- but lou if you can get over the fact that these people entered the country illegally ,maybe we can come up with a realistic solution.we all know theynbroke the law when they jumped the fence.but that's why they have to pay a fine before they can be documented, background checks the whole deal, then be considered to receive legal papers to remain in the country.have to pay taxes,be of good moral character,no criminal background etc.if your argument is that american taxpayers have to foot the bills that these illegals rack up than would you not want them to pay their taxes, because many of them are willing
if your family was living in such poverty would you not do what you can to search for a better live. maybe you would not understand, afterall you live on 300 acres - Reply to this comment

- Trvljac - Bravo! After what transpired today with the Fort Dix threat, how anyone can be against securing our borders and ports and tracking those who have entered illegally, and are still demanding open borders and free rein for those entering illegally, there is something seriously wrong with them. Whether they want to believe it or not, there are those that want nothing more than the downfall of this country and relish the idea of killing Americans. They also want the ecomony of this country to fail.
I don't care where they come from, I want the influx of illegals to be stopped and stopped now. To reward law breakers is beyond the pale. - Reply to this comment
- I am a fan of Lou Dobbs. As far as I am concerned, he speaks for the majority of Americans on the subject of illegal aliens.
As we've just learned about the group who were planning to gun down soldiers at Ft Dix, 3 of them were "illegals" .... how many more "cells" are amongst the millions of illegals in this country?? The 3 captured are likely the tiniest drop in the bucket!! One third of our prison population are illegals (per the Bureau of Prisons)!!! No form of amnesty should be given to those who violated our laws as their first act of being here!! - Reply to this comment
- Come on now, Leslie, just how naive ARE you? Your comment...."traditional, detached, impartial news show" is ludicrous!! All the major news shows cover only what their corporate offices approve of, and avoid topics that call into question the motives & actions of that corporate world. Such terms as "free trade", "war on Terror", etc. are never fully and openly discussed, with diverse opinions given their say. The cheerleading of the major news anchors during the invasion of Iraq while at the same time their bosses also built the weaponry used in that war represented the grossest conflict of interest !!!! Why don%u2019t you address THAT in your search for "traditional, detached, impartial news"??

- Dobbs responds here:
transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0705/07/ldt.01.html
Despite what Potok from the SPLC implied in the 60 Minutes piece, Dobbs has only done *three* reports on illegal aliens and diseases, and only *three* reports on illegal aliens and rape or sexual predators.
If Stahl wants to be a good journalist, perhaps now she should do an expose of the SPLC, particularly of their indirect link to the Mexican government. - Reply to this comment
- Lou Dobbs Tonight documented its claim Monday on the number of leprosy cases in the United States.
%u201CIt%u2019s creeping into the U.S.,%u201D said Dr. William Levis, head of the New York Hansen%u2019s Disease Clinic. %u201CThis is a real phenomenon. It%u2019s a public health threat. New York is endemic now, and nobody%u2019s noticed.%u201D

- A "reporter" does things like report the latest government press release claiming the water is 50% cleaner than last year and call it a day. A journalist might go take some water samples and have them tested to see if it's true because clean water is a "cause."
Lesley seems to be pining for what would be called a "personality cult" that is served by propagandists.
And this critique coming from the network of Katy Couric? Yeesh! - Reply to this comment
- Journalism is not stenography, it is facts in context. "Fair and balanced" is not journalism, IMO the phrase now has been warped and redefined into jingoism via Fox faux news.
When there was a Fairness Doctrine, no one thought of journalists as fair and balanced. The very existence of such a doctrine recognized there is bias and provided a mechanism to respond to it in a clear uninterrupted manner. Try to find that these days anywhere there is a claim of "fair and balanced", it does not exist in that context. - Reply to this comment

- I wanted to comment on the %u201C60 Minutes%u201D story on May 6th, 2007. I thought although the piece seemed to be designed to draw Mr. Dobbs into a controversial statement giving the reporter a %u201Csound bite%u201D which may be held against him, I feel that he defended himself and his beliefs well. It seemed by the manner of the questioning that there was an underlying agenda, which the reporter in question may not even be aware of due to her public %u201CRe-education%u201D directing the questions. Thank you for believing in our Republic and defending it at a personal cost to you. I believe that the aforementioned cost will be small in retrospect to the contributions he are making to the betterment of our nation. Thank you Lou and keep up the %u201CGood Fight%u201D.

- Lesley Stahl must be confusing reporting with journalism, but even reporting can be bias. Wake up and question authority and say "Sir that's not an answer!" People are learning that corporate news is total ***. Fill in the blanks to your research- or are you neutral? Get people to think about something more than a catchphrase that entertains people for five seconds, and leave Lou alone! He's about our only hope. So Ms. Stahl, stop being part of the *** machine, do your research, use your brain, and back up your opinions with your efforts.

- American citizens have had "the plight of the poor, undocumented immigrant" shoved down our throats from every angle, from our President, to newspaper and television reports.
Are we no longer allowed to question whether there are also negative effects of our government's failure to enforce current immigration laws?
Lou Dobbs, unlike most "journalists" reporting for Main Stream Media, provides his viewers with the "not so rosy" effects of illegal immigration.
As a strong believer in our Constitution and the "rule of law", he simply states what many of us already know -- that we are a nation, not made up of a particular ethnic or cultural group, but of ALL races and of ALL ethnic backgrounds, bound together by our English language and a set of "ideals". Our success as a nation comprised of such a diverse group of people is based on the common belief that everyone MUST follow the same rules and laws - that we are all equal before the law. Most of us believe that chaos will be the end result of ANY group being awarded special privledges...inevitably dividing those who believe that EVERYONE must follow the law, and those who were "rewarded" for violating our laws. Acceptence and respect for the "rule of law", and abiding by those laws by EACH AND EVERY PERSON who wishes to become part of our society, is VITAL to our success as a nation. - Reply to this comment
- Lou Dobbs for President. Sounds good to me. Nobody else is standing up for Americans like him.

- As most of us know by now, the claim of "Fair and Balanced" is an empty slogan. Honest journalists don't need a PR banner to hide behind.
Lesley Stahl demonstrates her lack of regard for real journalism by claiming that you have to be a political suck-up to be a real journalist.
Hey Lesley, that's only true if you want to be "in" with the Bush White House. Real journalism is the watchdog - not the lapdog - of government. - Reply to this comment

- Dear Proimmigrant - Either you don't watch and listen to Mr. Dobbs or you put your own spin to fit your "pro immigrant (illegal)" stance. Mr. Dobbs has never shown "DISTASTE" for Mexicans or any other ethnic group. Spin it as you wish but Mr. Dobbs is a "true American" and cares deeply for this country and its' citizens. He advocates following the law and not rewarding lawbreakers. He isn't against the immigration of those wishing to come to this country legally and you should review what he was saying about high-skilled foreign workers. He merely states the government issuing the visas for these workers actually check to see if American citizens have been given the opportunity to fill these jobs not just taking the words of those corporations wishing to employ them. Do you really believe that there are NO skilled American workers? Besides, some of these visas are not going to skilled workers.
The same corporations that have abandoned the American workers for cheaper overseas labor are the same ones advocating the immediate entry of cheap foreign workers.
The American citizens built this country through hard work and loyalty and these same corporations that reap millions in profits are the corporation built by the American worker. That is what greed does, it abandon those who built their companies and left them without pensions or health benefits to line the pockets of the CEOs, etc. with outrageous yearly incomes and incredibly outrage bonuses. - Reply to this comment
