The GOP loves it, thy would rather bankrupt us in unnecessary and illegal military hostilities world-wide, than use the money t keep the people strong that the military is supposed to be protecting.

They want to blame this problem on Mr. Obama, but it is their own penchant for war, coupled with their aversion to pay for it, that has caused beneficial programs like this and others to be eliminated.

As far as those laid off, the GOP would call them lazy, and insist that it is their own fault that they are unemployed.

Marsha B. Cohen I was appalled that Scott Pelley cajoled the displaced Kennedy Space Center workers into blaming President Obama for their joblessness. Obama is not an autocrat--he is an elected president of the US with the most recalcitrant and obstreperous Congress in living memory. Are these people totally clueless about the role of Congress in Appropriations? Their member of Congress, Rep. Sandy Adams (a moderate Republican) introduced HR 2712, The Space Shuttle Work Force Revitalization Act on July 30, 2011, and it has languished in the Committee to which it was referred ever since. GovTrack gives it only an 8% chance of passage. Sixty Minutes should be ashamed of emulating Fox News and conveying to the program's viewers the distorted impression that the decision on the Space Program was the president's to make, and he personally let them down, rather than the skinflint Republicans Florida sends to Congress (and to their own state legislature) who leave the president holding the bag for all promises left unfulfilled.

Just lost respect for Scott Pelley....My husband & I have both worked for the gov...now retired. What did these people do with the great paychecks...great insurance plans....the great profit sharing programs all those years working for NASA???? Why was it necessary to bring this subject and those tearful former employees back.....POLITICS! Shame Scott Pelley. Will you dare come to my hometown & interview all the people layed off from their jobs???

60 minutes forgot the "why" in their reporting. After emphasizing that Obama had broken a promise, the program failed to tell "why" he broke that promise. The program then went on to detail how much destruction the broken promise had brought upon the area - businesses closed, unemployment, problems with medication, etc. The word "suicide" was also included in the segment. The story did include the fact that congress increased the funding cut, but again failed to say "why". I have been so proud of the space program since I was a child and was shocked to find that it was being discontinued, but after some research I found there was a logical reason for it. I found out "why". Now, if I did not have that information, which I am sure most of your viewers do not, I would think, after watching the segment, that the POTUS was a liar and did not care about people, or the rich history of the space program. Your "journalism" is second-rate, and it's almost like it was written by David Koch. While we are only two people, my wife and I will no longer watch the CBS channel.

Mr. Pelley from this report, it seems that you were here for the last shuttle then came back 7 months later. Why at that time did you not interview people to hear the good things that we have been doing. Many of the businesses that you showed have been closed for years.. The hotel that you showed, been closed probably 6 to 10 years. You showed a home with over grown weeds, but did you know that the sales of home in 2011 was up over 2012. There many postives.. come back and interview people who have made it work..

TO SPO101

Why do liberals always have to resort to namecalling rather than putting forth a credible argument. It makes you look like as much of a clown as Obama.

I'm a second generation KSC worker. We were not prepared for layoffs because OBAMA came to KSC in August 2008 and told us if he was elected we would all continue on and there wouldn't be layoffs.

The total number of people unemployed from KSC including others affected (like Shuttles restaurant) is 23,400. How do you prepare for that?

Our purported unemployment (11%) is, in reality closer to 16%.

I have hundreds of friends who have lost everything. Unemployment is gone, they're walking away, they're depressed, they can't get a job. Many others are close to jumping off one of our bridges.

This is the first news story on us - we thought no one cared. thank you

"Obama's Legacy" - The President that Killed the Space Program.

Why anyone voted for this clown is beyond me. After promising the people of NASA and Brevard Cty., FL on a campaign stop in 2008, he turns around in 2010 and ends future manned space travel and the other clowns in the democratic congress defund any hope of manned space flight. Something that has been the pride of America for over 50 years and this idiot does away with it in one fail swoop. Way to go Mr. President. You've made us all "real proud."

My name is Bill Brown and I live in Nassau Bay, the small community just accross NASA Road 1 from Johnson Space Center. I don't think that we have been hit quite as hard by the virtual shutdown of NASA Brevard County has, but we are feeling the effects also. What I haven't heard anyone mention is the effect on research in all the technologies that were developed with NASA grants. Approximately 75% to 90% of all the technological research in the USA was funded either NASA or the military. Now all of the NASA funding is gone and a large portion of the military funding is being dropped. How will we ever regain our technological leadership without this research funding?????
