- This is a very sad story. A poacher should be hang and fed to the lions. Humans are violent and greety and we have a lot to learn from animals. 60 minutes should follow up with more stories like this one. Please also publish contact information on this orphanage, so people can send donations. This is a wonderful organization that should be helped. elephants are the most incredible beings, it hurts so much to see this happening, as well as with any animal abuse.
The world would be a much peaceful and wonderful place without us humans destroying our environment and killing and abusing animals. - Reply to this comment

- This story leaves me uplifted but disheartened. I appreciate your enlightenment. I only wish the poaching could be stopped. It is cruel and just another example of humans doing harm. If there were no humans, these animals could go on about their business.

- I too was saddened by the orphaned elephant report. All I could think during the entire broadcast was "If only the starving orphaned human children in that country and others had such luxurious treatment as these elephants...How many orphaned children starving for human touch would give anything to have cocunut oil rubbed on them like these elephants,..How many orphananed human children's lives could be changed if they had someone feeding them every three hours like these elephants and had one personal assistant assigned to them 24 hours a day like these elephants..." What a shame.

- I was very saddened by the report on elephant poaching. Is there any more information about what can be done about this terrible injustice to these animals?

- A wonderful story about wonderful beings both human & elephant. I came to this web site looking for ways to support the banning of elephant ivory. I was appalled to see links to web sites that sell ivory! We've got a long way to go.

- This is an incredible story. Thank you for re-running it. The key is to stop the demand for the ivory. The poachers are supplying people who are the offenders. We have to stop the demand by putting the people who buy away. They should be threatened with severe punishment - monetary fines or jail time - whatever they fear the most. The governments of the world that sanction this or sit by while their citizens participate in this trade should be punished too or embarrassed on the world stage and forced into enforcing laws that protect these animals.
