The only anger i have is towards people who are trying to stop reporters from doing their jobs, which means asking difficult questions. i dont have a "thing" for katie, in fact, i probably would say i like the Edwards much better...but this is unfair. and i dont like people being unfairly prosecuted for doing their job and doing it well. so there, sweetie, that is what angers me! have a good one

NCgal2, you still haven't answered my questions. Beaten...I don't think so.

I believe the Edwards have stopped to a new low not Katie Couric. She is bringing out what we all want to hear. The truth..the real reason behind the decision to place wife and children last. That speaks wonders about how the country would be run...scary to think of that. The children will pay the price..as will our country if elected. Go home John Edwards...your priorities are staring right at you.

Look, NCgal2, you have a funny way of indicating "caring". You have written some nasty things about what you perceive to be John Edwards's motives for running. Again, why such anger? You write as if John and Elizabeth Edwards are deliberately thumbing their nose at you. This is not your own personal issue, as you seem to want us to believe. You DO protest too much.

First, in an email of disdain to CBS Corporation, I referred to the Edward's as the Anderson's. My bad; I'm Republican and can't keep all the names straight. My apologies to the Edward's, and, probably, the Anderson's. If, 'if' mind you, tv journalism is supposed to be helpful across all issues, what possessed Couric (and 60 Minutes) to produce and air such a piece of vile, malicious, self (spelled r-a-t-i-n-g-s)serving puke? Democrat or Republican, black or white, yada yada on and on, I hope my country has not come to value expressions so shallow in the name of being fair, unbiased and informative. We ought to 'throw the bum's (collective) out' and end these sideshows.
I've been around cancer in my own home and can empathize with Kate's experiences and what the Edwards must be going through. Kate should have been able to draw the line at the commonality of their suffering. Hers was, in my opinion, a very tactless and tasteless decision to go down that road. If someone was into a decision to make hay, it wasn't the Edwards'. How awful, under the guise of the First Amendment, Journalism, and the 'Public's Right to Know'. Cute as a button during the first Iraq war with big ole Gen. Schwartzkopf, she's morphed into the poster 'it' of irresponsible media journalism. The comparisons to Coulter are deserved. I didn't think it was possible for anyone to sink to that level, but, move over, Ann. You have a mentor!

I happen to like both John and Elizabeth very much and was very sad to hear the news about her cancer, but I feel they need to rethink their priorities and that Katie asked the questions that most voters will want to know when they go to the polls. I love the Edwards, but this country is in crisis. So,the return of her now "incurable" cancer and having two small children changes the game for me. I just think he would be too distracted, but that sure doesnt mean i dont care. i care very much!

NCgal2 writes: "All of a sudden giving an interview that "SOME" people think was insenstive is the equivalent of calling someone a homosexual slur? Is Couric really as bad as Coulter all of a sudden?"

Huh???????? Did I miss something?

Oh, ouch... I didn't write that you did not vote for Kerry/Edwards NOW. I wrote that your apparent anger seems to reflect a deep antipathy towards Edwards NOW. Again, why all the anger at him? Glad to hear how supportive you are of people you voted for. Katie Couric will feel secure in your blind support of her.

Gotcha. I actually voted for Kerry/Edwards AND attended a sweltering hot rally for them in Raleigh, NC which took up the entire day. SO HA!!! Im just speaking the truth, Katie's interview was FAIR and its wrong to attack her.

Isn't Coulter that blonde lady that recently called John Edwards a "***"? How in the world is Couric giving a tough, but "fair" interview anything resembling that? I think it is unfair to compare Couric to Coulter based on one tough, but necessary, interview in which a lot of pertinent questions were answered for voters. All of a sudden giving an interview that "SOME" people think was insenstive is the equivalent of calling someone a homosexual slur? Is Couric really as bad as Coulter all of a sudden? I dont think so!!!

I admire Wordsmithk8's hope that CBS will try to rehabilitate Katie Couric's career and recollection of her time at NBC, although I disagree with the favorable view of it. I don't think that Ms. Couric works well in the 60 Minutes format. (As for NCgal2's string, all it seems to reveal is a deep antipathy for John Edwards.)

WordsmithK8 writes: ..... "she was more Coulter than Couric."

Funny you should say that, because as we watched, my husband and I said almost in unison, that Katie had "outCoultered" Coulter herself!

This is probably exactly what he was looking for, a passionate vehicle to propel him to the front of the race...were he otherwise would never have gotten in the face of Obama and Hilary's larger-than-life campaigns.

Sadly, this is not the Katie we admired for 15 years on the Today Show %u2014 the Katie who ambushed Papa Bush so effectively, the Katie who touched the world when she reached out to the grieving father at Columbine, who spurred us to take cancer checkups seriously through her own courageous example. Yes, she asked the tough questions we expect her to ask, but gone is the empathy, the sensitivity %u2014 she was more Coulter than Couric. Had she remained with Today and done this interview for Dateline, I think we'd be talking about it for all the right reasons. And if we'd seen the "old" Katie on 60 Minutes, her ratings would go up for all the right reasons. CBS has a history of sinking great talent %u2014 witness Jim Aubrey's one-man torpedoing of Judy Garland. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes %u2014 the real scenes, not those depicted in blogs %u2014 but it's clear that the CBS pressure-cooker is once again about to burn another fine career. CBS big-wigs: It's not too late to let Katie be Katie. As for the Edwards's decision: I have several family members living with cancer, and their example is phenomenal. Even greater than the service John Edwards might do as President is the service the Edwards family will do as they walk this path, wherever it takes them, and in the process, show us all how to truly live with any kind of chronic illness.

So, we are allowed to judge and analyze a reporter's personal life but not that of a possible presidential canidate? I think John Edward's personal situation is of more importance than Katie's because he is running for President. Not her. How odd that we attack some people and not others for perhaps doing very similar things. I would say this proves that the Edwards are seeking to gain sympathy votes. Suddenly Katie Couric is enemy number one, perhaps she did John Edwards a huge favor! What would all of you have to say if his poll numbers suddenly started rising....oh, how CLEVER Katie Couric is! This proves how difficult it is to be in the public eye when people love you one minute and then hate you the next. Dont worry, if Edwards stays in and gets sympathy votes, everyone will adore Katie Couric again and say "I knew all along that's what she was doing." How cruel is it to hate someone one minute and love them the next if it somehow furthers your own political agenda? If John does get sympathy votes, he owes Katie big time, that's probably why he said her interview was "fair". She probably just did him a huge favor!

KATIE COURIC HAS STOOPED TO A NEW LOW. GET RID OF HER!!!!!

Instead of hiding behind a line commonly used by other vicious gossip mongers "some people say", why didn't Katie Couric at least speak for herself and conduct the "interview" (inquisition?) based on her own thoughts. Although we are registered as Independents, my husband and I tuned in to 60 Minutes because we had heard the Edwards' were to be on. We watched in disbelief at what Couric did. She is an unethical journalist!! FIRE HER!! Remember how fast Connie Chung was fired when she stooped to tactics like these? She was not heard for a loooong time!!! This is what should happen to Katie Couric.

We used to watch CBS News. After trying it for a while after Couric was hired, we gave up on CBS for news. She is terrible. DO THE RESPONSIBLE THING. GET RID OF THIS WOMAN.

We admired the Edward's for their poise and control during this, oh so public, personal attack on them. Maybe this is a good forum for training "would be politicians" for things to come.

In the future, we will be sure to avoid any program featuring Katie Couric. Hopefully she will soon be gone from broadcasting.
