the only problem with your logic Brian is that the bosses never go down, its always the enlisted guys who get the shaft- saw it when i was in 40 years ago, hasn''t changed an iota.

As in Vietnam, the enemy was not anonymous, the enemy was in DC.

"The chair military should stop trying to find scapegoats among its armed forces and direct its blame finding to the Oval Office!!!" Posted by tklusa1

You are of course correct, but the case, because of its dire consequences, must be built from the bottom up. These are war crimes and treason charges, the latter of which are capital offenses, therefore the evidence of the crime, as well as the evidence of the consequences, must be complete and voluminous enough so that even the attempted scapegoats lead back to the top.

Scott Pelley crossed the line - he is supposed to report, not judge. and to all you who are judging Scott Pelley- unless you have walked in his shoes, who are you to judge him? As in Viet Nam, the enemy is anyomous--

And who is this "enemy" everyone keeps talking about???
24 unarmed civilians killed. What heroes??" Posted by cotati08

Well, first the enemy was a CIA asset called Al Qaeda, led by Bush family frieng Bin Laden, they were supposed to be in Afghanistan even though 17 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis and there was a Bahrainian and a Qatari thrown in for good measure.

Then the "enemy" kind of morphed into Saddam, then all of Iraq, soon it will be the Afghanis again, then maybe (depending on who emerges as leader) Pakistan, then perhaps Iran.

In short, Bush points his crooked finger, and the war worshipers forget "yesterday''s enemy", and focuses on the "new enemy", hating whomever Bush tells them to hate, without rhyme or reason.

Poor unevolved suckers...

Well - no one made them go. And in Wuterich''s case - he went out of his way to get there - for the fun of it. He wanted a war experience. Let me repeat that. He wanted a war experience. He didn''t say he wanted to defend America - or any other lofty sounding goal. No - he simply wanted a "thrill". And then when he saw one of his guys get killed - he went wacko and murdered many, many people in cold blood. Not in a fight - or a cross fire. No - he shot unarmed men; he blew-up with a hand grenade cringing women and children.
There are instances where civilians are killed in war and it''s just part of war. It does happen. But that is NOT what happen here. Civilians - innocent people - were targetted for revenge.
BTW - why is the US army there??? What exactly are they fighting for?? And who is this "enemy" everyone keeps talking about???

Those people have never done anything to me to make we wish to go fight them, and I feel no need to assist big oil in their agenda. Big oil doesn''t care about me, why should I care about them?

To ''brianbwb''...
I may be a ''NOOB'' but I''ll bet you''ve never battled anyone but the folks on this commentary and those in your sterile little room where you practiced your martial arts for 25 years. Hooray for you boy - why don''t you put that training to use where it might be useful - like Iraq or Afghanistan instead of fighting Americans? - Perhaps your intellect could be useful there too. Otherwise you''re less than an FNG and more dangerous!

You are right, it should go all the way up, but as was established at Nuremburg, "Just following orders" does not excuse war crimes.

I have an additional comment; anyone who has never been under fire hasn''t got a clue...these guys are young, scared, and Yes, they saw one of their own blown to bits...who in the hell would want that to look forward too? They are all trying to stay alive to be able to get back home...none of those Marines should have ever been charged in the first place. It looks like the chain of command ought to be held accountable for some of this, it they think that they have to charge somebody...get real people..this is war over there..civilians and military die.

Posted by sandranivensI am of the "bring them all home immediately" bent, In this instance, as in Vietnam, we are the attackers, they are only defending themselves against our invasion, something every sovereign country has the right to do, by any means at their disposal.

No, Wuterich did the wrong thing. For sport.

I think that it''s pretty rotten when a reporter/interviewer can ask the crappy questions of this young Marine...unless the reporter has been in this young man''s shoes; then he has no idea what he was going though...not to mention, he was following his training...if they are going to drop charges against his fellow Marines, then they should drop them against him as well..there is an OLD saying from General Sherman that war is hell...well it is, and *** happens in every one of them (wars)..bring all the boys and girls home if this is how they are treated...why risk any of their lives any longer? There are civilian casualties in every war...that can''t be helped...my husband was in Viet Nam...was angered by the way the young Marine was treated...he says that he did the right thing..look out for yourself and you men, because you don''t know who or what the enemy will send into your path to destroy you...they used women, children, and old people in Viet Nam; and my husband still has nightmares about the hell he saw. SO..either shut up or bring them all home!!!!!!!!!!
