"I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a US occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of al-Qaeda.

I am not opposed to all wars. I''m opposed to dumb wars."
Barack Obama Oct. 2, 2002

Here''s how John McCain called it:

"But the point is that, one, we will win this conflict. We will win it easily." [MSNBC, 1/22/03]

''It''s clear that the end is very much in sight.'' [ABC, 4/9/03]

Do Republicans still think John McCain was closer to the mark on Iraq?

"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him."
G.W. Bush, 9/13/01

"I don''t know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don''t care. It''s not that important. It''s not our priority."
G.W. Bush, 3/13/02

"I am truly not that concerned about him."
G.W. Bush, responding to a question about bin Laden''s whereabouts, 3/13/02 (The New American, 4/8/02)

the truth of the matter is simply this..REP and DEM authorized the war...they all need to strand up and take the responsibility of doing this and accept the consequences of their actions

How sad that you are not teaching your son the truth... That through deception and FEAR, Bush started the Iraq War by pulling the strings of patriotism shortly after Sept 11th.

i aqm teaching my son to answer the truth and take resposibility for his actions...taking ther responsibiltgy is not blaming others

Does Woodward have a security clearance to receive secret classified material? He has now disclosed a secret military program for capturing/killing our enemies. The disclosure that the program even exists is a violation. So fine of him not to mention the details: did he have government approval to even talk about it?

Similarly, the mention of alleged spying appears to be a violation. Who gave him this information? Some are prosecuted for passing on much less sensitive information (in private) while Woodward discloses national security secrets in public.
"Country First" for some; "Bob First" for him.

Any Grand Juries read the paper? Does the Military / State Department care that its personnel are giving extremely sensitive secret materials to reckless reporters?

Bob Woodward should be ashamed and shamed in polite company. One can only hope for indictment.

The troop surge has nothing to do with the decrease in violence. The people in Iraq are just getting tired of watching the worthless destruction take place in their country.

Halliburton should build some more showers;

We can''t have our soldiers showering in safety while our Generals relax to death in leather chairs.

HA!!!

With 8 years of failure by conservatives, you have a cocktail for a beat down. How is John McCain going to inspire the voter turnout for his party? His great speeches? Conservative talk radio? His flip-flop talk express bus overstuffed with Lobbyists? We all love to engage in punditry but the facts are the facts. Repubs do not have the votes to win. Outside of a total collapse (And I mean TOTAL collapse, not merely a split of the electorate)the Dem party they can offer up a broccoli f-art in a jar and still gain the White House.

What planet are you conservatives living on? Your Reagan Democrat pink cloud from 20+ years ago?

The U.S would have gone to war for those 52 hostages Iran had in 1979-80. Over 52 were killed in discoteques and clubs in Israel in the last 10 years. Sadamm would send 50 grand and a certificate to the families thanking them and encouraging more. We are so forgetful. Do you remember the last disqoteque bombed? I didn''t think so.

Out in Cali there is a property owner memorializing every US service death in Iraq. Yes, there are literally 4000 crosses on their property. They represent to me the tragedy that can be the MIS-USE of our military. The Vietnam memorial means the same to some from that era. The WW2 memorials mark a time of unification of the world to bring down two empires-to-be.

What will the Iraqi war memorial look like?

How many names are going to be on it?

Will we obfuscate the reasons for the fallen for our own historical gratification?

maybe it will be like the WW11 , Korea= and Vietnam memorials...all DEM wars
