American system! I don't give a damn whether they are from Mexico or wherever, they need their ass es kicked out and sent back to their own country. Why should anyone give a damn about them when they could care less about the Americans that they are stealing from?
These people give their names, and haven't moved out of Arizona yet, so maybe they should be arrested before they can move on to another state. They should NOT be allowed to continue their abuse. They can go back to their own country and over populate it. - Reply to this comment

- I agree with the posters that have suggested putting ladders on the MEXICO side of the canal ONLY.
We have to do more to secure our borders, illegal aliens are bankrupting our country. We cannot afford to pay for them like we have been.

- thank you to 60 minutes , i was beginning to think that true love did not exhist , until i saw your story about the american canal , and about the little 10 year old girl who gave up her own life to save her sister in the name of freedom , i dont think that there has been ever a greater american than her who has done a greater thing for freedom and love , it moved me to tears , i would gladly trade my own life for hers and give her the life she so desired , i dont care how many people come over our border and bless our country , if they all have half the heart that she had , greed is a terriable thing it will last a season and cosume you , love is timeless and will set you free , dont our children desire freedom ,

- fair and balanced.....riiiiight. Where was the interview with the Mexican authorities and the question as to why they don't put up a fence on their side to prevent the illegals from entering the canal? Huh? What are they doing to save their citizens?
