Why don''t they bore a 3 mm hole beneath the covering painting, insert a pinhole camera and see what''s under it? I don''t understand this multi-year scanning effort, when whether a gap exists can be determined with little effort and no damage. Like Howard Carter and the hole in Tut''s tomb, they may see ''wondrous things''.
