really common sense how about the fact that for 20 years every time he came up for a paroll hearing he never tried to do anything. Oh wait how do I know that? Well lets see my mother was the sister of the young man who was murdered. So there for the state of north carolina contacted our family every time it was time for his hearing. And everytime he had a hearing the family would either go or have a represenitive go to these hearings. He never once tired to prove himself innocent. Is that common sense enough for you or would you yet? Are you part of the family who has kept up with it for so many years I don''t think so, so dont embarass yourself anymore.

If new evidence has come to light why not seek out the truth?! Yes, it''s awful that parents were taken away from their children, and children had to grow up without their parents, but again if there is a way to prove this man innocence why not look into it. It''s not that everyone wants to only hear "his side" people want to hear the truth and get to the truth. Isn''t it better to know the right man is behind bars?! Granted Mr. Hunt is no angel from his own admission but another man states he did the murders. Not to mention it really sucks that the other man''s attorney didn''t come forward before. That''s where the law sucks. I understand about client/attorney privilege but if it''s re: murder or rape & your client devulges this than I believe his/her lawyer should be made to come forward...to avoid problems such as this.....

jogle1106,

If a tree falls in the woods has it made a sound? Just because the media is finally reporting this story after 20 years, doesn''t mean that he wasn''t trying to plead his case before. Please, use some common sense.

jogle1106,

Would it be the first time for you that I supposed eye witness lied? I don''t know whether he did it or not, but if there is a single chance that an injustice has been done, something should be checked. People have lied under oath before. DNA and other evidence has been tampered with. If you let people who are supposedly upholding justice break the justice themselves, then you are not for justice. Justice has nothing to do with making anyone be punished for a crime.

Good work 60 Minutes. It''s a shame Dwight Adams won''t be put in jail for his sins. His lab continued to perform the bullet tests for a YEAR --after learning it was "junk science"? Then he failed to fully inform anyone (those the FBI had helped to convict or the court system) of the findings. At the very least Adams and anyone else who covered this up should be fired immediately.

But your not getting the point lee wayne hunt himself did not shot the victoms. He was the one who stabbed both of them repeatedly. And Jerry Cashwell the man whom they say admitted to his lawyer that he was the one behind it all is now dead. So who''s to say the lawyer who is saying all of this isn''t lieing now? And why after 20 years is he just now trying to prove his innocents? Come on people get the real facts and not just what CBS wanted to tell.

OK here is this, for all of you who did not attend the trial or read the journal from the trial. Lee wayne hunt did not shoot the victoms, he meditated the murder with 4 other men. One in which turned state evidence who now is dieing of cancer, one commited suicide, the third also died of cance and lee wayne hunt himself has had 3 heart attacks. what goes around come around right. Well Lee Wayne Hunt was the one who premeditated this murder, he was also the one who stabbed the couple numerous time. This was told by and eye witness! The man who turned state evidence. And to realpatriot1 no this is about lee wayne hunt, he is trying to get another trial. However! For those that have truly been convicted of a crime they did not commit I do believe that there should be justice for them. But not this man. He ripped away a young couple from their infant daughter and now he wants justice for this brutal crime. But remember what I said about the other men convicted of the murder? God has his ways of punishment and he will be punished for his acts. I love you Cmaples just remember that your family still stand by your side no matter what.

They should send every fbi employee involved who testified under oath to jail for life. That is justice, anything short of that is a failure to do the morally correct thing.

Also, DNA is not flawed but humans are. A lab in Los Angeles was in the news not too long ago because of mistakes made over the course of many years.

Again, just because you belief someone killed someone DOES NOT mean that they did.

cmaples82,

If you were in prison for something that you didn''t do, would it be okay with you? Wouldn''t you want someone to help you? How does it help a victim if someone who didn''t kill them is in prison? If an innocent man is in jail, then the guilty one is free. There have been so many, many cases of people falsely testify against someone (one case that I remember where the person who actually did it testified against another). It''s not enough to say, well at least he is not dead. If he is innocent, our justice system has failed.

Ok just because we beleive it doesn''t mean it it is true but there were witnesses that testified againist Lee Wayne Hunt that are no longer alive . So until you know the whole story ( Which yiu never will because all people wanna hear is his story ) you have no reason to say anything about it . I would like to tell my story but no one cares . I was the one that was punished , I would rather my parents in prision than dead .

redneckgurl2,

The problem with this country today is people take their beliefs as facts. Just because you believe it doesn''t mean that it is true.

In my opinion this is just all stupid. I think he''s gulity and he should not be set free. My cousin don''t have a mom or dad anymore because of this situation. He gets to see his kids all he wants to, but my cousin can''t even talk to her parents anymore. She grew up without a mom or dad. This happened about 20 something years ago and my aunt and uncle can''t even rest in peace yet. People need to hear our side of the story instead of Lee Wayne Hunts.

No wonder the FBI and DoJ refuse to let me show them evidence of evidence tampering in the jail footage given to me by the county sheriff''s office...they don''t want to convict the jail house criminals who tortured me...and if it''s not their goal...well...just don''t let the truth be found...not much different than...hey, we want to convict...someone...anyone...hey, let''s go ahead with totally fault bullet lead analysis...it''ll take''em years...uhhh, maybe about 40...to figure out it''s nothing but junk! ...so what do I care about truth or justice?...I just want to get a promotion from high conviction rates...yeeeeee haa!!

Check out http://ghosdog.podbean.com if FBI, DoJ, law enforcement injustice, lies, etc., interests you.

1st cops planted evidence (fingerprints)etc at crimes to "solve" them; then FBI previously "handfed" evidence to get them convicted because someones opinion was that they were guilty; now this! Incredible that not every single case was not handmarked and given retrial. i never watched the OJ Simpson trial but i knew it had planted evidence & knew from the time factor (which is what the jury reviewed) to find him not guilty of the murders.Wish folks would have the intelligence to do the same.

mitchoncbs,

The responsibility of a defense attorney is to represent their client; it''s the job of the jury to cut through the garbage and to render a fair verdict. Sheck is no hero but he isn''t a creep for representing O.J.(who is a creep) or for bringing this issue forward.

MCVet,

There was another confession in this case but that doesn''t constitute guilt or innocence by itself. People do provide false confessions at times and the article doesn''t describe what detail was provided.

I have to assume that cmaples82 and the family of the victims are more familiar with all the evidence in this case and I wouldn''t be comfortable questioning their judgement on it.

It''s unfortunate that CBS highlights particular cases and intimates the facts by presenting what the lawyers have to say about it but don''t include the victims.

cmaples82,

Try to understand that this issue is about more than the case of Mr. Hunt. He may be guilty of your parents murder and if he is I hope he ultimately gets what he deserves. There are hundreds of others convicted with this form of tainted evidence who may be innocent and they deserve justice too.

this is about as goofy as that jerk who was an expert at teeth bite marks on victims- like that was an EXACT science! since I am a hunter I know what flesh looks like and how human teeth marks would be impossible to differentiate in a wound, but this guy claimed he could
