etlewis69, I can hear you saying the very same thing when bullets came along and allowed an American soldier to remain safe from 100+ meters instead of having to use a knife or sword to battle his enemy face-to-face. In fact, I'd love to see how much "conviction and fortitude" you would display simply while under sniper or automatic weapons fire, more less while pulling a trigger to take a life--or knifing your enemy as you looked directly into their eyes. (Another armchair soldier judging from a safe home thousands of miles away from any combat)

Who are the Taliban anyway? Did they attack uson 9-11, I thought they were all Saudi Nationals trained to fly airplanes in the United States. Are all Taliban terrorist or are they just trying to defend their ancestral homeland. This piece on drones was more advertisement then news. Shame on you 60 minutes for not getting other opinions on the use of drones and believe me they are out there. I can't believe that these tribal people living on the otherside of the world pose a threat to us. I will say it again 9-11 was the work of 11 Saudi Nationals trained in the USA.

farmerbb, why don't you ask those loyal American soldiers on the ground if they have a problem with the cost of that Hellfire which probably saved several of their lives and kept their families from grieving? Would you be asking how much it cost if you were one of those troops? (Oops, forgot you're an armchair kind of guy. Guess I also forgot to put myself in your shoes...oops again, I mean armchair...before I asked those questions. Sorry about that.)

The drones would be perfect to secure our borders. The reaper and predator aircraft sitting up there in the sky along our southern frontier - day and night- sending high quality pictures to border patrol analysts sitting in air-conditioned offices. Then merely send out a team to apprehend and return the illegal aliens.
This is way to create a virtual border fence! Why waster this great technology in Afghanistan, when it is desperately needed here.

I have no problem using these drones for surveillance, but using them for warfare is another story.
It takes a certain amount of conviction and fortitude for a man to kill another man in battle. These drones make it far too easy to kill without thinking about it. I've often thought that it was too easy for pilots and warships to kill from miles away; this takes to a whole new level. This is like a high tech video game. Killing should not be easy or taken lightly.

I wonder how that smug sonuvabitch would feel if he returned home and discovered that someone in Afghanistan had pushed a button and splattered his wife and kids all over the walls of his home. There's no disputing that the drones have killed innocent civilians. The only question is how many.

These people were desperately poor and led hard lives. It's disturbing that some unseen enemy can destroy what lives they had with the push of a button-- and not an occasion for gloating. This new weapon is an illustration of the horrors of modern warfare.

What's more, it was Logan's obligation to confront him about that forcefully. Yet she let him off with saying that it was a "hard question" as to whether such deaths had occurred. She's done this on other occasions. I feel that that unwillingness to confront the interviewee abdicates her responsibilities as a journalist.

Wow. They used a Hellfire missile to take out a single sniper ? Just how expensive are those things anyway ? If the aerial vehicle could see where he was, surely a simple, inexpensive mortar and a couple of rounds would have done the trick ? Sounds like the military-industrial complex at work. Second....if these things can stay aloft for so many hours, what are they doing about the planting of roadside bombs ? Some Afghan roads seem to be regular targets for these, yet we don't hear much about IED teams being taken out as they attempted to plant a device. And can they not scroll back through the tape, to see where the IED team came from ? From what I read, I don't get the sense these un-manned vehicles are being used to their best advantage.
