- I blame the Bush administration and those who were dumb enough to vote for them. The same idiots who voted for McCain.
You get what you vote for. Live with it. - Reply to this comment
- To Mr. Beaudine3. I have 4 family members who have lost their jobs in Wilmington due to the DHL fiasco. None of them are either fat or lazy. Have some compassion

- That''s what happens when a non-US company takes over an American company. When times get a bit rough these companies wouldn''t think twice to throw Americans out onto the street. Can you believe DHL is closing the entire Airborne company that they acquired a few years back out onto the street?
I think the Federal government needs to step in and put some restrictions on what these foreign companies can do before they just close up shop in the US.
Honda, Toyota, et. al. can they do the same? At least there are efforts to resolve the problems relating to the automobile Big 3, but what if the afore mentioned Japanese companies decide to close up shop will there be the same kind of effort put by them to make sure the towns, counties and states are not not badly affected? I hate to think what would happen to the people that work and live in and near these companies should Honda, Toyota, Nissan, VW, etc. decide to close their plants. That may not happen just yet, but do we wait until it happens before taking any actions?
Food for thoughts!!! - Reply to this comment
- We own a pack & shipping business, and of all our shipping vendors, we had more trouble with on time delivery, and lost packages with DHL than all the others put together; and now I see why - everyone that Scott interviewed was over weight, some just plain fat. No wonder, the people could not move fast enough to keep up.
60 Minutes ought to do a piece on the number of overweight people in that town.

It is an attitude like this that YOU should be ashamed of. Just because someone is overweight doesn''t mean they are fat and lazy. I suppose you think black people must be criminals and mexicans lazy. I hope your business fails. Shame on you. - Reply to this comment

- "I have little sympathy for Ohio, They elected Bush, twice. Moral of the story: Be careful of what you wish for."
Exactly. And the same people would blame Obama for a miracle. Bush has left America (and Obama) with a mess we may not get out of. If anyone can help us, it is ourselves. We need to help each other, realize we were overextended, lived beyond our means and will have to lose homes and "things" to learn what has real value...family, community and love.
We all need to start growing our own food, getting off the grid, reducing, eliminating, and helping our neighbors and community to do the same. We also need to bombard our Congresspeople AND Obama with calls, letters and emails on a regular basis. Whether you get a response or not, DO IT.
These people have homes, food and income for their needs. We don''t, so tell them to ACT NOW and ACT RESPONSIBLY for us. And EVERYONE needs to contact that idiot John Boehner who is now the biggest complainer of Obama''s actions, when he voted for everything Bush wanted with his eyes closed. Why is this man still in office?

As a democrat, I''m not angry with the republicans or Bush because I saw this train wreck coming that they caused. But I am angry with republicans who voted for them and now want to blame the democrats. Typical. - Reply to this comment
- There is so much negativity revolving around this report. Companies come and go and people lose their jobs. Unfortunately, we are seeing this happen a lot more in this country and will continue to see it. The government has got to do something about it. We never should have bailed out those banks--we should have bailed out ourselves. They could have saved that money for us because we would have done a lot more with it. If you are one of those without a job, relocation may be necessary. Just because we are Americans doesn''t mean we should expect everything to be easy. Keep your head held high no matter what. We are all brothers and sisters and we will help each other out. Network with your friends. Eat meals together. Stay strong. Join a church to help renew and enliven your faith and your hope. We all need to tighten our purse straps and save--hopefully, you''ve been doing that all along and have a little to fall back on. We still live in the greatest country on earth and we can''t just blame the government for what has happened to us because it is not all their fault. We are also to blame; we have all spent way too much.

- This is the CHANGE We Can Count On. NAFTA Agreement set the foundation to take your manufacturing jobs & others overseas. Thank Clinton & the Lobbyists for that. China paid the Clintons & Congress well for granting them Favorite Trade Status. So Sad as it takes so long to realize this after the PR.

Clinton adopted 100 years of GOP Laissez-faire economics. Try an explain away Clintons adoption of your economic dogma. - Reply to this comment
- The depression has reached Wilmington, and other areas of Ohio, which 60 mins. failed to mention. The mesiah will not be able to stop the crumbling of America. He and his hacks are only concerned about bailing out their friends and those who will keep them in power for years to come. With rising gas prices, we are sinking further into an abyss that has no bottom.

Wilmington is a solid Republican district that first went for the idiot savant that the GOP ran in the previous two elections and then for McCain this time around. The people of Wilmington should quit whining and wait for the trickle-down payoff to arrive, it should start happening any moment now. - Reply to this comment

Previous administrations were not judged for 100 days. 4 days in and we have those whose ideology is the reason we are in this Depression hoping for our president to fail.
The GOP loves their ideology more than this country. They would rather it burn from a fire they started, than participate in cooperation with others who do not share their views in trying to fix the problem. - Reply to this comment

- The Wilmington Air Park was the main hub of ABX/DHL. What the story did not tell was the other DHL employees who have lost their jobs. Each plane had a ground support crew that readied the plane for flight, each plane landed elsewhere in the US where service center employees unloaded the freight. Each service center had office workers, sorters and couriers who delivered the freight. Customers called the 1-800 number, those calls were answered by customer service agents. At one time there were 10 calls centers, all but 3 have been closed, with the remaining to close at the end of the week. Most of the customer service jobs were outsourced to a company in Omaha, its workers are stay-at-home employees who are paid by the minute, they make $5 or less per hour. In June of 2008, DHL stopped service to what was considered "remote" areas of the US. Those service centers were closed, the independent contracters (couriers) were out of business. Since then, numerous service centers have been closed. By the end of this week, over 90% of Airborne/DHL employees will have lost their jobs. The real number of unemployed will be closer to 45,000.

- While I can appreciate and empathize what is happening in Wilmington, I am also wondering why you haven''t come to Michigan. Unemployment is 10.6% now and has been the highest in the nation for at least the last three years.
Hundreds of thousands have lost jobs and can''t get another one, even with additional training and schooling. Many have also lost their homes.
I would think our economic tragedy would have been just as newsworthy as Wilmington''s. - Reply to this comment

My God Child have you lost your mind? LOL He removed restrictions on Money that Congress sends, IF it sends it. Go play with the other kids and leave the adults to talk. We have a mountain of problems left to this Fine Young Leader so your childish remarks are NOT what we need at this point. - Reply to this comment
- I want to commend 60 minutes for presenting two moving stories: The Winter of our Hardship and No Peace Deal. Both are symbolic of the lack of concern of many humans for their fellow beings. The suffering and oppression they create, is of no interest to them. I hope our new President will lay down the law to the corrupters and robbers in our country who steal the dreams and lives of others for their own gains. The honest covering of the miserable conditions of Palestinians in the West Bank
for which the United States can take credit for by aiding and abetting the Israeli fanatics, is a blot on both countries.
Your interviewers, Scott Pelley and Bob Simon did a masterful job in bringing us these terrible stories.
I was unable to get to sleep - the faces of the victims you showed in both stories haunted me. - Reply to this comment
