For some reason the crimes commited by legal immigrants are practically ignored while this IIRA is bieng blown out of proportion. NO one has mentioned the series of rapes that have been committed in the Luzerne county and its surrounding areas BY WHITE MEN!!! Or the Drug bust that led to the arrest of over seven LEGAL CITIZENS selling Crack cocaine two days ago, or the WHITE MAN who SHOT A NINE YEAR OLD BOY!!!! The fact is that saying that the crimes in Hazleton are all due to illegal alien is much more than an exaggeration it is ignoring the fact that it has nothing to do with bieng legal or illegal. Residents of Hazleton are more than aware that Hazleton has been known as the "heroine highway" for over twenty years before the influx of diverse peoples. And by the way Illegal Aliens working in factories under someone elses social DO PAY TAXES!!! THE TAXES ARE TAKEN OUT OF THERE PAYCHECKS JUST LIKE ANYONE ELSE EXCEPT THEY CAN NOT GET IT BACK AT THE END OF THE YEAR!!! If people are going to comment they should really know what they are talking about. and By the way everything I stated is a proven fact I have participated in various sociological studies conducted in the Hazleton area which have brought us to the conclusion that the numbers are wrong and that Hazleton has many more problems that are bieng ignored.

I wish my city my city would adopt the same policies. Concerning your interview of the young lady who is an illegal and moved, I wish you had asked her one more question: "How much did you pay in income taxes last year?"
Any person who has been a victim of a crime by an illegal alien should file sue against the US Govt. We pay for them to do their job yet they don't. Perhaps if enough lawsuits are filed, they will get moving on this issue.

I wonder why 60-Minutes didn't do a story about all of the innocent, legal, US citizens who have been raped and/or murdered by illegals. They could have also included the number of illegals caught drinking and driving each year, and the number of people that they have killed through drunk driving.

They could also talk about how many have been caught selling drugs, molesting children, etc. These are all crimes that could have been avoided, as the illegals did/do not belong in our country.

Perhaps all of the legal, US citizens who have become victims of crime due to the illegal invasion should file a class action suit against Bush and our government.

You know, that is weird about the Army site. A coworker of mine enlisted in the Army while she was still a citizen of Germany. She did her 3-4 years (whatever it is)awhile back. However, she is still not a citizen of the US. She is eligible-- works, pays taxes, etc--American through and through--but never applied for citizenship as of yet. I'm sure that she probably has now though, with everything going on.

Aceite: It's true that America like most nations has its share of home-grown criminals, BUT that is exactly why we don't need to import, retain, accept or harbor one single criminal illegal alien. Every crime committed by an illegal alien is completely preventable if they simply weren't here. HAzelton's recent string of murders, (which it d/n have for 20 years or so ,all were committed by illegal aliens). The recent high profile drug arrests were all committed by illegal aliens. A few hours after the Hazelton Immigration ordinances were signed, the FBI and local law enforcement arrested illegal aliens involved in drug trafficking at a nearby playground. While illegal aliens are only 5% of our population in general, they make up 30% of our federal prison population. It's amazing that it's come to this. We've been so stupid. These people have to go home. I mean, can you imagine just deciding for instance, that health care costs too much so you're just going go to Canada and sign up for their health care. How long do you think that would last.

To jonischurr: You have got to be kidding......there were no immigration laws when this country was founded: But once they were in place, people were expected to comply, come through Ellis Island and become citizens. Look at the Ellis Island Foundation website and see how many people complied. To enter this country illegally is just that.......illegal and breaking the law. I really don't care if they just want to work...we have legal means for that to happen. Get real and either support the law or work to change it but good luck with that.....most of us don't feel like paying a lawbreakers bills for school, medical and the rest.

Your comments about racism and the deep-south are pathetic and predictable. Maybe instead of race baiting, why don't you rationally argue your position as to why it is OK for millions of foreign nationals to flow into our country unimpeded, unchecked, and unlawfully?

To take my point further, the UK is dealing with its own illegal immigration problem (albeit on a smaller scale). However, the primary source of their illegal aliens is Eastern Europe -- countries such as Poland and Belarus. They are currently getting tough on the problem and (I just read this in an article on the BBC today) are instituting policies such as encouraging the public to report suspected illegals. So, you tell me. Is this racism? Lucky for them they can crack down on the problem without the shrill cries of "racism" from the PC police because their aliens happen to be white.

Actually, I do not think that they have to be legal citizens in order to join our military. I believe that if they join the military and receive an honorable discharge after the 3-4 year enlistment (whichever it is), they are given an expedited path to citizenship for themselves and their family. I believe that this is fair and they deserve the citizenship if they do serve in our military. I believe that if the soldier dies during his enlistment, his/her family will still receive citizenship.

I am an example of what somebody called a foreigner being given a shot at the American dream, and I did it all legally and by the books. jonischurr, I don't know where you live, but I'm appalled at the rapidity of the illegal invasion into regions of America I never dared to think, would become so densly populated with the invaders as quickly as they have. The city I live in, not unlike Hazelton, is going bankrupt.
