The two 60 Minutes stories displayed a sincere case of dramatic irony. The leaders of Darfur all but admitted by default that they were committing genocide by pushing the non-Arab Africans out of their homes and into refugee camps. America, albeit capitalist -- to say the least, has not committed blatant genocide to anyone in Brooklyn or LA or New Orleans or in any heavily-populated black community in America. If anyone, we ostracize ourselves. By the end of the newscast, I sincerely wished the people of Darfur could come to Brooklyn and send the hip-hop generation to Darfur. If they want it, give hip-hop rappers a real reason to distrust the police. By continuing with the status quo, the community will commit genocide on themselves as they not assist the police and law enforcement in bringing justice to the murderers, rapists, and thieves reeking havoc in their home. As long as they continue to keep silent, they won't have to worry about the government or the police; they will kill themselves thereby allowing themselves to be killed. No genocide. No racial profiling. Just no backbone.

Anderson Cooper should have done a follow up piece on the pardon for Scooter Libby, and Alberto Gonzalez' dissembling as perfect examples how "don't snitch" works in the White House and the nation's top law enforcement officer.

This kind of behavior is beyond excuses regardless of whether you're white or black, rich or poor, powerful or weak.

The lack of disrepect for CIVILIZATION is what's taking place. We shold all be insulted that our personal protection is dependent on our own willingness to hold EVERYONE to high ethical standards.

One more thing. I like having police officers, but the bad ones ruin it for the good ones. The police in my town shot and killed an unarmed man who only crime was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. How can we trust cops when they do things like that. How can we expect the police to control crime when they have a hard time controlling their own officers. If it were up to me, a police officer would make a lot more money to make the job more desirable to attract highly educated and dedicated people. Their job would be to keep the peace, not to lock up and ticket everyone they possibly could. I would want them to talk to law makers so we could make and change laws that would positively effect the communities they serve. They would get bonuses to lower the crime rate and keep it low, not just to harass everyone.

That's it. Blame everyone but yourself. That's what the black community is good at. Never take responsibility. While you're making excuses & crying "racism & "victim" 24-7, everyone else is working & getting on with their lives.

You're doing it to yourselves. The black community is getting hurt. Young black men dying left, right & center. And it's not the police killing them in 99.9% of the cases. Neither is it the KKK/Aryan Brotherhood/skinheads.

Wake up. Stop the stupidity. You want the gangstas & murderers to rule the streets of your neighborhood then just carry on the way you are.

Police officers have a one of the hardest jobs in the country. They have to enforce every law, weather they like it or not. Which is the real problem. There's many harmless people that get locked up for breaking laws that hurt no one. Say I get locked up for abusing an illegal substance because I have an addiction. How is locking me up and putting me with a bunch of low life's going to help me. So why would I trust a cop ever again or help them, when they couldn't help me when I was down. If they were there to serve and protect, then why didn't they put me in a drug rehab clinic in stead of a drug addictive breading ground like jail. A place where most of my friends learned to commit more crimes, sell and do more drug instead of learning to rehabilitate themselves. Now most of them are dead or still committing crimes and don't care about their future or anyone else's and are truly a menace to society. If police want the respect and help that they're asking for, then they need to make an effort to change the laws hurting the people who are not threats to society, like pot smokers or people who have three drinks and drive perfectly fine. Then they might get the help their looking for. Also, they could be a little nicer and not treat everyone like a criminal.

I'm an old white retired engineer, a 104 pint blood donor who could give references e.g. Hawaiian Junior Miss, the guy in charge of advanced aircraft carrier design (a former Admiral), the state depts. sr. rep. for the nuclear cleanup of Tuwaitha, Iraq, a Missouri state senator and judge, a former major leaguer, a computer guy at one of the premier Institutes of Technology, and a former shipyard commander. I saw a crime about two weeks ago. If that had happened one year ago, I would have called the cops and told them which way the criminals ran. After an incident that totally made me mad, I won't tell them anything anymore. My attitude now, is their so smart, let them figure it out. Last October, I was following my doctor's advice, "Lose weight or get diabetes." by riding my bicycle when a cop passed me, turned around and snapped my picture as he rode by. Since then, I'd say I've had 4 separate occassions where they've attempted to get me to steal cars, etc. in order to show what good cops they are. The sheriff of this county is in jail.

I like when 60 minutes states the truth. There are idiots out there who will not stand up for justice. You see a womans son lying in his own blood as the result of a thug who didn't like the way he looked at him and you don't report this to ANY authority? Then you are an idiot. Our communities have fallen apart in so many ways that it is unbelievable. So now we can add another thing to the list of how we don't care about ourselves and those around us. During Cameron's interview he said that he would not snitch on the serial killer living next door but he is smart enough to move. Well it is quite obvious that many individuals in the projects do not have the same means to relocate but you have to start somewhere. Such as saying that you will not stand for the disintegration of who we are and where we live.

I'm sorry that I feel that I need to tell you to open your eyes.

I have black friends that are upright and moral. They go to my church, and they are Christians. I also know Moslems who are upright and live peacefully among us. All whom I respect.

However, from my perspective, here...most of the black community doesn't need help looking bad. They do it on their own. In my own neighborhood, they sell dope. They walk the streets in their gang colors, thinking that it is cool that they are uneducated have a criminal record, and encourage others to be the same way. They are also the majority of the men here that think "pimping" is ok. That think beating a woman into submission and into taking drugs, then prostituting her out is fine. Most of the homeless, either in a shelter or not, are black. Most of those in jail, are black. And many are in jail taking the blame for something their buddies did. They've ruined their lives, and then turn around and blame white people.

This is the bald TRUTH. I don't personally believe in digging into people's business. But if it hurts my friends, family, and neighbors, you bet, I will call the police. And they HAVE hurt my friends, family, an neighbors. And they are getting close to me. I'm sick and tired.

The root cause of the whole problem was revealed in one sentence but I guess you did not realize it. They are angry and distrusting of the police because of the War on Drugs. The horrible undercover and unconstitutional actions, including killing people in no-knock raids, which are SOP in the drug war makes the police everyone's enemy. How can you talk to someone who killed your brother for nothing. That is how the police are seen.

Solution: End the insane drug war!

As a mother I must teach my male child at an age when most children are still innocent, to fear the police--don't make any sudden moves around them, never run in their presence, speak intelligently, never question their authority and wait for help from a parent or lawyer.
Maybe if the police were not so abusive toward black people, in and out of the community, we could see them like whites do as 'Officer Friendly'

This is so sad...what is the solution to this problem? I don't think rap music itself is the cause, my kids like it, buy it, listen to it. What doesn't help matters is that a rapper who is an idol and hero to young impressionable kids brags about not snitching. Someone has to be a brave enough role model for these kids to change this attitude around or I don't fore see things ever getting better in the high crime rate areas.

I am offended after watching your broadcast this evening of 60 Minutes. How could you allow such a racist remark be aired on public television. I am refering to the remark made by Camer'on in which he states, " White people make guns and bullets", insinuating I am in effect responsible for manufacturing and distributing this product. I deeply believe this is a racist comment towards myself and my race. How can one person so claim an entire race is responible for the actions of a few? I am so profoundly insulted by your braodcasting of Mr. Cam'ron's statement, that I demand a public appology by both your station and by him personally on national television, for slander against my ethnicity. If I am not satisfied with the results of my request, I will be forced to seek legal council and persue other venues of recourse.

Sincerely,
Sharon Wornick

In my experience, this is a generational decision, and not that of a rap or inner city culture. A 25 year old acquaintance was remarking that he saw a "friend" at a grocery store who was obviously high on meth. This friend also had a young child sitting in the cart. I suggested he make a report to the police to make a "well child check" at the user's home to verify that she is being cared for, (I'm a social worker and very cynical that any meth user can care for a dog much less a child). However, he refused to call the police stating that he's not a "narc". I expressed my beliefs about child safety taking precedence, and he continued to say the guys' probation officer will catch him anyway. This is so sad for our culture.

I sincerely doubt that CamRon wrote this statement. After watching his interview it is clear that his grasp of the english language is severely limited and there is no way that he could string a paragraph like that together. This is clearly a PR move, that was written to minimize the outrageous remarks that this idiot made. How can a society function without some rule of law? These people should be ashamed of themselves. I was also disappointed that 60 minutes failed to criticize Carmelo Anthony for his participation in this despicable behavior.

About two weeks ago, cops came to a house and said they had a report of loud noise and fighting. They took a young man to jail. Thirty minutes later he is found hanging in his cell. They say he committed suicide. Why were there signs that he was beaten?
