- Gentlemen,
Thank you for your story reported by Scott Pelly regarding the fine work performed by Kirk Johnson. As is evident by the early hour the information in the story was very troubleing to the point of causing sleeplesness. As a lifelong Republican I am heart broken by the fact that my vote to enable this current Bush administation to remain in power for the last 8 years has created so much hardship for the people of Iraq; in particular to the brave and courageous souls who have so selflessly assisted our people over the last 5 years. To have so carelessly and selfishly turned our backs on them after all they have done is not only immoral but borders on criminal. God forgive me for my vote and forgive us as a nation for our arrogance and callousness!

- Well .... whatcha know ''bout that. Seems OBAMA was right about one thing. It would be CRIMINAL to allow John McCain to win the Oval Office. He did find the ''ELEMENT'' to gainig CLINTON supporters. AMERICA CAN''T AFFORD FOUR YEARS of JOHN McCAIN. I CANNOT BELIEVE ''RED TAPE'' IS INTERFERING WITH SAVING THESE PEOPLES LIVES! LOOK WHAT WE''VE (the US) DONE!! The BUSH administration toppled TWO SUNNI REGIMES. The gov''t of AFGHANISTAN (Taliban), and IRAQ. The US is seen in muslim eyes as aiding ISRAEL in it''s battle with HAMAS (Sunnis). And the SHI''ITES? McCain''s hinting towards military action against IRAN (SHI''ITE Central!), and you''re aiding the Lebanese (sunni, oldly enuff) in their conflict with HEZBOLLAH (SHI''ITE). ANY muslim who helped the US in IRAQ IS IN DANGER! Doesn''t take a genius to figure that one out. My new SLOGAN? VOTE DEMOCRAT !!!!!!!!!

- 650''000 dead iraqis
2 million refugees
1 million armed "insurgents", who consider themslvs freedom fighters
"pre-emptive" democracy is quite a messy affair.
and when we finally out of the bush iraqi quagmire - another saddam will rise up and everything will return to as it was.... - Reply to this comment
- I just watched the show on the Iraqi people being abandoned by the US Government, and make no mistake, they ARE going to be abandoned. How many Vietnamese and Hmong did we abandon in that tragic tale? For being the best Country in the world we have a sorry record of helping our so called friends

- "The people on my list have been tortured, they''ve been raped, they''ve lost body limbs. There''s one guy on my list who''s been thrown out of a moving vehicle. And all of this because they helped us. They came every single day to try to pitch in, in our efforts there," Johnson tells Pelley.

And not American freedom? More compassion from you people, I guess. The lack of compassion, the root of all that is evil. - Reply to this comment
- I''''m sure if you asked any of the terrorists on the flights of 9-11 they would say they weren''''t terrorists either.

They would have said they were Saudis and not Iraqis. What compassion you have for people who have to die for your lies. - Reply to this comment

- Your piece featured only Iraq workers for US agencies. There are some FIVE MILLION displaced Iraqis (2 million left, 3 million internally). Estimates (no figures are given by the US) place the number of non-combatant Iraqis killed and wounded by the US in the MULTIPLE 10''s of thousands! Their families are given a couple $1000, most get nothing but a shattered family. The problem with your story is the complete lack of the larger context of this problem.

- Maybe we should pull our troops out and let them fight their own fight rather than bring them and their issues over to America. There was a statement made to the effect of questioning why it took so long to let them into America because they were being questioned about if they were terrorists. To which one woman replied "I''m not a terrorist" - I''m sure if you asked any of the terrorists on the flights of 9-11 they would say they weren''t terrorists either. If they really want to help their country out, then they need to stay and fight. The US is over there every day fighting for them and all they%u2019re wanting to do is run - do they not think that our troops are scared but you sure as heck don%u2019t see them running anywhere - no, they are fighting every single day and many are losing their lives for people who are cowards and trying to leave their own country. If it were my decision, I would stamp a big fat DECLINED on every one of their applications because our troops are fighting for a bunch of cowards. They talk about the Iraqi people taking risks with working for the government - what do you think our troops are doing over there, displaying what they represent when they put on their uniforms every single day. If this Kirk Johnson person wants to help the Iraqi%u2019s come to America, then by all means let%u2019s let them in and they can live with him and he can support them because I know I sure as heck don%u2019t want my taxes going to help them one bit.

- There goes our jobs, social security, and what of Americas poorest and neediest? Thats funny! Being brain disabled without a full brain and living on social security disability at 50 years of age, I am actively pursuing vocational rehabilitation and live in a house of poorest and neediest in a group home as the only one pursuing the work force w/disability-our social services are under assault by lazy and fraudulent american citizens using "victimstance" justifications. After 25 years work in healthcare and a partial lobectomy in 2002,ive seen enuf of the poorest and neediest born in the usa, scam the taxpayer

- "many marked for death because they worked for the United States. "
TOO BAD for them, maybe they should learn from it- DONT help the US invade and kill people. - Reply to this comment
- Yeah right
Now we are going to have thousands of Iraqi collaborators and probablyy traitors being flown over here to at our expense to compete for our jobs and trample over the poorest and neediest Americans.
Not a single one should get in. If they are persecuted or killed by their own then so be it. Let it serve as a universal example of what should happen to people who betray and conspire against their country for any reason.
Treason is treason and it''s contageous! - Reply to this comment
- Thanks to your story these good people will live as Americans and I would be proud to have them as neighbors

- My hat''s off to Kirk Johnson for his unselfish work to help those who have helped us. My only question is, how can we put this story in front of the right politicians, since they are apparently the roadblocks in the immigration process?
So Sweden has taken in 40,000 to our 5,000, eh? Pretty impressive, although one might consider it less of a commitment that our seven-year war. Still, they could''ve said no, too.
Again - who can we put some pressure on to do what''s right? - Reply to this comment
- Again.....our forefathers didn''t hide in another country while someone else fought for their freedom. They allowed their country to get out of control and they need to get it under control. It''s not going to work bringing them all over here. Good bye more american jobs.....good bye social security.....hello higher taxes and higher prices to pay for them. So lets bring them all in and every one here in favor needs to donate the money needed and put their homes up. To each and every person slamming our negative opinions....what are YOU doing to help? Picking fights here isn''t helping them.
I can see it now. We will have to pay over and over and over again for years to come - our generations to follow for what we did.
If they stay there, the burden is less. If you all go over their and help, I''ll send donations. I see enough people right here that are in need. - Reply to this comment
