- I watched the 60 Minutes on Nov, 1, 2009 about the H1N1 and I'm wondering as a health care worker myself, did anyone else notice that the people giving this vaccine were not wearing gloves. No gloves with the nasal spray or the injections. Safety first, the gloves are for your protection as well as the person your injecting.

- The interesting part in your story was the fact that the manufacturing process for vaccines has not changed in fifty years, when, actually, scientists have developed fabulous technology that enables the vaccine to be developed in a matter of a few weeks. Not only that, shots using newer technology, do not contain dangerous toxins. The story was on ABC News last Wednesday night. A better story would have been to find out why the government didn't drop the big pharmaceuticals that use antiquated methods and lean towards the companies that are able to make safe vaccines faster.

- 11. because we understand that the components of the vaccine aren't around months and years after the injection. and we understand what the components can do to the body. we have studied and researched these effects. for the record, i have received all of my vaccinations on schedule since birth and have received a boat load more since entering my field, as i am in the presence of many other infectious agents. i am fine.
12. the amish have a lower, though present, rate of autism due to inbreeding within the community. as for homefirst, i've only read that they don't vaccinate, but to assume that the only thing unique among this cohort is lack of vaccination is a logical fallacy. i also don't know if all of the children in this cohort are autism free.
13. once again, correlation vs. causation. the number of things that have increased in the environment of the newborn have skyrocketed. chemicals in the environment of newborns are now much higher than 30 years ago. also, some one 30-40 years ago would be classified as retarded than autistic. not one of these situations accounts, but the cumulative effect can.
14. the vaccines have been made the same way for decades with little to no side effects compared to the total number of people vaccinated. the "big pharma" as they are reffered to , don't turn massive profits from vaccinations, given the costs. the nih does not make nor fund the making of vaccines. the cdc calls for the making of specific vaccine, but does not fund nor make vaccines. neither body has an interest in "big pharma" raking it in.
15. these questions are easily asked and answered by a scientist with expertise (yet no funding bias) of the situation. perhaps the "journalists" (your quotes, not mine) already did this basic level of journalism and found it not relevant to their story.
reading jenny mccarthy's web page and listening to non-scientists spew lies about vaccines is not research. being at the bench day in and day out, studying, analyzing and restudying is research.

- for momagainstmercury. i have a phd from washington university in cell biology, focusing on immunology. i have never received any funding from "big pharma", or small pharma for that matter, not that it would change the findings of my research as i have scientific integrity and am not in it for money. my funding comes from the nih (money generally allocated by the federal government, but specifically allocated by other scientists through peer review of grants). i would be acknowledged as an expert in aspects of cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and genetics.
here are my answers to your questions that 60 minutes didn't ask that you feel they should.
1. the trans-nasal vaccine is mercury free. if you're worried, use it.
2. not to nitpik, but its material safety data sheet. and everyone involved in vaccine production has seen the msds for mercury. they also know the difference between ethyl-mercury and methyl-mercury and the degree of danger each one represents. and if all else fails, see point #1.
3. the h1n1 vaccine is made exactly the same way as all past flu vaccines, with the obvious exception of the innoculating agent being slightly different (at the dna level). so, though this vaccine has not been proven to be safe for fetuses, there is no scientific reason for it to be any worse than the other safe flu vaccines.
4. see point 3.
5. see point 1. and you should learn the difference between ppm and ppb in something consumed and shot and overall concentration in the body. some are safe and some are fine.
6. see point 2. and, the rider is to limit frivolous lawsuits that clog the courts when it has been studied repeatedly and not one REPUTABLE researcher has found even correlative association between thimerosol and neurodegenerative diseases like autism, let alone causative. (by the way correlative is a lot easier to find, but, generally, not scientifically sound).
7. squalene is a naturally occurring chemical found throughout the body at molar levels far exceeding what is found in the vaccine. also, it is a component of natural steroid synthesis. getting rid of it would be worse. also, no REPUTABLE scientist has found any correlation between squalene and GWS, let alone causation. (by the way correlative is a lot easier to find, but, generally, not scientifically sound).
8. none of them are REPUTABLE scientists. and, for the record, medical doctors are not scientists unless they hold a phd. they dont understant the process and dont do the real research. mercola is a fraud who many of my md friends would not let treat them if he was the last md on earth. (they think his license should be pulled).
9. no one has recovered from autism. if they are "normal" or "recovered" now, they were improperly diagnosed (insert jenny mccarthy crap here). aluminum is a chemical that occurs naturally in the body and is necessary for many cellular functions. also, as an adjuvant, it requires that much less innoculant is injected.
10. peolple who die after receiving a vaccine injection do not necessarily die from the vaccine itself. the numbers are small compared to the number injected. it could be rare genetic predispositions to reaction which can't, as of yet, be screened for, or something else. to immediately claim "post hoc ergo propter hoc" is a scientific, medical, and logical fallacy. - Reply to this comment

- I am a bit offended when I am told that I am "ignorant if I do not receive the H1N1 vaccine." I was told by TWO doctors that it is not necessary, and there are MORE risks to taking it than not.
I have Sjourgens, as well as several other health issues, like scarring in my right lower lung. I always wheeze and cannot get rid of the fluid that builds there. I would rather listen to my doctors than be pressured by the "media" telling me that "you'll be sorry if you don't b/c there will be a lot more dead people."
Does the truth really exist in the media during issues like pandemics? Does anyone know, for real the actual truth if this vaccine will really prevent your death if you contact the H1N1 virus? Or, will the vaccine kill you b/c it is not really understood?
I received the "regular" flu vaccine that has been given for years. But, this is the second time I have gotten it. Both times I received it, I got a really bad sore throat, right ear pain for days, and joints that ached for about a week. Then I hear, "well, if you didn't get it, you'd be far worse off." The other 7 years I didn't get it, I didn't get the flu or any flu like symptoms all winter. Can anyone explain this to me?

- Disappointing story. It didn't really discuss whether the vaccine was safe. It really was about the shortage. I would have liked a discussion of the tough questions regarding the ingredients, such as mercury. And if Thimersol isn't harmful, then why make a version without it? Just as an example. 60 Minutes, you can do better.

- So, in your story, you never asked (or maybe I missed it) if the MERCURY in these flu vaccines is alright? Even though the FDA says there IS no 'safe' level of Mercury in the human body! So which is it? Who is lying about the safety of Mercury? The doctors? The Drug companies? The FDA? THAT is the story that SHOULD have been done! Come on, who DO we 'trust' if YOU won't even ASK a NON-BIASED question?

- I would like to know exactly what the diagnoses of the teenage boy are. It is rare that the flu lands someone on a ventilator. It is usually the secondary bacterial infection which causes most of the problem. The flu causes bacterial pneumonia and kills people every year. Why are we suddenly all hyped up about it? The only difference is young people have no immunity and have a tendancy to die more than older people. We should be taking precautions every year when out in public to stop the spread of the flu like they are teaching this year. This is all hype, I believe one of the deals made with big pharma was the government pushing the flu vaccine for them. Why is this fly growing so slowly in the eggs? We know large numbers of people who have been told they had H1N1 did not actually have it. Could it be it grows slowly in people also?

- I hope everyone takes this H1N1 vaccination serious. This isn't an illness that happens to other people or something you see on the news. My best friend is hanging on for dear life from H1N1. They have had to resusicate her 3 times now, once just because they put a feeding tube in her. I feel this is worse than AIDs, it is spreading faster and taking lifes fast. THis is only going to get worse before it gets better.
