I should have been sitting in your small, select group of long term unemployed, because that has been my life since 2008. I have run out of unemployment benefits, and due to tax returns, have another 6 weeks in which I can afford to live in my apartment. My house was foreclosed in 2009 and have moved to a different state believing that I may find employment in mid-America. My children believe I like not working and don't call because they are afraid I may ask
them for help. I am college educated and worked in a field for 30
years before being laid off. All I'm asking for is $10.00 an hour, which only pays my basic needs, and still can't find a full time job with benefits. Anyone who says this situation doesn't exist, obviously has not had to live through it. It's real!!!

I think government does not do anything about this insulting LIES, AND WILL NOT DO ABOUT IT because this HELPS government looks good.

I also would like to add that The lawmakesr, Senaters, Government got "DONATIONS" CEOs of big American companies in return to change/bend the laws so that the CEOs could lay off millions of Americans worker in America and then ire them in India and other countries.

THE CONDITIONS OF UNEMPLOYED AMERICAN WILL NEVER IMPROVE AND WILL ALWAYS GO DOWN SEVERELY UNTILL THE GOVERNMENT CEO STOP THE OUTSOURCING.

Bless you for airing this segment. It's a beginning step and solution to the shameful horror of ignoring those workers who are older, talented, and have been shunted aside.

Good people whose lives have been shattered. My husband was laid off in 2009 due to company economic concerns. He spent hundreds of hours looking for a job. Being 55, nothing happened for 10 months.

We finally looked at our talents and tried an out of the box approach. We changed careers and found employment in the private service industry, and are caretakers on a private ranch. We sold most of what we owned, moved across the country, lost our home in a short sale, and reformed out lives.

No- we don't make what we did before. Yes- our lives are very different. No- we have no retirement; we spent it all trying to survive.

But we have each other, and a new career. We appreciate each day, and definitely appreciate the reduced stress in our lives.

Thank you for bringing the carnage of the 'Great Recession' to the light of day. It's shocking that so little has been done to date.

I have been self employed and I have also been an employee. Yes, millions of individuals were disconnected from their jobs, there culture, and society. Cheaper people, younger people, companies scaling back, economic downturn and collapse, whatever the reason. I lost my company to these events, can't start a business, can't get a job. It's like hitting every red light goiing through a city. Yes, people can and will turn their backs at the end of the day on those less fortunate, their is no one who can be blamed, no organization responsible, no political entity that takes responsibility. But, the truth is, our government, our businesses, our society never planned for this event. We really live in a world of the haves (the working) and the have nots (the unemployed), and it will take a lot of effort and work to change this. I only hope I live long enough to see this era pass and survive it. This is a good start, this guy is doing seomthing, whether it works on a larger scale is another question entirely.

Bless Joe Carbone! Despite all of the naysayers, skeptics, and ideologues who have commented here, the fact that he has acted on his conviction and probably saved these people's lives.

I watched the report on the long term unemployed, I thought it was a great piece of reporting, it confirmed what the Secretary of Labor reported recently. I am a former employee of the U.S.Commerce Department and a Certified Workforce Development Professional, with The National Association of Workforce Development Professionals. In addition to having a long history of working with U.S. Department of Labor programs,Comprehensive Employment Training Act,Job Training Partnership Act and most recent Workforce Investment Act. I feel that my experience in Workforce programs has hampered my efforts in obtaining meaningful employment in my area. I have a history of Grant writing and have a concept for a Fifty an over program in my area is there contact information for Mr. Carbone and his project.

I am as outraged as Joe Carbone and I don't understand why more Americans are not taking to the streets. The problem we face comes on so many fronts, from corrupt politicians, campaign finance reform, voter apathy, to a Supreme Court ruling that "corporations are people" which I see as a "slap-in-the-face" to the intelligence of every American. Every American should be asking themselves, are corporations here to serve and benefit us or are we here to serve and benefit corporations? How can something, and I emphasize the word "something" that isn't born, doesn't breath, has no hand to shake and doesn't die, be a person?

There is a movement that has started nation wide, to overturn the Supreme Court "Citizens United" ruling. It starts with 50 cities across the country getting the overturn on the ballot and put to a vote. Then the people can put to shame this outlandish notion that "corporations are people."

And let's all take some individual responsibility for allowing it to get this far. If you are outraged, than take it out on all incumbents, regardless of party affiliation, and vote them out. Let's give our political process what it needs to start over, a complete blood transfusion.

It is a very sad state this country is in since Obama and his crew took over the reins of our government. It is worse than the 1930's and the hope and change he promised is a big fat lie. His promise of cutting the spending, transparency, jobs, and more BS has many Americans wondering if they will be in the street without a home and living under a bridge. There should be a massive march to the White House and also to Capital Hill where the idiots in the Senate continue do nothing but put Americans further in debt and living on food stamps. They saw the housing crisis coming and did nothing about Fannie and Freddie, they continued to stop the development of our energy resources and instead spend billions on their stupid green energy BS. Obama continues to ignore the constitution and feel he is above it and has the utmost arrogance to continue to spend, spend and spend us into oblivion. Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the rest of these losers must be defeated. If they get re-elected, you might as well move to Yemen because you will be better off.
