60 Minutes: Saudi Government Tries To Rehabilitate Former Guantanamo Prisoners, Jihadists

- Hey David Martin,
Great job completely glossing over the fact that the inhumane detention and torture of Gitmo's detainees both in Afghanistan and in Cuba could somehow have attributed to any recidivism that we see from those released from our custody. My guess is that if you were kidnapped, sold to a foreign government, tortured and humiliated for 4 years without any hope of being freed, we could probably make the case that you are too dangerous to release too.
We need to find ways to rehabilitate these detainees and apologize to them in a meaningful way, especially for those who we have no reason to suspect are or have ever been members of Al Queda (and there are certainly a number of documented cases like the Tipton 3). Shame on your for your close minded reporting on this subject and your gloss over attempts on the issue of torture. I typically expect more from CBS and 60 Minutes.

- your report smacked with American arrogance, again telling the world we are the best and we know best. How Bush era of you. Topped off by telling the Saudis that only a perfect record is acceptable. When have we done anything near perfect. The huge mess we made in Iraq, a perfect mess maybe.

- As we watched this report my husband and I had the feeling we were being sold a load of crap. This whole thing was so staged. Somehow I don't feel more safe now that I know these jihadists have all been "rehabed'. Perhaps the former residents of Gitmo should be released in the 60 Minutes studio.

- We need a "reprogramming school" for American politicians (on both sides of the aisle) so they can figure out how our arrogant, belligerent foreign policy breeds this kind of extremism. Obviously nothing can justify terrorism, but our constant intervention in that part of the world gives people over there a legitimate reason to despise the United States.

That's pure and utter horse$hit - you talk US extremism?? AQ attacked us, and they don't only 'despise' the US...they despise every country that does not agree with their religeous belief that if you're not willing to 'lay your life down for Allah' to make extreme muslim the practiced religeon over the globe, in the form of any fool they can muster, including/especially women and children, then you shall pay the consequence by death - you don't see bin laden out there with a bomb strapped to himself to 'prove his love to Allah' - he's a puppeteer to the masses trying to get his own selfish way and has no regard for his people what-so-ever. if this guy is the real deal, hats off to him for thwarting terrorism or making the attempt.
bin laden is exactly like charles manson - "it's for our cause...but i'm not gonna do anything 'dangerous' or any of the 'dirty work'...i'll let the foot soilders handle that, cause i'm too 'valuable' to the cause'...POS

Actually, the post you quote did NOT mention "US extremism". It said that our foreign policy in some circumstances "breeds extremism" (that is, it breeds extremism by people like the guy in the article).
I agree with your post in EVERY other respect, but the original poster made a bit of a valid point. Apparently, they (Al Qaeda) had a particular beef with the US having Air Bases in Saudi Arabia (However, since 2003, I believe that most if not all bases have been moved or put under Saudi control).
While by NO means do I accept that as an excuse for what they did, I DO wonder how Americans would feel if the reverse had been true and the Saudis had Air Bases on US soil? - Reply to this comment
- I noticed how this article barely mentioned the hard approach at the bottom. Im sure that the Saudi approach is rather simple shape up live a proper muslim life of peace or we will hang you.
