As most of us know by now, the claim of "Fair and Balanced" is an empty slogan. Honest journalists don't need a PR banner to hide behind.

Lesley Stahl demonstrates her lack of regard for real journalism by claiming that you have to be a political suck-up to be a real journalist.

Hey Lesley, that's only true if you want to be "in" with the Bush White House. Real journalism is the watchdog - not the lapdog - of government.

! Without these same high skilled immigrants, there would be no Intel, Google, Sun Microsystems, E-Bay, Yahoo just to name a few.Posted by proinmigrant at 08:59 PM : May 07, 2007

Uh, believe me we'd have figured it out and we'd all be making a lot more money. You're argument doesn't float. You were brought here for cheap labor that's it.

Dobbs unfortunately is not forth right and honest, just he claimed he was pro-legal immigration and that he is only against illegal immigration. This isn't true, just the other day he was bashing high skilled immigrant workers, claiming falsely that they take away jobs from Americans, yet ignoring the fact that the employer must first attest to the Department of Labor that there is no American to take up the job and that the employer is similarly bound by law to pay a prevailing wage or higher but not lower. Instead he brings in organizations whose agenda is suspect, NumbersUSA and the Programmers Guild but never lets the other side tell its story, so much for fair and balanced! Without these same high skilled immigrants, there would be no Intel, Google, Sun Microsystems, E-Bay, Yahoo just to name a few. Dobbs lacks objectivity, misleads and never tells the story as it is.I don't care if he did go to Harvard, Lou Dobbs is wrong. His distaste for Mexicans and irrational view that the US is always the best at everything clouds his ability to make rational judgments about economics. You can bet that he didn't learn the views he is espousing at Harvard. I guarantee you that the economics program at any respectable school in the US is pro-free trade. Anti-free traders are much like those against evolution, they have some stupid irrational "feeling" that precludes them from seeing obvious truth.

I earlier voiced my support for Lou Dobbs, the only TV journalist who is addressing some of the most pressing issues of our time. It is unfortunate that "60 Minutes" and the "Southern Poverty Law Center" try to portray Dobbs as using illegal immigrants for fear-mongering purposes. I have been watching his program for years and can tell you that this simply is not true. He is merely advocating for our own citizens by pointing out that when millions of illegals compete for the same jobs, it lowers the pay scale and hurts the poor and middle class. Our Hispanic citizens equally lose out when they are unable to be paid a fair wage. It is not the illegals themselves he is targeting but rather our elected officials and their corporate supporters, who encourage the influx of cheap labor. These leaders have the audacity to call themselves patriots. At the same time, our immigration policy makes a mockery out of homeland security when it becomes so easy to enter this country. Is it not right to report the consequences of illegal immigration?: lower wages, overcrowding, providing the same costly services, such as education and healthcare, as our citizens? Lou Dobbs is clearly on the side of the American worker. We should be grateful to him for educating us on these uncomfortable issues that too few others are willing to address. It is discouraging when our elected representatives on both sides of the aisle feel that taking on this serious issue will jeopardize their chance of being elected.

Our beloved Elected Leaders, who think only of serving the citizens of the Other Nations, will offer up yet another Amnesty Bill called whatever this week. Senators, pumped from Corporate and Religious Lobbyist Therapy Sessions, will vie with each other in detailing horror stories of how Evil USA citizens who lured poor innocent migrants to the USA have disrespected them, insulted them, taken THEIR jobs, and refuse to add USA citizenship to their string of Citizenships. They will wail about the plight of the undocumented who often have lots of documents. They are just not their documents, instead they have been stolen from USA citizens who have the gall to take offense. And Mass Deportation? Oh, USA citizens will be lining up to toss babies back across the border like the animals they are. Just think, if the Politicans and President Bush could get rid of all of the USA citizens and just have Illegals become replacement citizens, how happy they would be. Could that be their plan? One has to wonder. Simply enforcing the laws on the books by penalizing employers and cutting of welfare to illegals and food stamps to illegals and free medical care to illegals would have most of them self deported in six months.

"...but Lou is full of contradictions. He's pro abortion-rights, but against gun control."

How is that a *contradiction*? In what way are those two issues interrelated?

incredible

My respect for Mr. Dobbs grows more and more with each passing day.

And just because one is a Republican doesn't mean one is evil either. Ditto for Democrats.

I wonder, if Abraham Lincoln lived today, how long before he'd be shot for espousing stuff like what he kept saying during his day?

I agree with Lou Dobbs about illegal immigrants. They should be deported as fast as possible. When you start counting the taxpayer services they are getting FREE, it is mind blogging. They get free medical care, free schooling, housing, food stamps, driver licenses, etc. If the illegal aliens were not here taking jobs from Americans, then you would see the unemployment rolls drop. No, deport them as fast as possible.

Diseases, bogging down our welfare systems, snearing at us from the street corners, you can't talk to them in our own language, putting the black people out of their jobs, filling our emergency rooms, they have a baby here and their here for life... with the baby's welfare payments, they are genetically of lower I.Q. (alot of them are, certain mexican tribes are), most mexican's are communists or socialists, that means that we are about to import (comprehensive immigration reform) a bunch of communists and socialists (mostly) into our voting system when they are made citizens of U.S., and their way of pushing the government into giving them U.S. citizenship is to march in the streets waving mexican flags (mexico is a stalinist state).
Of course we are getting cheap laborers.
WOW does that make it worth all of the above.
53% of the people amnestied in 1986 are now totally dependent on welfare.
What an addition to the American Nation.
Eisenhower deported several million illegal aliens, but George Bush can't seem to approach that with a much larger border patrol.
Say goodbye to the American Southwest several years after 'comprehensive immigration reform' because alot of them are mad that we took the American Southwest away from Mexico. (most of the world remembers things longer than we do.)

Leslie Stahl, you and other "journalists" helped Bush/Cheney sell this war.
Do you really think the public doesn't know who you and many of your fellow "journalists" support.
I don't like Dobbs, he's just a Republican who strays from the party line in some cases.
But at least he is honest with where he's coming from.
Do an article investigating something important, then we'll call you a journalist again. Right now, I just think you are a paparazzi with a pen.

The fact that the news show "Lou Dobbs Tonight" is always announced as "News and OPINION" should inform the viewer of the show that there will be facts and Lou Dobbs' opinion. He should not have been attacked by Leslie Stahl for being an Advocacy Jounalist. He is a great American and I would hate to see what our country would be like without him.
