- I think it''s great that CBS is interviewing the crew and flight attentendants of the US Airways flight. However, what about the flight attendants on Continental Flight 1404 which crashed in Denver in December? Those attendants were truly heroic, getting 110 passengers off a burning plane. The right side of the aircraft was on fire and the passengers could only escape on the left side, arguably a more difficult and life threatening situation than the US Airways flight. Why aren''t they getting any recognition?

- All I can say is I hope he''s my pilot the next time I fly. When you look at what it took to avoid the loss of lives - and how quickly he and his crew thought through the problem as well as the solution, he''s a hero in my book. And the whole thing is an absolute miracle!

- Yes there have been similar incidents but this is the discussion of the moment.
What Capt. Sullenberger and the Co-pilot and crew did was part of their job.
BUT................ this is still the miracle of Winter 2009!
Capt Sulley seems to be a man obsessed with flying and safety and even got himself into gliding. I believe it is this ability he has that took what could have been a full nights search in freezing water for humans into a ''MIRACLE"
I have viewed the various cam shots of the plane coming down and it is as if it were a water fowl that landed so smooth!
These men took off on a routine flight and both engines hit and lost and they had seconds to function. Capt. Sulley just did a fantastic job turning, going over a bridge and landing in the river. All saved as well as what could have been in the City on both sides. All got out fast. N.Y. & N.J. folks jumped into action and all I can say is it seemed more like a Hollywood good ending movie then reality. They made it happen so well.
He deserves all the credit there is to give as well as the entire crew.
I contacted U.S. Airways twice asking what kind of aknowledgement they plan to give this crew. As usual.NO REPLY! They need to aknowledge these people.
Will be tuned into to hear your segment of the show and glad your having them on.
Sincerely,
A pilots Mom - Reply to this comment
- While Capt. Sullenberger and his crew deserve high praise, this is not the first time this type of ditch has happened. Over Fifty years ago, Capt. Richard Ogg made a successful ditch in the Pacific saving the lives of all onboard his Pan Am flight from Honolulu to San Francisco. Please see these articles for further details.
