We might well be better off if we just pulled the plug on the Pentagon.- Reply to this comment
- I was appalled by the story on the latest weapon, a science fiction type ray gun that presumably will be used against protesters in Iraq and possibly against peaceful protesters here in the U.S. This weapon may not kill, but it is very painful and can blister and even burn some people. 60 Minutes interviewed military people, but why was there no interview with someone who could discuss the ethics of using such a weapon? Our media should be raising these tough questions, not merely going along with the flow. I expect better of 60 Minutes.

Thank you for demonstrating that this latest tool of Fascism can be effectively defeated with a shield.
This beam must take a relatively large amount of energy to maintain for very long.
At least now we know that we can safely advance on the sadistic morons that are operating these devices, and neutralize them.- Reply to this comment

- Does anyone out there really see the problem with this piece? The US Army, or whatever arm of the military developing this weapon is playing out a scenario that the "enemy" are folks holding signs for world peace!!! Shouldn''t they be holding signs of hatred? SHOULD WE BE AIMING ANYTHING AT ANYONE WHO JUST WANTS PEACE??? Having peace does not mean we can''t have weapons or soldiers or pentagons. If we strive for peace, it may mean that mothers and fathers won''t lose their sons and daughters needlessly.

I suppose only the sadistic war criminals at the Pentagram would think that it would be a good idea to test this torture ray on people who are carrying signs that say "World Peace" and "Peace Not War".
I guess this gives us a good idea about who they plan to use this torture ray on.
The thing that I like best about this new torture machine, is that the big rectangular shield makes a very nice target for an RPG.
Attn. Iraqi resistance:
If you have a chance to destroy a few of these mobile torture machines, the world would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.- Reply to this comment
- I was apppaled by your recent report on the pentagon''s Ray gun experiment. I had to immmediately log on to comment.
The idea that it would be a deterent in war time situations is ridiculous. Armies will always use lethal ammunition in times of war.
It is quite obvious to me that it will some time soon be used against Americna civilians. It was quite obvious in your report with marines holding placards stating "peace not war" and that you interviewed a Los Angeles Police officer who was wanten in using the technology.
Although I have always respected the reports of 60 minutes, I think in this case you are being used as tool for the government, and I will blame you first when this is used on civilian Americans, which I doubt not will happen in the next few years. Congratulations for warming the pubic up to it. You are now officially Big Brother in my book.

Re: "Twenty civilians were killed in April 2003 when soldiers from the 82nd Airborne fired on threatening crowds in Fallujah."
You mean when the U.S. military opened fire on unarmed civilians who were demonstrating against the brutal and criminal invasion of their country? Right before the U.S. military destroyed Fallujah and murdered hundreds of innocent civilians, even using WP as a chemical weapon of mass destruction?
How about not being there in the first place?
Wouldn''t that be a better option than this new torture beam?- Reply to this comment

- "Systems like this will help weed out those who are "merely" rioting from those who intend real harm, like suicide bombers." - same id.iot, again
Really? How exactly does is "weed out" anyone? Their idea is to take out EVERYBODY! Just aim and ZAP! All fall down!
BTW, complete id.iot, suicide bombers don''t usually spend a lot of time announcing their intentions. They arrive at a crowded spot, then BOOM! There''s no time to call in the goons with their ray gun to knock everybody out!
Boom! There is NO defense. The ONLY possible defense is to NOT make enemies, so you won''t have people trying to kill you. Once you have enemies, you are doomed. The USA couldn''t defend itself on 9/11 and it can not defend itself from millions of determined enemies, no matter what it does. (Of course, it took some truly amazing id.iocy to receive the warning "Bin Laden determined to strike US" on August 6, 2001 and to just continue on a long vacation, as Bush did! But what can you expect from a drunken im.becile?) - Reply to this comment
- ArmyMomNH says, "Personally, I don''t give a rat''s behind about the "long term effects" on terrorists."
That''s because your fear and hatred have turned you into something LESS THAN HUMAN. They are human beings. Most of the "terrorists" we caught and stockpiled at Guantanamo have been released after many years of torture BECAUSE THEY WERE INNOCENT. Do you not care about THEM? (I doubt you do.)
Shoot first and ask questions later is the slogan of imbeciles and sociopaths. It doesn''t matter whether the result of shooting is immediate termination, or if it is a long slow agonizing death, or even just insufferable pain for an instant. The ONLY time you are justified in shooting anyone is when they pose an immediate threat to another life. (BTW, nobody in Iraq posed an immediate threat to the US!)
As soon as the pentagon can convince you this weapon is "safe", it won''t be long before every cop squad gets one. Cops are already so eff-ing paranoid that they shoot mental defectives who aren''t "under control" because they are "armed" with a pencil! They break into old ladies'' apartments at night, unannounced, and shoot them hundreds of times when the old lady tries to "defend" herself with her gun (let this be a warning to that id.iot, gunownerdan!). Etc, etc. Cops are waging a "war on crime" and they think WE are the criminals! - Reply to this comment
- It is utterly stu.pid to believe that this weapon "does no harm" to the people they shoot.

- I notice that during the report it ws said that there is no harm to a person "if it is used correctly". What does that mean exactly?
Last summer on "Democracy Now" they covered this weapon and they showed holes that had been burned through cars and people with limbs that were cleanly removed. The victims all claim that they don''t really know what hit them, it was some mysterious weapon.
I think that you have bought a whole basket of government propaganda.
Why not get the WHOLE story, not just the visible pieces? - Reply to this comment
- In conjunction with SDbeth. I deal with RF on a day to day basis. All of the injuries that SD posted can happened in large exposure to RF. My question is, what kind of limits is this device going to have. How high could you crank this sucker for example.

- I resent the government''s use of "world peace" and "end the war" signs for "make believe adversaries", (their choice, not yours) for their testing of their ray gun device. I''ve been to many Peace rallies and demonstrations over the last 25 years, and have never seen any rocks thrown! Why didn''t they use White Supremacist or KKK signs? They would have been more dangerous "adversaries" than Peace activists.
