I do know a little bit about Grant. You seem to imply that in the 1870s the term "Radical Republican" was equivalent to our use of the term radical today. Those "Radical Republicans" believed in making sure that the newly freed slaves were given equal rights under the constitution. Those Radical Republicans made sure that the first African Americans were given the freedom in the south to run for elected office. Those Radical Republicans made it possible for the first African American to be elected to the United States Senate. The also however, stripped many former confederate leaders of their wealth and land, put federal troops in many states of the fomer confederacy to ensure that the new laws they passed to ensure the rights of African Americans were carried out. They were high handed and many might say brutal in the way they dealt with the former Confederate states. Their cause was noble but one could argue that does not justify their means. - Reply to this comment
- ourtomorrow,, Sorry about the screen name misspel,,, It's just your concept of Bush being some kind of successful leadrer -- He's gravely damaged our countries National Security & that doesn't seem to be a problem with you.

- mh4cbs1,
So your best arguments are name-calling.... what backwoods school taught you that was the best way to convince anyone of your position?
Apparently, you've decided to call truth lies and lies truth.
What an insane rant!! - Reply to this comment
- Outmorrow,, You apear to be a histoy buff,,, This is no longer the party of Lincoln or Reagan -- It's the radical corrupt party of Grant once again.

I gather that you object in someway to the screen name I have chosen since you refuse to type it accurately, that is of course your perogative j-whitman and I guess since I don't agree with you, it is just another way of showing that my opinion is not on the same level as others. As you wish. There was significant corruption in the Grant administration, however, under Grant the so-called Radical Republicans managed to push through Reconstruction in the South which was aimed at trying to bring about equality for the enslaved persons who had gained their freedom in the war. Those Repbulicans were harsh toward the white southerners but their ideals and their desire to give the newly freed former slaves the rights they were entitled to. Reconstruction had many flaws and as you know, did not achieve what it has set out to, but the ideals were genuine and staunchly put forward by many in the House and Senate. Again, Grant did not represent the entire party. - Reply to this comment
- Bush is RIGHT! Invading Iraq was NOT a mistake. It was very deliberate, intentional, and it was based on LIES.
Fake intelligence sources, fake WMDs, fake Aluminum tubes, fake uranium from Niger, fake Al Queada links to Saddam, fake mobile Bio Labs. ALL LIES, ALL INTENTIONAL, NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT.
Now if CBS would just DO ITS JOB and CONFRONT this SOB, Facsist, neer-do-well frat-boy-cheerleader, draft-dodger, chicken-hawk, wanna-be-a-War-President with the FACTS... - Reply to this comment

- Since your party doesn't stand for anything other than GREED, why not face the facts that the Republicon Party is no more than a regional party that only represents the original Confederate States. May I suggest the old confederacy secede from America?

I see we need to brush up a bit on our American history. The "red" states include a wide array, those that were Confederate, those that were Union, and those that didnt exist in the nineteenth century. Hmm, I was not aware that New England and California (and yes a few other states around the Great Lakes and in the Northeast) suddenly were the only legitimate areas of the US. It is too bad that you feel compelled to paint all Republicans with one brush. Just because many of us support the President does not make us evil. Just as Democrats, Independents etc. Republicans are factory workers, teachers, ministers, doctors, police, custodians, etc. We have families, we work to better our communities, and believe it or not, many of us are hard-working middle class or working class folk who live pay check to pay check and have known nights were there is not enough food or no food on the table. There are a lot of red jerks just like there are a lot of blue jerks, but it is not fair to lump us all together or to define our party so monolithically - Reply to this comment

- Bush looks good, doesn't he. He's all rested, looks like he's been working out. He's got the mountain bike, and the trails at Camp David are great, its a big place, real nice scenery, it was a warm day.
Bush is looking great in the photo, fit, healthy, happy, looking like he's having a great time out there at Camp David. I'm glad things are going really well for Bush, glad he's finding the time to get some mountain biking done. His schedule has been busy this year, only a month or two of vacation, shucks that aint much for a rich boy. At least he gets to work out at Camp David most days of the week, doesn't have to stay in Washington with all those government types and all their talk about policy and war and all that stuff.
Bet he gets a lot of praying in out there at Camp David, brings in some preachers, does some praying, has a nice healthy dinner, maybe a quick trail ride after dinner.
He's a great guy, glad he's having a great time. - Reply to this comment

- I see that all reamining Bush supporters still buy into Iraq as the cause of 9/11, and Iraq is the hotbed of international terrorism, and that Iraq is a threat to the USA. So please tell me cons, what is it that Republicon Party stands for these days? Clearly you're all delusional now that your in the purist form of fascism. Since your party doesn't stand for anything other than GREED, why not face the facts that the Republicon Party is no more than a regional party that only represents the original Confederate States. May I suggest the old confederacy secede from America?

- There are many of us out here that agree with President Bush. We cannot cut and run from the terrorists. If we did they would follow us back home. We need to stay on the offensive. Rellybinx
DUDE, IRAQ had NOTHING to do with 9/11,WMD OR terrorists, how many times does it need to be said? how many of Bush's own commitee reports do you need to read stating those as FACTS??
The invasion of Iraq was a FARCE, it continues to be a farce and obsession of an idiot who is bound and determined to get us into WW3 as soon as he can.
He refuses to listen to ANYONE, it's time to IMPEECH THIS JACKASS,this is the idiocy you get with the religious RIGHT voting in a christian right wing nut. - Reply to this comment

democrats block the 20K troops it will show how weak they are on the terrorists. That number isn't even the total number of cops in New York
city! - Reply to this comment

Except he did so without being prompted by the United Nations, who didn't want to go down that route.
At the time, there was a question of legality about Bush's actions - but of course, the UN is a mostly toothless tiger (ironically, due to leaders of countries that bully and ignore them - leaders just like GW Bush). - Reply to this comment
