- The sole function of this weapon is to direct microwaves into humans in the form of directed beams in order to produce unbearable pain in them. At higher settings,it burns flesh, permanently destroys vision, disrupts the central nervous system, dissolves the omentum (the membrane that covers one''''s internal organs, burns you inside and out and literally fries a living person to death. Pregnant women''''s fetus'''' develop birth defects or it results in a miscarriage.
Sperm can be mutated by this. Many effects are known.
This is a weapon of extreme torture. Weapons which are designed to inflict pain as their purpose fall under the definition of torture. Naming them "less than lethal" weapons is very misleading. Also misleading are the arguments about how they save lives. Nonsense.
They are a technology which can take life as we know it because it is capable of controlling every human function of an individual at specified settings.
In addition, as a weapon which uses harnessed radio frequency energy (microwaves and millimeter waves), they leave no trace or evidence of their use. That makes them perfect for abuse. There is no way to
verify their use other than by forensic methods unless there are sensors and recorders present.

- This is a terrific idea & I hope the Pentagon continues to fund this and other weapons systems...you can''t have too many tools in the toolbox.
If we had been using this YEARS ago, we wouldn''t have lost so many service men and women (think Somalia, etc.)
Systems like this will help weed out those who are "merely" rioting from those who intend real harm, like suicide bombers.

Personally, I don''t give a rat''s behind about the "long term effects" on terrorists. In any case, you have to have multiple long term exposure to anything like this to cause long term health effects. - I''m all for non-lethal offensive weapons. However, why doesn''t 60 Minutes do some critical investigation into effects this long-range electro-magnetic experimentation (and that of the Harp antenna in Alaska) might be having on our very odd weather this winter? It''s not only fluorocarbons that can hurt the ozone layer and cause global warming. Your own telecasts have remarked on the "weird weather." People are freezing to death in China, the country has had snowstorm after snowstorm coast-to-coast, and the south has had tornado after tornado. Electro-magnetic technology presents far more power than the "butterfly effect." There almost has to be a link.

- Military technology should remain within the confines of the military.
There is a hint in this 60 Minutes broadcast that this technology can,
and should, be applied to the civilian sector.
On the one hand, the Los Angeles Police Department could utilize such
technology in a military fashion that other police departments around
the country would have no other option than to train their forces in
the L.A.P.D. style.
The technology would indeed be useful in gang related / domestic
violence calls.
On the other hand, it would also be useful in dispersing gatherings of
free assembly.
This type of technology is NOT designed for civilian forces with a
political agenda of creating law and the enforcement thereof.
When civilian leaders can find the money to purchase, train and
institute such military technology on a local level, yet, are not able to
find funds for, let%u2019s say, health care or education : then, said technology
should not be released to those leaders.
The manufacturer of such technology would not agree with the
aforementioned statement and would lobby against the technology being
bound only to the military.
It would not be far fetched to imagine that the manufacturer would
apply this technology to disperse people in protest of this technology
when there are local leaders who would enact ordinance to justify such
an application.

- The cops had something that looked very much like the picture except it was on a trailer not humvee set up during the 2004 RNC demonstrations on 8th Ave between 28th St and 23rd St in NY. They didn%u2019t use them but there were there and pointed at the crowds.
