- coucou,
WOW..!!
c'est feérique, c'est dommage que certains ont le privilége d'en profiter, d'autres non, ces trésors appartiennent aux peuples,
les chrétiens à travers le monde ont le droit de visiter, les jeunes générations surtout.
merci pour cette visite
........
it's magical, it is unfortunate that some have the privilege to enjoy, others do not, these treasures belong to the people
Christians around the world have the right to visit, especially the younger generations.
they are aware of the values ??of these treasures, they will take care
thank you for this visit - Reply to this comment
- Thank you for this episode. It was much better than I had expected from CBS, I admit. It didn't address a couple points though:
Something that should have been mentioned--and which may clarify concerns in these comments--is that the library is opened to about 5000 scholars each year. Obviously it couldn't be opened to everyone with such priceless treasures. And it was closed for renovations for three years and just opened last summer. For those concerned about climate control and cataloging, do a google search for "vatican library reopens" to find articles about the renovations. - Reply to this comment
- Dear 60 Minutes, I enjoyed this story. Well done. I have never visited the Vatican Library, but hope to. Undoubtedly, that library is a world treasure, but not the only one. Other, unheralded libraries hold incalculable treasures that are totally unknown. It is impossible to know completely the contents of a large manuscript collection until centuries have elapsed. It takes eons to coax out the last secrets. Yes, it may be that--in the US--elementary school students no longer learn 'cursive'. Meanwhile, manuscript studies are the last frontier. Scholars, arise. - Dear 60 Minutes, The Vatican Library is undoubtedly a world treasure. I have never visited, but hope to. There are other wonderful manuscript collections, however, and countless new discoveries to be made. Simply stated, we do not know exactly what the libraries hold because the manuscripts have not been carefully scrutinized. It may be that grade school students in the US are no longer learning 'cursive'. Meanwhile, manuscript studies are the last frontier for those seeking something new under the sun. Scholars, arise. - I (and any other librarian watching this) have many questions about how this collection is being managed. Is there any attempt to catalog the collection and/or digitize it? Please tell us more! I am amazed that documents this old would still be intact. Who is advising the Vatican on preservation techniques?

- One can only guess if all the "treasure" and depository of TRUTH from which much of Western orthodoxy originated or would have survived if 200 years ago we had the internet, the blogs, and Fox news, as we do today!
Man lives by myth. The questions is, how will future generations interpret the myths of today, given that human nature is constant! - Reply to this comment
- I would like to watch the video... But I am disgusted by the fact that you force me to watch commercial instead... C'mon, I am interested in the library, not your damn viagra.

- A rich man asked Jesus what he must do to enter into heaven. Jesus replied that the man would have to sell what he had and give the proceeds to the poor. The man walked away.
It looks like that no one in the Vatican is going to make it to heaven.
