- This fellow wihheld information on his own criminality while dropping a dime on his criminal allies. His criminal wrongdoing was discovered after the fact.

- This is the tip of the tip of the iceburg. The rich don't pay as much tax as the middle class. This country is run on the backs of the middle class. Where did banking start to beguin with? The Knights Templar created what became the modern banking system and after The French king executed many of them the rest excaped to Scotland and Swisserland among other places. They are the origin of the Swiss banks. Lots of history, corruption and secrets involved in what has become our world zeitgeist. It's also international bankers that control our government since they charge rent on our own money. The Fed is owned by these thieves. This system can be destroyed by every Ameerican getting our of debt. Debt is the engine that drives the Fed and the economy.

- This is another example of the rich guilty getting off scot free while the whistleblower goes to jail. One would think the American justice system is totally screwed in the head. One would think right if this the case.

- I think 60 minutes should communicate the comments of their viewer...to the department of justice. Most of the comments are of similar content.

- Sending Birkenfeld to jail/prison is this country's way of preventing more disclosures. Keep in mind that former Reaganite and U.S. Senator Phil Gramm worked for this Swiss bank at a high level and a high salary.

- The offshore holdings of corporations and wealthy individuals in countries like Dubai, Cayman Islands, etc. should be pursued by the IRS to the fullest extent! Even Household Bank (HSBC International) openly states on its offshore banking website that "Offshore banking is a convenient, safe and potentially tax-efficient way to grow your wealth." These people are blatantly evading US taxation on wealth generated upon US infrastructure, and they have little problem watching US bridges disintegrate, the US electrical grid become plagued with brownouts and blackout problems, the US roads buckle, and the US education systems crumble/US children be FORCED into lifelong student loan debt while they ship trillions of US-owed tax dollars overseas into their own personal banks and investments!
This is treason.
It should be prosecuted as such.
People like Mr. Birkenfield (who used to be part of the problem and are now part of the solution) should be heralded as a good international citizen and as a true friend of the citizens of the USA!!! - Reply to this comment
- Again the rich get away with the crime. Berkenfeld should not do time in prison. I bet no one will come forth to help the Us. Gov. out again. Just when you are trying to do the right thing you go to jail! We are sick of the legalized crooks!!!! ( Politicians)

- why don't you all wake up and look a litle further... This is all about taxes... If u rememeber the Government tried to pass a law and try to get all americans who have swiss accounts to become public, so they could be taxed. The next question we should be asking is why do the rockefellers and others do not have to pay taxes and we the taxpayers pay for the way they live!!!!!!!
