While I applaud the children that are attending these schools, and the teachers that are acting under (what they believe to be) a legit means to teach science and math, my concerns are not unlike those expressed by the dismmised teacher but go futher. At this moment, I uderstand that these are public schools, not paying state or local taxes. Is the property under the ownership of the Turks? If so, what happens to these properties throughout the United States when the schools close? When we, as Americans, realize that selling property to non US citizens could loose us our country?

We just watched the Gulen Movement segment and wondered what percentage of special needs students attends these charter schools. Are the schools committed to educating all students or only students who present a particular learning profile. Just wondering--

I dont mind paying taxes for charter schools in the US, but for a poweful Imam that is invisible in the US hiring Turkish teachers and building a scholastic empire. There should be a Federal Investigation. If he's really that powerful, he has a powerful financial following of his own......

I have just watched the segment on 60 minutes and as a Harmony parent there are some points to talk about. Let me start with the things 60 Minutes take into granted:

1) The schools are successful on Math, Science etc.

2) There is a growing demand about them each and every year. Waiting lists reflect this demand.

3) There is no religious education, including Islam, at Harmony Schools.

4) The so-called Gulen guy never visited any of these schools.

5) Two Harmony schools are counted as Miracle Schools by the Newsweek magazine.

Then what is the problem? For 60 Minutes crew, Harmony brings teachers from overseas.

Yes, Microsoft and Apple also bring Indian engineers as if there are no qualified engineers here in America! Indians alone constitute the half of the H1B visa recipients in the U.S. Those Turks are not more than 2 percent.

Many colleges bring professors from overseas. Just check the records.

If someone is qualified, then he or she is welcome in our free land! Remember what Mitt Romney said during one of the GOP debates? "We need to bring more people from overseas who are qualified in math, science and engineering."

One more thing: I didn't see any connection between Harmony Schools and any Islamic movement other than allegations and suppositions. A former employee of a Ohio School says something, but she is a former employee which tells us enough about her possible intentions.

Keep up the "best" work Harmony!

You're missing the whole point of charter schools - they are purely a money-making operation, unlike TRUE public education... Charter schools high test scores are not due simply to their teachers, charter schools have the right to kick out students who are not performing up to par and pull other students from their waiting list to fill their quotas. That is something that TRUE public educators do not do - hence one reason for test scores in public schools to be lower than charter schools. A disappointing story with information missing...and just one more knock at public educators in this country.

I am not sure what is wrong with Turks teaching our kids science and math. Do the critics think that, since we can't find American teachers for these vital skills, the kids should do without? Or do they just resent some foreigner sending needed aid to the United States in an area where we are particularly backward?

This is heifer dust, and I am extremely suspicious. There are many, many qualified American teachers, but there is more here than meets the eye....
They are not only making money they are creating creating a pathway for these "teachers" to come to America, and I must ask for what real purpose?
I doubt the sincerity of the this Gulen Movement or the real agenda.
If you believe this is someone doing simply good, I have a bridge to sell you....
This is a Trojan Horse.

What was this supposed to prove? That American teachers are stupid? That Americans are paranoid about Muslims? That charter schools are disliked? Or that America is a long way from the nation the Founders hoped for?
