The execution of mass murderers and the execution of two men for being gay are NOT morally equivalent. And this is an example of the difference between the right and the left in this country. The left have their heads so far up their colons that they can not see the difference.

Most of you are getting so emotional and that is the main problem of conflicts. The truth is obscured and your fair judgement is blinded. We also killed children in this country-the difference is that Iran may have executed some for committing a "heinous" crime, and in US, the "free" people take the matter in their hands and shoot their own children-Now that is unheard of in Iran. The bottomline, do not be a morsal police of the world when you yourself are totally the least of humans in this world-time to believe it!

Pax!

They were not executed because of being gay but because they had raped a child

tilly2:

To compare the hanging of Saddam, who murdered and gassed hundreds of thousands of people to death with the hanging of two gay teenage boys is a monstrosity in itself! Do you people even have an ounce of reason? Don't you see, the two teenagers were hung for simply being gay, where as Saddam was hung for killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people? One is just dessert, dished out by a newly freed people, the other is a crime against humanity. Are you that dillusional (with anti-americanism) that yon't you see the difference?

Jeez......

While the horrors of seeing those three men hung, along with those two boys had an impact on 60 minute?s story, l find the show somewhat hypocritical. When we Americans hung Saddam Hussein and killed his two boys, we were told to applaud. I know many say that it was the Iraqis that hung Saddam, but my point is that we have no problem with executions, as long as they fit our purpose. This is not a critic on the death penalty. Rather, it is a critic on the media. If you are going to use executions to demonstrate just how cruel the Iranian government is, make sure you are pointing that same finger at our own. Maybe you can show an American being strapped into the electric chair.

hotrokh...

What leftist toilet did you crawl out of? Some of you people don't know a hill of beans about Iran, its present regime and its previous one. To compare these mullah monsters with the Shah is ludicrous and laughable if it wasn't so sad, period.

In all of his rule, some 37 years, less than 3,500 people were killed during the Shah's regime, mostly fighting in wars and execution of traitors like communists and the Mujahedin. These mullah monsters killed 20,000 political prisoners JUST in the summer of 1988 alone!

DO YOU HEAR ME YOU LEFTIST LOONS???

These 20,000 plus prisoners were given 3-to-4 minute sham trials and then exectuted! Even the Shah's detractors like Marvin Zonis have said this MANY times since 1979 that the Shah was a saint compared to these Islamic butchers. So you can shove your Mossad and CIA and Savak nonsense where the leftist sun don't shine -- stop spreading misinformation, the Islamic revolution succeeded! You got your dream of an Islamic republic, you kicked out the US, so how great did it turn out for the people of Iran??? That's my concern, not any of your leftist propaganda!

Go read the book by the New York Times reporter, Elaine Sciolino, where former prisoners of the Shah's regime who ended up in the mullah's prisons describe the Shah's prison as "Heavan" compared to the present barbarity. But then again, leftist loons like yourself have nothing against Iran, it's your blind hatred of US "imperialism" and Israel that makes you jump into bed with monsters liket the mullahs in Iran just because they happen to hate America as much as you do!

well well well

I read many poor excuses and reasons why what s really going on in Iran it is not a big deal. If this was all the inhumane torture and injustice happening there...well, then it should not have made the news.
BUT, the reality of the situation is that because of regimens such as Khomeini and Ahjamajenacrazy...the CIA, Mossad, Intel etc have to train people, spies and go into these horrible operations in order to combat the evil satanic complex of domination that iranians and such do in this world.

This story is really horrific. However, it loses some credibilty because it was never explained how Batebi obtained a cell phone camera. He was supposed to be in prison and being transferred to a court just before the escape.

If you were really paying attention...maybe for you it was lost in translation,
but acquired the cell phone when he escaped and documented the escape not the imprisonment....helped by kurdish.

I would presume if the EU and the Hague War Crimes Tribunal were to TRY members of the former Bush Administration for Renditions, Kidnappings and torture, this would raise our status in the world that even the US citizens will NOT TOLERATE a criminal President for aggressive war and mistreatment of civilians, denying POW status or even proper due process.....there would be LESS repression in the world since dictators could not expect anything less than capture and trial for their crimes against humanity...

Bush and company need to face up to their responsibility for these crimes.

I wonder why 60 minutes is not interested in political prisoners at other places like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Pakistan, Turkey.

This guy looks perfectly healthy and a bit over weight too (even during his scape). Have you seen those kids living in Gaza?

I wonder why nobody has yet mentioned the fact that the (CIA trained and US equipped) Shah of Iran used tactics of torture that made getting your testicles flogged seem like a harmless fetish. Again the CIA trained "savak" secret police (like the CIA trained Mossad Israeli secret police) torture(d) by pulling fingernails off with pliers, raping daughters/wives in front of their families and using hooks to take out eyes and testes..
Not only did the US condone it, they financed and trained too...same with the zionist police..so thanks America! We learned it from you!
PS..when the Serbs were placing bets on what a pregnant Bosnian woman was carrying then cutting her stomach open to see who "won", when they were putting babies in the oven in front of their mothers...where was the US outrage then?? Where was our duty to the world that we falsley think we have?? Why did Clinton wait so many years to act?? Oh yeah...there was no oil to steal, and no natural resources to milk!!

mwhc1, there is also a place called Israel that dumps thousands of cluster bombs on Lebanon still killing and dismembering innocent people. Let's face it, we are all the same ... influenced by ideas, anger, and religion; capable of committing the most horrific acts and also capable of as much compassion.
.... Imagine a world without such rigid ideologies and resided by free thinking individuals...

Bush is gone.
The nightmare is over.
Time to look forward.
Stop being obsessed with the past.
Not every story revolves around Bush.
Put away the Bush voodoo doll. (It has to be a shredded piece fabric by now)
You can return to reasoned, rational thinking now.

Seeing the piece on 60 Minutes yesterday made me wonder that if the former-Great Emperor George Bush II had been given a 3rd term, or totally trashed the Constitution and declared himself Great Emperor for life, or even if John McBush McCain had won the election, that our country would have turned into a "Christian" Iran!!!!

That is, "Christian" according to the right-wing, wacko, fundamentalist "Christian" sects out there!

Certainly not "Christian" acording to what Jesus preached in the Bible. Concepts such as love your neighbor, blessed are the peacemakers, the meek shall inherit the earth, if someone strikes you on the cheek, turn the other cheek to him also, and THOSE WHO LIVE BY THE SWORD SHALL DIE BY THE SWORD!

Extremist Christian concepts 2,000 years ago, and just as "extremist" in the neocon Facist Nazi Republican world today!!!

HAIL OBAMA!!!

In all reality, trying to compare waterboarding with having your nuts beat with a cable?
Any man (and I'm talking men) would gratefully endure a 50 waterboarding sessions than one session of ball beatings. Any man that disagrees should do a quick check to be sure that they have a pair themselves.

guyfrompa50

Huh?

"these scum"?

So you're absolutely sure that the anonymous global citizens that Bush and Obama have indefinitely incarcerated in secret prisons without charge or representation, where they are subject to institutionalized torture and murder, are guilty of something?

My goodness.

We don't even know most of their names. We have no idea where they were abducted from. They haven't even been charged, so they certainly have no opportunity of proving they're not guilty of crimes they're not even accused of.

That's what Iran, China, and Russia do.

And it enables them to get rid of any innocent citizen, throughout the world, that they wish.

Simply because some politician doesn't like them personally, or doesn't like them exposing government misconduct, or has a financial motive or .... on and on and on.

That's why our founding fathers implemented our Constitutional rule of law, which the Democrats and Republicans have so gleefully abandoned; so these types of government atrocities could not exist in America.
