Kenyan Cattle Herders Are Using The American Pesticide Furadan To Kill The Predators

- There is no need for the government to get involved banning Furadan.
FMC can prove that they care in a very simple manner - since according to the package label shown on TV Furadan is mostly inert filler, they can simply change the formulation in such a way that the inert material is something totally unpalatable to lions and other mammals. This would render the product useless as anything other than an insecticide.
If they do that, they've solved the problem.
Of course, if they are unwilling to do something as simple as this (which they should do to protect humans as well), then it will be obvious that they are complicit here.
I wonder how much such a change would affect sales? - Reply to this comment
- I'm an independent, not a "righty" and definitely not a "lefty" (LOL) and it isn't "just the lefties" who believe some regulation is in order here. Toxic substances that are knowingly being distributed with the result of wide spread use in the killing of wildlife, should be regulated, and used very very sparingly. FMC is blithely looking the other way while their product is coming into common use in poisoning animals, because they are more interested in making money than they are interested in acting ethically and humanely.
By the way, if this stuff kills wildlife, what do you think it does to the people who eat traces of it on their food as a result of it being used as a pesticide? Poison is poison. - Reply to this comment
- As horrible as the practice of using Furadan is, I suspect that, similar to other prohibitions, this one will fail. It needs to be worked out how the people of Africa can coexist with the Lions to their mutual benefit or they'll be doomed.

- It's always the same story. Humans encroach on some predatory animal's territory. Naturally the animal instinctively kills and eats some of the human's livestock.
Humans believe that they have a greater "Right to Life" than Lions, Tigers, Bears, Wolves, Sharks, and countless other animals. This belief is often rooted in religion, particularly christians and muslims think that human life is more precious than animal life so they feel justified in killing animals.
It seems that some people won't be satisfied until we've killed off all possible "competition" on this earth. - Reply to this comment
- Kenya - Maybe I missed something - but you never seemed to mention the fact that FMC is a company here in the US. It is unacceptable that they continue to produce this product and sell it to neighboring African countries. Shame on CBS for not focusing more on this company! You only presented a snippet of the issue/problem. Why? How can we as consumers, US citizens, and human beings, try to solve/understand issues like these if not all the information is presented.

- Why not require the manufacturer of Furadan to put a distasteful smell and taste in it so as to turn the lions and other animals away?
Don't tell me it can't be done!!! - Reply to this comment
- Hungry?
You are not being very honest.
I have just posted several videos, one even from CBS, showing Obama and Odinga together.
Go to YouTube, type in "Odinga Obama"
There are several.
Have fun.

You apparently didn't watch any of them.
Please tell me what they're supposed to prove.
Obama went to Kenya. Big deal.
Since when is that a crime? - Reply to this comment

- Pictures say a thousand words.
Here are several videos of Odinga and Obama together:

The above is from CBS news, obviously favorable to Obama but also supporting my claim that Obama was "at Odinga's side" through much of the campaign.

Obama campaigns for Odinga in Kenya:

The above from Reuters, also rather friendly towards Obama, but supporting what I have told you: Obama supported Odinga!:

The above shows the Marxist tyrant Odinga, friend and "cousin" of Obama, for what he is.

You've got video of Obama being welcomed to Kenya by several dozen politicians, and you claim this is some sort of link to something nefarious, but you won't tell us what, why, who, when, etc, etc, etc.
I saw John McCain and him shake hands and talk to each other in October. Does that mean that Obama is now a republican?
No - I think it means you're a racist idiot. - Reply to this comment
- We are spending billions and billions of dollars trying to find bacteria or anything with life in other celestial bodies. However, we let a magnificent animal species, like lions, to gradually decrease in numbers to the point of extinction. There is no question that many humans are a lot more dangerous than those African wild creatures.
