- I don't usually write, but...I worked in mortgage banking in the closing and legal department in the 80's and 90's and what was discussed was common knowledge. Loans were underwritten, approved and sold that had no business being approved to begin with. From the loan officer to the VP's and up not only knew what was going on they all condoned it. For these Gentlemen to state they had no idea is on outright lie. There were many a time pressure was put on departments to meet quota's for the month end and quarters. It was and will always be accepted business practice because no one is held accountable.

- Please tell me as a Countrywide customer (and then Bank of America) where I turn when I was given a loan I could not afford, and even a re finance during the mortgage "hike". I do not know who to trust or where to turn even now.

- Absolutely horrifying. The Nancy Pelosi comment is so disheartening. Gluttonous greed and fraud with ABSOLUTELY NO REGARD for the consequences and then OUR OWN JUSTICE DEPT. does nothing just reenforces the fact that money and violence rule the world and common people get continually screwed. But perhaps the pigs days are numbered. People can only take so much. History proves that and so does the recent middle east uprising.
And, the SEC's ability to police itself would be a joke if it weren't another example of us getting screwed. - Reply to this comment
- This Breuer guy is hiding something. It is a cut and dry situation. His skirting the issue just goes to prove that the DOJ is protecting the industry because there is a financial interest coming back at the DOJ - or to him personally.

- Steve Kroft is my hero. This is what journalism is all about. We need more public attention on our government's misbehavior so we can force them to do their job properly.

- Why the beads of sweat? Steve put him in a tight spot! That man in the Justice Dept. has been bought off just like the rest of them. All of these Big Wall Street banks - not only were they deemed "too big to fail" - they were given a FREE GET OUT OF JAIL pass from the highest level of our own government! They are all a bunch of greedy crooks!

Clean sweep time in DC. Tweet it now! - Reply to this comment
- I think this all goes to show that the rich and corporations are above the law; even when people blow the whistle it's the whistle-blower who suffers. This is what angers many in the occupy movement.
Even after this 60 minutes report I sincerely doubt anyone will be held accountable.
Why?
Because we live in a plutocracy (rule by the wealthy).
The lack of ethics, morality, and the legal consequences of bad behavior and not al Qaeda is the greatest threat to our nation. - Reply to this comment
- As an attorney, my husband represents HUNDREDS of clients every day that have lost their homes and are a direct casualty to this fraud. As a paralegal, I work closely with every client. The fraud is astounding and reprehensible...yet day after day big bank wins. It's sickening.

- This report was incredible........please keep up the drum beat on this.
That interview with the fellow from the Justice Department was like a SNL skit.....looked like Steve hit that guy's face with spray bottle. Unbelievable.
Really....reminds me of that Martin Short / Robert Kennedy routine with "Nathan Thurm"
