Another thing - what is this "service of atonement for the VICTIMS" all about??!!? The VICTIMS of these pedophiles have nothing to atone for!

Honestly, your precious Catholic Church has corrupted the entire congregation and community if they are allowed to get off the hook by performing "holy" ceremonies and other kinds of posturing. The church is corrupt from top to bottom and must be held accountable for its sins against the public. And the only appropriate atonement for the pedophiles and those who aided and abetted them is PRISON! It's a matter of little dispute that pedophiles are generally unfixable. Regardless of the length of their sentences, these sex offenders will have to register with the authorities upon release and must never again be allowed anywhere near children!!

I applaud the Archbishop of Dublin's work to reform the pedophilia issues in his diocese - this man truly sees the truth of what has happened to our Church! By looking the other way, the Church has caused more Catholics to turn away than it has to sign up new members! This man's actions is only the capstone of what should happen globally to the Church - and maybe then, might it re-engage many of its former members!

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin must feel very much alone among his peers and the rest of the church hierarchy, much like a child feels very much alone, who has been sexually abused by a clergy.

Martin is very brave to speak the truth, as are the thousands of victims.

When victims, witnesses, whistleblowers, priests, nuns, religious brothers, bishops, cardinals and the pope stay silent, nothing changes. But when they find the courage to take action, there's at least a chance for healing, justice, and protecting children.

(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world's oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims.
SNAP was founded in 1988 and has more than 12,000 members. Despite the word "priest" in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers and increasingly, victims who were assaulted in a wide range of institutional settings like summer camps, athletic programs, Boy Scouts, etc. Our website is SNAPnetwork.org)

The Catholic Church is moving forward on this, this outspoken Arch Bishop is one of many that will purge the Church of those who prey on the children.

RCC_Soldaten and servorum scare me. And to think there are LOTS more like them out there. Do they really want to turn the present back to their beloved 14th century? Their church is an anachronism, and I can only hope I live long enough to see it disappear.

"The children must come first, their families must come second and the sanctity of the Church must come third, even though all three must occur at the same time for this to be successful."

"In so many ways God is purifying His one, beloved Catholic Church"

I was raised catholic, unfortunately, and this is the kind of double-speak babble that disgusted me and turned me away from all religion. The catholic church is gods beloved church? All the rest of the churches in the world are nothing in your gods eyes? How arrogant! How absurd! How can anyone listen to and believe in this kind of talk?

I'm glad to hear about this guy. My wife and I are Southern Baptists, but my wife believes that born-again Christians can exist within virtually any Christian denomination (to greater or lesser degrees), including Catholicism. Maybe this man is a born-again Christian within the Catholic church. Satan's going to fight him hard, though, but may God stand with him.

The priests all covered for one another in hiding the abuse, and each advocated the abuse be it sexual, mental, or physical. I don't know how the catholic church has continued to exist in modern times. Any other organization, business, or cult religion (Waco wasn't this bad) would have already been dismantled and the predators and perpetrators put in prison. This is completely and utterly outrageous and unacceptable, and they've barely scraped the surface of these crimes against children. WHY??? does the catholic church continue to stay in business?
