- It is always good to have such guardians of the traditions of the Orthodox religion as the monks of Mt Athos. Most of such monasteries are also the guardians of the Byzantine traditions and holy objects that make them unique. I have twice visited the Vatopedi Monastery where I felt that I was elavated above the human sphere. God bless all those around the world who guard such traditions and keep the faith alive.

- I watched the interview on CBS Morning Show with the journalist who covered the story. I couldn't help but cringe every time he referred to my faith as "Greek Orthodox Religion". The Orthodox Church is global, not just some exotic form of ancient Christianity you find only in Greece. Mt. Athos also has sprinklings of communities established by Romanian, Bulgarian, Russian, Serbian and other cultures/countries who share the SAME faith... Orthodox is Orthodox. You will find services available in these languages too... not just in Greek. The language that is used liturgically is why you see "Welcome to the *insert language* Orthodox Church". It is a signal as to who's jurisdiction/Patriarch the church is under and the general population of the community you will find. The original Greek communities on Mt. Athos are becoming multilingual as a response to monks coming to live this angelic life from other countries. I do hope when the piece airs, this fact will be part of the story vs. a showcase for Greek Nationalism. The Greeks have the best PR team of all of the Orthodox countries/jurisdictions, so get the most press. There are LOTS of fabulous Orthodox Monasteries here in the U.S. (many convert based and services in English)! The Orthodox Church is becoming one of the fastest growing Christian denominations here in the U.S. Do a piece on that!
