please continue to work on this story. This is more dirty politics and everytime such is exposed, we are closer to a more transparent government. Shame on those who will stoop to this just to remove an opponent. Great job CBS

One blog indicated there was a blackout in Alabama. There was not. As to former Governor Seiglemen, this is not the first time he has had legal issues surface while in public office. Where was Simpson during his trial? Where was all this evidence and information when he went to trial? He had counsel and he is counsel, so you would think that any witnesses or evidence that could have been brought forward to exchonerate him would have been presented during his entire legal process as well as the trial, all of which was a lengthy process. Seiglemen has reached the end of his rope and it appears that this is a last ditch effort to get him out at any cost..........find it strange that this is just coming to light during a national election.

No i try to hold Republicans and Democrats accountable for their actions. I do get disapointed at my party. they are more concerned with blaming someone else for their shortcoming. than trying to get something done to solve this country''s problems. The democratic party is more divided than ever. Too much name calling instead of standing up to the plate and hitting a homerun. Obama and Hillary for instance are dividing the party to the point McCain will probally be our nest president. Obama''s supporters hate Hillary, and Hillary''s supporters hate Obama. and their running Neck and Neck. Nancy Pelosi who made history as the first Women speaker of the house has disgraced the democratic party. Democrat''s have control of the house that gives them more control than the President and they cannot get anything done. A good speaker of the house will unite the house both Dem. and Repb. and get something done. Instead all they know how to do is set back and blame Bush. If they would unite Bush would not have much power. And while they bicker over who''s at fault gas price head towards $4.00 a gal. But that is bush''s fault too. while all along Bush has tried to get them to open oil drilling in alaska but our party says no might hurt our enviorment

You must not drop this story. Please air the other segment. This story is sobering look at Republican "win at all cost" politics and is so typical of the Bush,Cheney,Rove administration. Some day the high crimes of this administration must be prosecuted.

Yes, indeed, bluebamaboy is a registered Democrat that spends days trying to defend obvious Republican crimes. Why should anyone give anything bluebamaboy has to say any credibility? He has as much credibility as Bush, none.

If Gov. Don had not pushed for the Lottery he would be our Gov. today unless they still would have prosecuted him. Facts are if he had not pushed for the Lottery this state would have voted him Gov. instead of Gov. Bob Riley (R). We vote Democrat in alabama contrary to CBS reporting.

JAMALA101:

I see we have another deluded Bushy posting, one of the remaining 20% that are still duped into thinking their king, Bush, is doing a great job. Maybe you would fit in better posting at Fox News; there seems to be a lot of deluded dullards over there. In contrast, most of us real Americans want to see real investigative journalism return to national networks, as was well done in the piece by CBS, and we want to see the Bush thugs forced to testify for a change. We are sick and tired of the secretive and corrupt Bush dictatorship and we want our government restored to the transparency required for effective democracy.

JAMALA101 if you notice we are among a bunch of Bush Haters in the forum. I am a register Democrat in Alabama And I just tried to make people realize the facts and they bash me. I have no polical agenda I just don''t like fabricated stories. I have Clearly stated Gov. Don did not do any more than most public officals do he just by the voice of a randomly pick republican and democrat jury got caught and prosocuted. I actually think he recieved to harsh a punishment but that wasn''t for me to decide. But I don''t think Karl Rove had any reason to take down and ex governor Who was voted out by the people of alabama.I know they say we altered the votes after everyone went home. But facts are-contrary to CBS reporting we are a Democratic state With a democratic Lt Gov. and Mostly Democratic State house ( which you can confirm if you Goggle ) and if Gov Don had not have pushed his Lottery that the people of alabama had already let him know we did not want by a public vote. He would have won by a large majority and would not have had to worry about the 3000 votes he claims were stolen. Sore Loser lingo. this largely democratic state will vote Democrat if you don''t push against the bible belt policy''s. But they won''t compromise their beliefs in alabama.

As per bluebamaboy''s comment about why CBS covers this and no one else, it really is a sad commentary on how much power these Bush thugs wield that they can also conceal so blatant corruption as their political prosecutions (just one of many of egregious abuses of power coming from the Bush cabal) for so long by intimidating and bullying the media into compliance with their Soviet-style censorship. Alas they can suppress it only so long, as the truth always comes out eventually--which is what they fear the most (hence the absolute refusal to honor any subpoenas from Congressional investigations--if they have nothing to hide why the vehement attempt to hide everything, like the millions of lost White House emails). This really speaks to how dangerously close we are to completely losing our democracy. Every free-breathing American should be praising CBS for being one of the few or maybe even the last vestige of free press we have left. It is refreshing to see some integrity in journalism for a change, after these last secretive and dark 7 years of the tyrannical Bush reign.

Keep investigating, since the Bush thugs hide and will not testify, it is up to valiant reporters like at CBS to uncover the dark truth in the face of such abusive power and extreme secrecy from those in power. Hopefully we can ultimately indict bluebamaboy also. Lets bring these traitors down, to restore our nation to its former greatness. Good work CBS.

I can see bluebamaboy is at it again. Boy he has a vested interest in this to be obfuscating and dissembling still.

It is salient that he can''t offer a serious rebuttal to anything 60 minutes reported, so he now tries to discredit them via character assassination. Typical Karl Rove, who must be bluebamaboy, as this is one of his underhanded tactics as well. Ultimately, it is a failed strategy also, as such a frantic and desperate defense also bespeaks a defenseless position. Can''t fight the message, so kill the messenger.

Regarding the Huntsville, AL TV station''s failure to broadcast the Siegelman segment: Within the State, North Alabama is considered very "Democrat". If Republicans were going to pick one station to block out the news, Huntsville would be a logical choice.

Thank you for having the guts to show this story despite all of the pressure to ditch it. I have always had great respect for 60 minutes for giving news, not yellow journalism.

I have heard there is MUCH more to the story. Please present it. The country needs to air its dirty laundry.

It is amusing to see all the comments that want 60 Minutes to do more on this story, saying you have only scratched the surface. These people don''t understand that you have much more that you withheld which are the real facts of this case that show Siegelman and Schrushy are guilty as charged (so says a jury). You presented only some wild, untrue conspiracy theories. People, just ask yourself how a liberal AG from Arizona would know anything about this case. Ask yourself how that crazy lady lawyer (who the Alabam Republican Party told 60 minutes they have no record of her involvement with the Republican Party) could have had a conversation with Karl Rove in 2001 about getting compromising pictures of a recently defeated ex-Governor, and why would he care? Why don''t you present all the lies she has told, which together make up quite a fairy tale.

Yes, 60 minutes, please tell us more about this case. This time, why don''t you present the facts instead of wild rumors and lies. Governor Don Siegelman took a $500K bribe from HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy and a motorcycle from Lanny Young and got caught, received a fair trial, was convicted by a fair jury, and sentenced to prison by a fair judge. What is so difficult about telling the truth? I guess the truth doesn''t fit into your political agenda against the Republican Party.

This was a first rate story. It dramatizes the political corruption of th eJustice Dept under Rove and Gonzales. Please follw up on this story in th eregular evening news and all other CBS new outlets. Keep it alive. Support Congresional efforts to extract sworn tetimony from the Exceutive Branch on these illegal activities. The first step would be impeachment hearings that would compel sworn testimony from many who are now dodging it.

PLEASE go further into this story. It seems as though you just scratched the surface when this could be the impetus to cleaning up the corruption in the justice department...and more importantly, free what appears to be an innocent man.

Ironic thing this morning this story has so little credibility that it has not even made headlines with any other news network and don''t think they haven''t investigated it too. This would be the story of a lifetime for any news network. Other networks have reported this story without reaching the same conclusions 60 min. reached. Today the headlines seem more important about a snake swallowing a dog than this story. Not one news network is covering the Gov. Don story. nope not ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, nor FOX. Last I remembered that didn''t have the story on the Forged Documents about Pres. Bush either that also was CBS cost Dan Rather his job. Guess the other networks know you better stick with Facts when telling the news. George Bush Was probally guilty as charged But Forged Documents don''t make a case.
