- Of all the worthwhile topics CBS 60 minutes could have chosen why would it engage in a one sided story glorifying two vain, cruel and self absorbed men who parade around in glitter tights professing a love of the art of the sport.
Bullfighting is as much a sport as is canned hunts of defenseless wildlife shot while lazing unaware in a fenced in meadow, or dog or **** fighting.
This is not sport, this is a staged act, often with the bull being 'prepared' by being drugged, putting vaseline in their eyes, or as has been documented, steel pins in their *******, they are in almost unimaginable pain even before they get their first lance-not very sporting I would say. Why didn't you show the slaughtered animal at the end of the "game".
Doesn't say much about Spain as a progressive country, condoning and promoting violence and cruelty as entertainment. But I'm sure there are many Spaniards who do not support or agree with this cruel and senseless tradition, why didn't you interview some of them instead of camera shots of the puppy eyed, empty headed screaming females running after their bloodstained hero. They care about him as much as they do about the bull, next bull, next matador.
I thought responsible journalism is showing a well rounded story that shows all possible aspects of that which is being reviewed, which 60 Minutes did certainly not do other than showing the side where the bull scored a few points before being massacred.
Now I know why Andy Rooney is the only reason why I will still tune in, at least at the last 5 minutes of the show. - Reply to this comment
- I was already depressed having watched your segment on the 401k disaster. Then you air a bizarre story on the barbaric practice of bullfighting. All I saw were two self-absorbed "heroic" brothers taking enjoyment on torturing an animal to death. What a stupid waste of airtime! Shame on you.

- I find it unusual that this young man would pray for help before he tortures and kills animals. According to the bible not all prayers are heard by God. It seems obvious that praying before torturing an animal would not be something God would answer. He created all creatures and only His adversary would be happy to see this happen.
Such a sad story, these young men think this is their "calling, they say it's in their genes...
They could have much better lives than these that they have chosen, I say chosen because we all make choices on what to do with our lives....and again, who are they really pleasing? - Reply to this comment
- I could care less about the compassion, or lack there of, but why the repeat? That's at least the second or third time that story's been covered. I didn't time the entire segment, but it must have been around 15 minutes. Only the last 40 seconds were "update". Please don't do repeats with the promise of an update. That's about 95% from a previous episode and 5% update.

- I've watched 60 minutes my whole life. Tonight you broke my heart. I look forward all afternoon to sitting down, relaxing and watching my 60 minutes, but tonight I had to change the channel. I was absolutely astounded that you aired the piece on bullfighting. There is a reason we don't have that barbaric and cruel "sport" in this country.... we've evolved beyond neanderthal mentality. We count on your show to expose injustice in this world so why did you not take the side of the innocent animal and the horrible injustice the bull has to indure? For the first time in my life, I'm utterly disappointed and ashamed of 60 Minutes.

- "[O]bscene tribute to spoiled, cowardly matadors." "Depraved." "Perverse." "Disgusting." "Barbaric outdated ritualistic." All true about this Bullfighting episode.
Who on 60 Minutes thought it was a good idea to show this cruel animal torture at 7pm Sunday night when children are still watching? He or she should be fired. - Reply to this comment
- Tsk tsk to 60 minutes for airing a story that glorifies animal abuse. How shocking to see a fashion show of matadors and the cheers of the crowd as they watch a bull being tortured and killed.

- So what happened to the brother? What was the scandal with the older brother? You forgot the topic of your story. Having lived in Spain I did not understand it at first either but as I learned about Spain and its history it did not seem so barberic. Also the meat from the bulls goes to the poor.

- I can't believe this program ended in the middle of the story What happened to the younger brother????????????????????
Why did people think the older brother did not deserve the award?????????? - Reply to this comment
- who was the pea brain to do this article on the torture of of an animal and consider it as interesting? Did you run out of material to work with. What is next? Cockfighting? All of you at CBS should be ashamed of yourselves! Wha a bunch of IDIOTS!

- It's appalling that CBS considers this worthy of 60 minutes. Not only is bull fighting barbaric and cruel, but listening to these young men indulging their need to find "nirvana" or their personal "limits" by engaging in the torture and death of an animal is repulsive. I say "Viva Los Toros!" Long live the bulls!

- Why does someone deserve an award for torturing an animal and killing it?

- I am furious at 60 minutes for showing this horrible segment. There's no glory in tortuing these magnificent animals and shame on you for glorifying it. These matadors are cowards, no matter how their exteriors look - and I am rooting for the bulls! I'm boycotting your show of which I've been a lifelong fan of and your sponsors for at least a year. I am disgusted.

- Oh Please! The bull-fighting Ordoņez brothers are adorable, no doubt about it, but they torture animals for a living! Everytime they're in the ring, the bulls get gored and are brutally murdered in front of cheering crowds. Ollias (first to respond here) is correct - the fight is staged. Yet, we are supposed to shed a tear over the brothers' fear that they may not return from their sport. Sorry, my tears are for the bulls, the *****, the dogs, the farm animals, the hunter's prey et al that go to their bloody horrid deaths for our gluttony and brief amusement. Shame on 60 Minutes for this obscene tribute to spoiled, cowardly matadors.

- I cannot believe 60 Minutes would glamorize such an evil, ugly primitive event. I am truly sickened.
Torture is absolutely not acceptable! Ever! Be it a prisoner at Guantanamo or a Bull in a Spanish (or Mexican rink.) It is always evil and I think the brothers should be imprisoned; not given an award. - Reply to this comment
- Way to glorify two men who make their living torturing animals for the amusement of others! I can't wait for the 60 Minutes story about the courage and bravery of Michael Vick in his dogfighting operations.

- I could not believe that you would glorify this sport. I went ahead and watched the segment assuming the torture of the bulls would be addressed. Yet you did not. This is animal cruelty at its worst. These two young men had been given options to another life, schooled in the US, yet returned to this ridiculous way of life. Who cares what happens to them since they chose the life of torturing a bull to make it attack? Not me. You call this a sport? Shame on you CBS for sanctioning animal cruelty. Just because something is a "tradition" doesn't make it right in this day and age. They stopped fox hunting in Great Britain and replaced it with a humane way to continue their "tradition". Why can't Spain?

- CBS, you can't be serious! A story glorifying bullfighting? What century is this? You have to know there are a hundred things wrong with this, I don't need to spell them out. Other commenters covered it well. I am very disappointed in what I had formerly thought of as a quality news show.
