CBS should have had a more credible source asking the questions of the Edwards. I haven't watched Katie in years notsince I figured out what a poor mother she must be. She could never be home. She was doing special segments at night, every day early morning plus making the society rounds dating. She needs to worry about her own children.

I thought the quality of this interview was very poor and cannot believe the manner in which Katie asked her questions. Who cares about how she didn't spend enough time with her dying husband because her career was more important. Who is she to judge because she has some sort of hindsight revalation? And her constant "some people would say" or "others will say". Oh come on Katie...why don't you just say that's what you think. Or if you don't think that, then why go there? I can see why she is ranked #3 out of 3.

Bringing up her own experiences so boldy would have been too distracting to the interview. Its not about her, but you could also feel that Katie knew what she was talking about.

To Sweetiee1 --

This is a legitimate point, but I did not hear her preface her questions accordingly. If she was trying to bridge the gap between objective reporter and concerned widow and mother, she did so rather inartfully.

Perhaps Katie asked those questions because she knows where they come from. She may regret the time she spent on air as opposed to the time she could have been at home with her husband and children. She speaks from experience and is maybem just maybe trying to get them to realize that their children are only young once. Don't take away precious time they could be spending with their children.

I would rather a reporter come off as "insenstive" than to not get the job done. At the end of the day, the reporter doesnt matter. The answers do. We are confusing what's important here.

NCgal2, it's not worth jousting with you. I stand by what I have written.

No, njva17420, i think it is YOU who does not get "it". The point of the interview was to get information, I think we can all agree that we got a massive amount of information from the interview. Attacking the interviewer's approach is a little irrelevant now.

NCgal2 STILL doesn't get it. The interview was not an interview, which is a way of finding out information, but rather a prosecution or an inquisition. And inquisitors are not the same as interviewers.

What is the point njva17420? I honestly dont see what I'm missing here. Someone is "cruel" to ask
legitimate questions on voters minds? Don't you see, those questions would have been diffucult no matter how they were asked. No matter who asked or how they asked, it's all the same. An extremely painful and unfortunate situation. Instead of attacking Katie Couric, let's attack cancer.

Smart, insightful, original, full of integrity. That's what I have considered "60 Minutes" during my many years of loyal listenership. Katie Couric's interview with the Edwards was a descent into the realm of Fox News. Shame on you, "60 Minutes!"

I find it hard to believe, EllenWB, that an interviewer asking legitimate questions that should concern voters will turn "60 Minutes" into a tabloid-quality show. Your response doesnt even make any sense. Maybe Katie does regret keeping her job while her husband had cancer, maybe she is trying to get the Edwards not to make that same mistake and talk some sense into them about what is important in life. Its also important to say that running for the highest office in the world is probably a lot more draining, taxing, and time comsuming than working a daytime tv gig. I thought the people who watched "60 Minutes" were supposed to be intelligent, instead all I hear are passionate reactionary responses that are kin to the kind of president we have now that thinks with his "gut". No wonder this country is such a mess!

I think EllenWB hit the nail on the head. Katie Couric did not get the answers she wanted, and I think that this is what gets so many reporters/interviewers into trouble. They seem to believe that by rephrasing the question time after time, they will get the answer they want. It has been said that one definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect to get a different result -- and isn't this what we have seen from the current Administration?

Katie Couric is a mean spirited person. She asks cruel questions, but when her husband was dying she sure didn't quit her job to stay with them and her husband.

I turned off the interview and I never watch cbs news because she is so distasteful, agressive and mean.

Why does 60 minutes want to ruin their show, by adding her to the show.

The cbs executives will find out that their rating will go down with any program they put her on.

NCGal2 writes: "I mean, her own husband died of cancer and i remember seeing pictures of her in tabloids around that time and just how devastated and depressed she looked."
..............

I think the key word here, NCGal2, is "tabloids". That's what Katie turned an American Tradition called 60 MINUTES into! That's one of the key reasons viewers were so angry and disgusted. As far as I can tell, nobody complained about the "asking of questions". It's about the badgering! It's about Katie-One-Note being angry because she didn't get the answer SHE thought she should get! It's about the tabloid quality of the interview!

With that, I will sign off!

What was Katie to do? Not ask the real questions on voters minds? Was she supposed to sit there and cry for them and "boo hoo boo hoo". Yeah, that's a real interview. I mean, her own husband died of cancer and i remember seeing pictures of her in tabloids around that time and just how devastated and depressed she looked. People keep saying not to judge the Edwards' decision, but they have no problem attacking and judging Katie. Cant a person do their job anymore? What a bunch of hypocrites!
