- So why can't they have a nuclear weapon? It doesn't make sense to nuke all the Palestinians living in Israel. If you want a regime change you take out all the Ayatollahs at their next conference

- The US needs to reinstate the draft. The politics of war changes immensely when serving in the military is no longer voluntary.

- This is the GOP strategy and it coincides with their denouncing higher education and attempts to make it inaccessible. Keep the mass American population ignorant and economically strapped to the point that the youth will have no alternative but to join a military branch and then can be sent off to fight and die in these wars Iraq, Afghanistan, and soon Iran. We will be our own undoing as Eisenhower's warnings are ignored. Sad.

- You also have to remember that if Bush would not have attacked Iraq for no reason, China and Russia would be behind us now with tougher sanctions against Iran. Now they can't trust us with UN Resolutions. But instead those who like to watch the first days of shock and ah on the tele, are apparently bored and want some more. Further if Iraq was a little stronger, they would better keep Iran in check. But again, Bush ruined that.

- Amazing that so many people have already forgotten Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan...there is no such thing as a quick and painless war.
There is a grand total of zero direct evidence that Iran is developing a nuclear war. i dont doubt that there is a lot of suspiscion, but there is no direct evidence, as of yet. look it up.
Iran and Ahmedinijad never said they wanted to erase Israel, that is a myth. Ahmedinijad is a nasty little man, and the supreme leader is a racist psycho, but they are not completely stupid. The ex-mossad chief has it right, there is still time for rational diplomacy.
he is also right that israel prefers america to do the spending and the dieing.
to the people who say things like "bomb iran flat" - you are horrible and small-minded people. about 99.999% of iran is just normal people tryign to make a living and be good. they do not deserve to be murdered. they do not deserve to be dehumanized. grow up. there is no simple solution.
thats why we are lucky to have a progressive and thoughtful intellect like Obama in the white house right now. imagine what would happen if one of these mouth-breathing right wingers like mccain or romney was in office. those fools would have us killing innocents and stepping into the middle of the quicksand with a retard smile on their face. - Reply to this comment
- Once again 310 million Americans will receive propaganda / point of view from those representing only 1-2% (Jewish) of the USA population, who will typically give Israel a higher consideration because it is their own special get away place. The other 98% of Americans who get suckered are ineligible for citizenship or even immigration to Israel. We are expected to the bills and give up our lives.
Israel should receive no more special consideration than the Church of England or the Vatican. They are a religious entity and offer the USA nothing except grief and mega costs, and manipulation of our government. - Reply to this comment
- Dagan replies, "If I prefer that someone will do it, I always prefer that Americans will do it," he says.

I guess after you play policeman of the world for long enough - people just EXCPECT you to keep that up. - Reply to this comment
- We can trust the opinion of a former Mossad chief over the saber-rattling of the GOP candidates who do not have the facts. President Obama is being provided status briefings and knows hour by hour where the situation is at any given time. McCain needs to stop his macho act when he has nothing to lose but your children.

- "and even its president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - who has called for Israel to be annihilated - "
This is COMPLETELY untrue. He has never done any such thing. Furthermore, Iran's military is small and insufficient for that which is designed: DEFENSE. It is not an offensive miliary. - Reply to this comment
- If the Ex-Mossad chief really believes that Iran is "rational," he would NOT have Israeli undercover agents assassinating nuclear scientist inside Iran! The fact is Meir Dagan knows that Israel does not have the military ability to damage the deep underground nuclear facilities. He is, therefore, against Israeli airstrikes in Iran because they will show the Israeli military impotence. And that will be the SECOND "pie-in-the face" military fiasco for Israel, after the vain 68-days Israeli bombing of Lebanon, and the destruction of its invading army inside Lebanon by Hezbollah in 2006!
Israel was considered a superpower in Middle East after the destruction of the Arab armies in the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. Egypt's Anwar Sadat dented that reputation when his forces busted the "Bar Lev Line," the Israeli Maginot fortification in the Sinai in the 1973 "Yom Kippur War." Since then, the Israeli superpower status in Middle East has diminished. And what Mr. Dagan is afraid of, as his CBS interviewer Lesley Stahl reported yesterday, is "fear of the Iranian retaliation" -if Israel dares to attack Iran. (CBS Evening News, March 8, 2012)
No, Mr. Dagan doesn't believe Iran is "rational." He sees an Israeli attack as "irrational," given Iran's vast retaliatory missile response! Mr. Dagan's warning to Mr. Netanyahu, therefore, is: "Be careful what you wish. You might get it! Nikos Retsos, retired professor - Reply to this comment
