- Rely only on intelligence is stupid. Wasnt it the failure of intelligence that got us into the Iraq war? I dont mind the process that goes on when I fly. If we are going to start pointing fingers at security when we fly lets not stop at just one agency. What about Customs and border protection, what about immigration? I dont ever here Jack about those idiots. Ive been treated like garbage by customs before but do you think they care? Ive flown in from out of the country more than once and going through CBP''s procedure watched hundreds and maybe a thousand people walk right by those guys who werent even stopped or questioned. So if we are going to question the existance and scrutinize one agency then lets scrutinize them all.

- several items of concern -
1)if you were to be placed on a terrorist "no fly list" which one of the many unknown, unconfirmed lists would you be on?
2) for those NOT familiar with ATL airport, it rarely makes any difference to your pleasantness behavior, you most likely get the "tude" from TSA.
3) TSA supv''s (trml "e" area, custom''s area) and now those with badges have let the whole dog and pony show go to their head, quit the harassment.
4) Get names and ID''s of the TSA "less than professional_attitudes" and report their behavior to tsa.gov.
5) many other airports don''t show the attitude as do the personnel at ATL, if there is supposed to be this portrayal of a professional, why is it lacking in ATL and by all appearnaces from this forum, person(s) at Sea-TAC? - Reply to this comment

Believe me, if terrorists want to attack us, they will, there are a billion different ways. Just keep giving up our freedoms. Who is going to protect you from the people "ptotecting" you, you or them?

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

- Unless they can incapacitate an entire plane of passengers and crew, the 9/11 attacks will be the last passenger jet hyjacking. Everyone on board, from now on, will assume they are going to die anyway, and will fight for their life.

Ok, say you''re on a plane with a bunch of people who panic and don''t kill the hijackers? Don''t you think it''s worth some inconvienience (can''t spell, sorry) for your own safety? - Reply to this comment
- I love that line "since 9/11" the rightwing always uses like 9/11 didn''t happen on bush''s watch. But the TSA is still annoying joke. When you have an incompetent boss expect incompetent workers.

- I garuntee you would be the FIRST to say that not enough is being done should their plane get hijacked, or blown up. Hypocrasy is rampant.

- Rudy, people lik you laways play both sides of the fence, you want protection without any inconvenience. You asked how many deaths were caused by terorists because of the U.S. policy. Nobody could hope to answer that because it is typical lame speculation. If you think that question has an answer, then answer this one. How many lives were saved world wide because of the security systems put in place after 911 and the fact we actually started fighting the terroists pro-activley. Answer that one ingrate!

- I found Leslie Stahl''s use of the phrase "old ladies" to be offensive. I thought our (Leslie & my) generation would be the one to eliminate this demeaning and derogatory term, appartently I was wrong.

- So the answer is ZERO. Both of you seem disappointed in that fact.

Are you crediting Bush for this? He was the one who disregarded the Clinton intelligence about 9/11. - Reply to this comment

Better ask, how many terrorist caused deaths after Bush took office?
See, you just want to make him look good by cutting out 9/11 and ignoring all the death and carnage outside of the continental US. - Reply to this comment
- easeup...none on US soil since Bush took office...he moved all his terrorist attacks to Iraq. Anyone see this piece on 60 Minutes? It was an absolute riot. The head of the TSA is about as dumb as you can get. Of course, he has plenty of dumbarsssesss following him...I loved the part where he said that they can tell who are terrorists by the way they act, a look in their eyes. I guess that''s kind of like Bush looking into Putin''s soul. It''s all a bunch of hogchyte.

- "How many terrorist attacks on U.S. soil since 9/11?"
One huge attack where Bush & co failed to defend us or even respond until it was over was more than enough don''t you think?
Forcing mom''s to empty sippy cups and all that nonsense was really just over the top and did nothing to promote safety. - Reply to this comment
- The TSA is a governmental agency created by the Bush administration. Like everything else in the Bush administration, the TSA suffers from incompetence, arrogance, and a general cluelessness about the world around them. They don''t need an image makeover, they need fundamental change.
Most annoying is the TSA prohibition against liquids and gels. Skippy Bush pushed the fear button shortly after their water carrier Joe Liebermann ran into some re-election problems. The "suspects" in the plot were in the UK, many didn''t have passports (making it impossible to carry out a terrorist attack on a transatlantic flight), and the *** they were trying to make required sizable quantities of acetone and hydrogen peroxide, both of which stink to high heaven in a closed space like an airplane cabin. For this we have to surrender water bottles and lip balm...thanks Bush, yet another reason why you suck. - Reply to this comment
- "Go to a checkpoint and you''ll find passengers bellyaching about the undressing, the unbuckling, and the taking off of their shoes - which they don''t have to do in Europe or even Israel, where airline security is especially tight."
Israel has no problems with airline security. They know what they are doing, and obviously so does Europe.
The TSA is either stupid or pursuing some other agenda. If they don''t want us to believe they have an agenda, they need to admit they are stupid.
We should privatize security and let the airlines protect their planes and passengers. Then you would have a choice of how you want to fly instead of being treated uniformly as an enemy of the state. - Reply to this comment
- The Bush war on terror was mostly just a long series of knee jerk reactions that did little to keep us safer and wasted billions of tax payer dollars.
