Comments on: Is the U.S. Senate broken?

- Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans should be blamed for ALL the partisan gridlock in the Senate with their record breaking filibusters. And thanks to McChinless, the Senate now needs a super majority of 60 votes to get anything passed for the president's signature. Like when 40 senate Republicans voted against the Veterans Jobs Corp Bill.

- The problem with Congress is that we have a bunch of career politicians that know no other life but a political one. If we had term limits and these representatives had to come home and run a business or work to keep a job in this economy, they might be more ready to "compromise" for the sake of the country. Instead, they are so polarized in their beliefs on how to fix the country, any form of compromise is impossible.

- Why did Steve Kroft not bring up the fact that Harry Reid has not passed a budget in 4 years? You don't need 60 votes to pass a budget. You only need a simple majority to pass a budget. But no 60 minute cover Reid and never brings this up. What a disappoint.

- IT IS NO MYSTERY THAT THE SENATE IS DEADLOCKED. TO START SENATOR MCCONNELL AND SPEAKER BOEHNER MADE IT ABUNDANTLY CLEAR THAT THEIR PRIORITY AND STRATEGY WAS TO MAKE SURE PRESIDENT OBAMA WOULD NOT GET RE-ELECTED. GOP MEMBERS OF BOTH HOUSES WILL NOT ORIGINATE OR PASS ANY LEGISLATION THAT DOES NOT CONSIST OF ALL THEIR DEMANDS, SO THEY ARE SAYING THAT EITHER THEY GET EVERYTHING OR NOTHING GETS THROUGH THE CONGRESS. GIVEN THAT, DEMOCRATS WOULD HAVE TO ACCEPT ALL GOP DEMANDS EMANATING FROM THE TEA PARTY AND GROVER NORQUIST...HARDLY AN ATMOSPHERE OF BIPARTISAN COMPROMISE. MEANWHILE, AS THE STORY POINTED OUT, THE REPUBLICAN SENATE HAS STALLED LITERALLY EVERY PIECE OF LEGISLATION THAT DOES NOT MEET THE SAME CRITERIA.

- Sixty minuets you should be ashamed of yourself...you aired that bullshi story about what's wrong with congress like you all don't have a clue what is going on in America....Is there a bunch of idiots at 60 mins....and that idiot Mccollugh that you interviewed...how do you think he was raised...as a racist just like ninety percent of the other old farts in congress and in the senate. McCollugh is an idiot...he said the greatest president in the history was one who owned slaves...give me a fricking break. All you old racist ass white men may as well get used to the idea that there isn't going to be anymore "boy go around to the back door and come in"...those days are over...there isn't going to be anymore slaves in America, wether you like it or not....and another thing....it is probably going to be a long time before another white man see the white house as president. Your whole show for November 4 2012 was a pathetic joke....why don't you and McCollugh take your racist ***** on back to the seventeen hundreds and stay there....this country is bigger than you old racist ass white people so go back in time and screw yourself....all of you. You and John Boehner and Sarah Palin and that young racist ******* from the state of Virginia and any other racist idiot in America is whats wrong with America...as if you all don't know what the problem is. George washington...the ******* you and McCollugh admire so much...had he done the right thing when he was president, could have made America a much better country than it is....as a matter of fact has a lot to do with the shape that America is in today. How many presidents did America put in office before even one tried to do what was best and decent for the country....and thirty minuets after he was elected some jackass politician gets on national tv and says he will do everything possible to make sure this administration doesn't succeed...and you jackoffs at sixty minuets have the nerve to do a show talking about we're wondering what's wrong with the senate and the congress....i hope you idiots at sixty minuets don't think everyone in America is like you all.....stupid and asleep. What the hell is wrong with sixty minuets.....?

- It's very sad to learn that the repubican party has so much dislike for the president of the united states that they will do what ever it would take to make President Obama a one term president even if the country as a whole suffer. When i last check the people of this great country will decide who will become president NOT CONGRESS.

- The biggest problem about Washington today is the ONE MAN FILIBUSTER. That is Harry Reid, he has shelved dozens of house bills not allowing them to see a committee. Harry is a partisan hack running interference for Obama so that Obama does not have to sign a veto.
We have to look at the 2 years super majority. Obama said the Republicans could come along for the ride, but had to sit in the back. The Obama administration set up a snitch site (yeah, like the Nazis would. They also sent directives out to law enforcement to be aware of certain bumper stickers as possible Right wing extremists.
It's time for a change in Washington. In the white house and the senate leadership. Any vote for a democrat senate candidate is a vote for Harry Reid, the partisan hack, a ONE MAN FILIBUSTER. - Reply to this comment

- We need to acknowledge that we are the biggest part of the problem. An electorate divided 50/50 will produce such a narrowly divided government that no clear majority moves it's agenda forward long enough to produce any real results. Until we have some strong political movement in one direction, liberal or conservative, we will be stuck with gridlock. With such an apathetic(56% of the population voted for president in 2008 and it drops to 36% in the 2010 midterms), uninformed (that's the reason negative ads work) electorate, I'd say we don't have much hope of breaking that gridlock anytime soon. And by the way, term limits in a legislative body just create a bunch of folks who have no institutional memory and have to leave office by the time they learn how of to do their jobs.

- Thanks to Harry Reid, acting as Obama's puppet, absolutely.
Obama is controlling everything that happens in the Senate, just the same as if he was personally running it. - Reply to this comment
