- bobepeel: Feeding a hungry child is not a "feel good solution." It is a solution to a hungry child.
You are mistakenly lumping two problems into one.
1) Irresponsible reproduction---a problem America can''t even solve within its own borders, where every dimwit with genitals thinks they are in some way obligated, even endowed with the right, to spawn.
2) Hungry children that are already here.
Both problems need to be addressed simultaneously, and they do not conflict. - Reply to this comment
- I believe it is more important to save these babies now and worry about birth control when this problem is under control. What can we ordinary citizens do to help? Why not start a fund raiser?

- healthypc - where do you get your information from? Did we watch the same program?
I don''t think they expect us to do anything and I don''t believe that by helping others in need fosters rape and aids. You seem to be making a lot of assumptions from a 10 minute segment.
Do people in Nigeria lack education? Yes. But don''t you think they need to be healthy first.
I don''t think it is right to stand idly and let innocent people die because you don''t agree with their customs or birth practices. - Reply to this comment
- I help to run a mission in Haiti.
There are children in the area that are in desperate
need of Plumpynut.
I am traveling to Haiti with a medical team on July 4, 2008. I would like to take some Plumpynut with me.
Where can I purchase this food?
Sincere thanks,
Clint Goddard

- If abortion is the solution, someone should tell Norma McCorvy(roev.wade who has recanted). Why do some people think the solution to the problem killing helpless women, some of whom have already suffered the violence of rape, and children...hmmm, maybe because their father is the Devil?

- PS if we all have a right to procreate.....as one reader states..we also have a responsibility to raise that offspring...subsidizing just continues this mania...they expect it and we do it!
What will happen to these children later?
They will procreate again..also good, another reader mentioned the rapes and aids....it''s irresponsible
to foster that ...giving aid makes people more
lazy expecting "aids" (forgive the pun).
I don''t think any of these mothers "enjoy" their children and US thinks they are so helpful.
If they have these religious beliefs then they
should honor commandments such as adultery etc.
So rape is okay and *** with minors is okay
oh my, I don''t think christianity or muslims have an excuse to feed them....it has to stop ..
I say castration to all rapists, sexual molestors ..ha
Here we have tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, high gas and food prices.
Why should be provide AID? It''s a gov''t plot
to feel important and show the world how "great"
we are....are we? - Reply to this comment

- Plumpynut, what about birth control to stop the rampant proliferation of unwanted children. Keeping kids from starving only to allow them to produce more children that can not be fed is ludicrous. This is a typical feel good solution that Americans love but do not produce any real results. Take the D.A.R.E. program that we have in this country that has done nothing to prevent drug abuse. Parents and police have touted this program for years but it has produced little or no real results. Plumpynut only enables more children to repeat the cycle.

- In the long run Plumpynut will only make this heartwreching problem exponentionally worse. What happens when these healthy children have eight children or more each? What happened to accountability? I can''t believe the parents watch their suffering children die and do nothing to prevent another pregnancy, knowing they can''t feed another. Are doctors educating them about birth control? If not, Plumynut solves Nothing! And I''m sure so many caring people will want to give to this cause, but where does it end, there''s not enough Plumpynut possible to feed the future uncontrolled population. I would pledge $1,000 today if birth control and Plumpynut are offered together, but I will not pledge 1 cent to this lack of thought attempt to solve, WHAT?

- This was a heart warming story for a change . With all the bad things going on in this world. I feel this is an advancement nutrition. As for the comment on birth control.Maybe because of neither lack of comprehension or just plain coldheartedness on your part did you not understand that because of malnutrition these children dies before they reach adulthood . children in this culture is just as important as in any normal American family. WHERE IS AMERICA''S BIG HEART IS IT BECOUSE IT''S A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY and not European????? How can anyone think birth control is more important then feeding children.

- Wow Anderson!!! I respected you because you always spoke your mind and was not worried about the politically correct answer. This one was main stream media hog wash. I am not sure who tied your hands (joke we all know CBS wanting that good news story as long as the US is not involved unless it is blamed for it) but the real issue is mothers having an average of 8 children in a country that can''''t feed itself and spreads aids and other sexual diseases at a rampant rate(Unfortunate result of an underdeveloped country. Lack of knowledge kills.Thats a real feel good story...huh!). Always save life''''s when you can but not to watch them die from disease and famine when the population even grows to a more unmanageable number.TREAT THE WHOLE PROBLEM!! Very poor"FEEL GOOD STORY" Mr Cooper. I heard you quote the birth rate and then nothing. Maybe you wanted to expand but how dare the main stream media criticize another country. They save that for us. The most generous country in the world whenever disasters hit any other country. We as people and country are always first responders. Oh well just had to comment. I absolutely do not want you to be told how to do a story or what not to include. I hope you read this. Keep your integrity even if that means quitting the CBS gig.
P.S. What about all the rapes from tribes going village to village? Oh that''s not a feel good story...can''t print that.. - Reply to this comment
- Why don''t these people simply stop f--king. What''s wrong with this picture? Why are these "people" having chidren they can''t take care of? Stop F---king! There would be no more starving children! Condoms are on sale this week at Walgreens.

- These are innocent babies/children that need our help. Plumpynut seems to be a step in the right direction (although I am concerned about the powdered sugar in the food makeup..that''s another email). Along with helping these little ones, GET SOME BIRTH CONTROL TO THEIR MOTHERS/FATHERS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!! WHY DO THESE HALF-BAKED/HALF REPORTED STORIES ALWAYS SKIRT AROUND THAT ENORMOUS ISSUE? WHY WON''T WE ADDRESS THIS? WE HAVE A TREMENDOUS PROBLEM ON OUR GLOBE WITH POPULATION OVER EXPLOSION AND NO ONE SHOULD BE BIRTHING A LARGE # OF CHILDREN--REGARDLESS OF THEIR RACE!!!!! THIS GOES FOR EVERYONE!!

- A long held opinion is that if people are fed at someone else''s expense, they will need to have housing, medical care, education, employment, etc. also. If the children continue to be married at ages 11-15 and each couple produces a dozen children, the "Doctors Without Frontiers" are going to need oceans of plumpynut! This policy is disasterous in its present form.

- Will someone please please tell me why there is no birth control? What happened to tubal litigation or sterilization or castration for that matter? What is the purpose of having a large sickly, undernourished population increase? It''s a viscious circle! Quality not quantity. It makes no sense to worry about hunger when more and more babies, who do NOT ask to be born, are brought into this world suffering. It is irresponsible and outright dispicable!
The western world uses birth control yet we could afford children. But we are asked continually to subsidize these underdeveloped cultures. What is the purpose? WHY? Will somebody please have a story as to WHY, WHY? We don''t have free medical care for many US citizens and many of us are poor and undernourished! - Reply to this comment

- Why are so many of you focusing on birth control?! We should be happy that doctors without borders is saving so many lives with plumpy nut. Instead all you are doing is judgeging people, how does that help the situation? Plumpy nut takes cares of a basic human need, nutrition. I think you all lack compassion!!!!! We all have a right to procreate!!! Survival comes first for the people in this region!!!
