No, all I need to know is that she is a female and therefore gets preferrential treatment. Employers are scared of lawsuits.

I admit, I don''t know anything about you. But I believe in equality for everyone, regardless of one''s gender. I have never allowed society to dictate to me that I can''t do anything simply because I am a woman! On the other hand, when a woman is treated with kid gloves because of some law, and does not have to pay her dues....then that does great disservice to all women...as well as reverse discrimation against men.
Although this post is a bit off subject, I would hope that if you have suffered from any type of reverse discrimination that you made an attempt to voice that injustice? - Reply to this comment
- I feel the need to post this again because nystrykerdoc keeps posting his over and over again. Just click once buddy. I know it took me two times to figure it out but really, your comment is there.
What''''s pathetic is that Specialist Stanson Smith''''s only comment was that Brown shouldn''''t of been there is the first place. Good Gawd! The chic throws herself over this jerk to protect him and that''''s his response?!? I''''m not saying what her actions did deserve a medal because she was just doing her job like all the others in the same situation but this Smith guy could show a little appreciation for what she did. There are other names that I would call this jerk but I''''m sure CBS would censor it. And as for all the comments made about women sleeping with everyone in the military is immature and are insecure with themselves and their roles in society. If you are so threatened by women in military situations then go crawl under a rock and cease to provide any other input regarding our society. - Reply to this comment

Your careere path is paved with rose petals as a woman. This woman was only doing her job, what she is expected to do, and the liberals are treating her like the second coming of Audie Murphy. Pathetic!

"Your careere path is paved with rose petals as a woman." (Dang....I can''t hold it back any longer...I really tried!)
This question is for you, lady_organs: Do you personally know girl_soldier? Well, I don''t, that is why I am questioning your "***-ump-tions" about her! How could you possibly know what her career experience has been? Take off your blinders, and put your sexism to rest please!
And to you, girl_soldier: Thank you for your service! We appreciate you! Please keep up the good work!! - Reply to this comment

- I was in Iraq for 15 months as an Army medic, and i was recommended for a Bronze Star only to be downgraded due to my rank only being a E4. During my tour i saw and heard of much more heroic actions then hers, and it disgusts me that they put her on such a high pedestal simply because she is a female. I dont care if females are in Combat Units, if they can do the job who cares. But unfortunately, many females end up sleeping with the very people they are serving with or are just not physically capable of hauling a 250 lb man 300 meters with 60 lbs of gear on. And what about the other men who carried the soldiers she was treating? They get no recognition. This is a political stunt.

- Mike-D777: There have been women in combat for several years. If you listened to the Col. He stated that female soldiers are attached to combat units. That is how they get away with it. The only job a female is not allowed to in list in, is infantry. So it was proved that women are "on the front line." Just not permanently. I am a female that has worked in a "man''s world" my entire adult life. I am good at it and I will continue to do so. Maybe you should grow some balls and sign the dotted line and serve. I did. I am stronger than some of my male coworkers. Come into the 20th century. Get over the fact that there are some women that are stronger than men. I does have to do with strength. But don''t discredit a woman because she is a woman.

- To lstrange2. There are NOT 2,500 military websites; just because some wanna be yahoo decides to create a "military" site does not make it so.
As for the use of language; we should expect more from a seasoned journalist. - Reply to this comment
- BAD, BAD use of words.
Winning? Did the journalist really refer to "winning" the silver star rather than being awarded or earning. Jeez.... - Reply to this comment

Well, the so what is you were trying to say that medics are unarmed. And that is incorrect.- Reply to this comment
- Awarding the Silver Star is a decision made by the senior leaders at the Department of the Army, not at local levels as are Army Commendation Medals.
The senior staff has criteria established by regulations for what has to happen to merit the award. The award can be downgraded if the recommendation does not meet those standards. Obviously, they believed Private Brown''s actions met those guidelines. Her actions make me proud to know there are true professionals out there in the ranks.
As for her being at the front I have two things to add:
1. When the enemy actions consist of using randomly placed explosives, THERE IS NO FRONT!!
2. When you are bleeding and suffering with 3rd degree burns, you are not going to care about the gender, color, creed, size or age of the first responders. - Reply to this comment
- Thank you Monica Brown... your selfless act is an inspiration to other young men and women. I am very proud of you.
I joined the military in 1958 at 17 years old... I have honored every one of our heros... those of you that are recognized and those that might be overlooked. I know that you are very special.
I have lost one grandson... an Army PFC.
I have a 19 year old grandson in the USAF. I hope that he has an angel like you to look out for him. - Reply to this comment
- This story is remarkable. For Spec. Brown to wish to take the entire day back because others have questioned whether she earned the award or not is disgraceful on the part of those she saved...

I don''t think here wanting to take it back has anything to do with the award but instead has to do with wishing that no one would have been injured. - Reply to this comment
- http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=medal+winner site%3A*.mil
For all you anal retentives who fret over the use of "win" vs. "award"
That is some 2,500 *.mil websites that use the expression "medal of honor winner", etc.
THESE ARE US MILITARY WEBPAGES.
So give the poor slepps like Lara Logan a break until you''ve written EVERY last webmaster and had them correct it. - Reply to this comment
- raflin0010,
If you feel this way that is your right but the logic is flawed.
So, every time a man is awarded a medal it is because his actions warrant that honor but when a woman saves lives and is awarded a medal it is because she is a woman. Doesn''t make sense.
To Smith, the man she saved. How about a thank you not "she is a woman and should not be there".
I guess he is to stupid or sexist to consider the fact that if she was not out there that day he would be dead. Perhaps a little gratitude regardless of his feelings would have been more appropriate - Reply to this comment
- I never said that she didn''t deserve it...I said that I don''t believe it''s fair that she would get such a high honor for doing what countless others have done and have gone unrecognized for!!! It''s what she was trained to do, it''s what she signed up to do. IT IS HER JOB to save lives, and keep them safe at all costs.

- I CAN''T BELIEVE PEOPLE DON''T BELIEVE SHE DESERVES THIS MEDAL AND THAT SHE RECEIVED IT BECAUSE SHE IS A FEMALE.
GOD BLESS HER AND ALL OUR OTHER WONDERFUL MEDICAL PERSONNEL IN THE MILITARY.

- So you just read the headlines, and make your decisions and form your opinions based on sketchy impressions. Don''''t bother to read all of it and look for details or explanations. Interesting way of gaining knowledge on a subject.

NO I read page 1 and formed my opinion. The point is there are men and women that do this EVERY day, because it''s what they''re taught to do and it''s their JOB!!! If she deserves a medal so do ALL the other''s out there risking their lives for the rest of us!! Enough said - Reply to this comment
