- I don't understand why this case has gone as far as it has. There is no DNA evidence, the line up was not legit, the other dancer is saying that nothing happened. Helllloooo?

- amwprof1, your comment is perfect. The people of that community need to recognize the harm this man is doing and take care of business on election day.

- I was shocked by the whole story. It's really sad that this has been exploited. If they hadn't been wealthy white boys raping a black girl, it probably wouldn't have made the headlines. If they had been black boys raping a white girl, they'd already be in jail.
This DA has obviously made the decision that his job is more important than the lives of any of the players, Duke University, or the criminal justice system. This whole incident reeks of misconduct and corruption.
Maybe there's a little bit of good in the long run. The next time I serve on a jury, I will be far more likely to believe the defendent and far more suspicious of the prosecutor. I used to believe that the prosecutor wouldn't have gone to trial unless he/she were exteremely confident that the defendent(s) were guilty.
This whole situation is so sad for everyone. - Reply to this comment
- I have followed this case on and off since the beginning, particularly because I find it bizarre that this is happening in THIS country, in THIS day and age. Consistently, we hear the DA being described as having "run wild" or "run amok". He has to be one of the most disgustingly dishonest and vulgar humans to walk this earth. He was appointed over an obviously more qualified female attorney and has broken every rule of decency to remain in office by pandering to the fears and prejudices of the African American voter group. If these voters choose to allow this man to continue in office, don't they know that they have given him the right to go after them or theirs in the same lawless manner? Shame on the governor for making this appointment, and shame on the people of Durham, the leadership at Duke and the governor who appointed this very shrewd nutcase. I would NEVER consider Duke as a choice for my children nor anyone that I would encounter.

- Colin Finnerty never beat the *** out of the man. He actually never touched him, one of his friends did - that was established in court. No one thought anyone was gay, they used the word "gay" the way many kids do today. Kids say "you"re gay", "that's so gay", etc. You might not approve of that, but it is a commonly used expression, and doesn't mean someone is homophobic. By the way, the conviction will be removed from his record if he does the community service and stays out of trouble. In addition, how many first time offenders are confronted by multiple ADA's to handle a simple assault case. Furthermore, he was banned from G-town. With the crime statistics in the D.C., I would love to know how many people have been banned from G-town for drinking and having an argument outside a bar. Somehow, I think Finnerty is the only one. The punishment definitely didn't fit the "crime". No wonder Finnerty is frightened of the results of a Durham trial.

- Katieh,
I'm glad that even if Colin Finnerty is exonerated, that he at least has suffered the consequences for his assault on a man in Washington, DC. In this case, he was drunk and accused this man of being a homosexual before he beat the *** out of him. This fellow Finnerty, was given probation and was probably going to have the case thrown out due it being his first offense. Because of the rape scandal, the prosecution decided to move forward and indicted him on assault. He deserves that this conviction will follow him for the rest of his life. If you're smart, I'd recommend you walk the other way if you see him at night especially if he's drunk. - Reply to this comment
- is anybody surprised at the events in this case? unfortunatly, minorities have been the targets of this type of abuse for quite some time. now it appears that anybody is fair game. jurors have to learn is that it is beyone reasonable doubt! from what i saw, i would have to let these guys go. the other problem is that these prosecutors fail to let go of a case when the evidence is in question. if they don't have a case let it go. investigate more! that's how you do it. but the abuse will continue on u.s. citizens with the military commissions act of 2006 that passed in the house and senate last week. read it and weep!

- Dear Mr. Ed Bradley,
You followed the brave example of Edward R. Murrow and have now become a hero for standing up for deeper convictions about right and wrong. CBS has a great history, and your shining example should be right at the top.
Good night, and good luck! - Reply to this comment
- "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere" -Martine Luther King
If we don't stand up for this injustice in Durham
it will happen over again.
Professor Coleman from Duke was right when he said if this is allowed to happen to these young men, what will happen to poor black young men.
I would like to add what would happen if these
were poor whites or middle class black and white
without financial resources to fight.
This is about injustice for ALL.
Rich or poor, black or white. - Reply to this comment
- I am appalled at the actions of Nifong. I work for, and love, this great institution and I don't think there is a shred of credible evidence against these three young men. There is a mountain of "reasonable" doubt against the accusor starting back when she tried to pull this prank some 10 years ago. Nothing came of that time, but I fear, even being proven innocent, will follow these young fellows for the rest of their lives. By the way, I didn't think we had to "prove innocense" in our legal system. That's as much a crock as this whole case is.

- BTW, Sunkist, I've been attacking ARGUMENTS, not people. It's YOU (because you have so support for your ARGUMENT) that started the whole "attack the man" (ad hominem) arguments.
Whatever, little man!
Oh, I believe you were guilty too, you just escaped justice that is all. Happens all the time, afterall OJ was a guilty man framed by DNA claims. I guess we have to wait for the prosecution to deliver their case. - Reply to this comment
- Just because blacks have been unfairly accused in the past, doesn't make it right to unfairly accuse whites. Right is right and this is very wrong. Posted by observing1 at 07:20 AM : Oct 17, 2006
Blacks being falsely accused in not in the past, nor is the rapes of Black Women by white males is in the past. - Reply to this comment
- Congratulations to 60 Minutes on a fine piece. It has continued to amaze me that the DNA evidence or lack thereof did not derail this case. If she was violated anally, vaginally and orally, why is there no DNA anywhere on her, since according to her story no condoms were used. The only evidence that I can find is her story. She could not identify the players involved, her story is not confirmed by the other dancer. I believe it was three black basketball players being accused by a white dancer (who never lost any time from her pole dancing job), Jesse Jackson, et al, would have been unrelentless in the pressure to drop the case...and it probably would have. Just because blacks have been unfairly accused in the past, doesn't make it right to unfairly accuse whites. Right is right and this is very wrong.

- So Ed Bradley will you help me I have all transcript of the case Judge for yourself and then the truth will set me free. Amen Ps where do I send Transcript to ? (Please Somebody Help me). :( Posted by Afordlove at 10:23 PM : Oct 16, 2006
As a Black man, you should already know the answer to that, Ed Bradley, no CBS or any of these people on here claiming these boys are so innocence, could care less the amount of Black men falsely accused or who had DNA reversal cases after spending 10,15,20 years in jail because some white woman accused them and I shutter to think how many have been executed on bogus testimony as well.
When that Aruba teenager went missing, big media coverage, yet Black Women missing-no coverage. JonBet Ramsey case-big coverage, Black 5 year old child beheaded in St. Louis no coverage.
So you can forget about any help from the media or some public denouncing of crimes against Black America.
They are not interested in the victimization and persecution of Blacks on the daily.
You need to find a lawyer and sue for slander and defamation of character, if this person lied that is the easiest way for the truth to come out. - Reply to this comment
- It's a great concern of mine when your Falsely Accuse of something you did not do. I was Falsely Accuse of Sexual Harassment by a (Amtrak) Co Worker while in Chicago and I am fighting to clear my name now. I have lost everything but my faith and hope that I can recieve some attention like the Duke Case. Yes I am a male(Black)and it bother me that some women can use this without any evidence. I believe that anyone who does this should go straight to jail. I think of all my brother who have lost their lives because of a lie like this or who still sit in jail because like me we can't afford a big time Lawyer (Probono)You can find part of my story on Congress.org but it should be Food Catering Co not Ford. So Ed Bradley will you help me I have all transcript of the case Judge for yourself and then the truth will set me free. Amen Ps where do I send Transcript to ? (Please Somebody Help me). :(

- Yours is a typical tactic of those with no support for their argument. Attack the person ("ad hominem" as I'm sure you have no clue what that means), not the argument made. You have no evidence, so you say I must be "impotent" or whatever. As I said, have fun with that. Posted by kevinsbailey at 06:33 PM : Oct 16, 2006
And you are typical of a defeated person, who have done nothing but name call all day, and yet one tiny weanie (no pun intended), slur in your direction and you are offended.
If you cannot take it, then don't dish it out! - Reply to this comment
- There needs to be a federal and state investigation in to the Duke rape case, to include prosecutor, and police. I have seen these type of tactic by law enforcement in third world country.
I agree! Bring in the feds after all spraying racial slurs on Black frat and soro houses is a federal offense and these boys should have been arrested for that, so with any luck we can get them convicted of a host of crimes, Duke University sued for covering up illegal activity and possible have these boys indicted for the disappearance of Jim Hoffa.
Good ideal, bring in the feds, then if they are not guilty of rape, they are most certainly guilty of a host of racial charged vandalism, you do know those are federal charges.
You should be their lawyer! - Reply to this comment
- all of you enlightened citizens don't believe it,just read the military commissions act of 2006 that was passed by the house and senate last week. then be afraid be very afraid!
That military commission act is for "war on terrorists", which includes that other minority group that you are expecting all Americans to care about. Perhaps, becoming a group that has been railroad for quite some time, should make one care about justice irregardless to color, race, religion and ethnic group.
Seems to me, you could care less up until that military act, which is more based on "hunting terrorists"
Sorry two different issues! - Reply to this comment
- it has been happening to minorities for some time now. but these days everyone is fair game.
So for some reason it is okay for "minorities" to get railroad, but now that "everyone is fair game". We should be outraged! Perhaps this is why this is a racial incident as well as a violent attack.
You seem to object to all the others being railroaded!
What a crock! - Reply to this comment
