- I would like to admire Mr. Ahmedinizhad as well, but I can't. All he has to do is appear reasonable to draw the rest of the world to his side, meanwhile inserting strategic anti-Zionist rhetoric in his speeches. I think Hugo Chavez is honest, and I hope he realizes who he is dealing with in the Iranian leader.

- Correction: Persians don't want to kill anyone! If anyone ever travels to Iran, they will notice that Iranians are very friendly and the first thing hey want to do, is feed you! ( Italians should relate here)
Arabs attacked Iran. Iran never attacked any Arabs even during the militarily strong Shah's regime. Also remeber, when the Arabs used chemical weapons on us, we did not respond in kind. - Reply to this comment
- What you are not asking is: Who benefits? The controllers of the US government want a world war. The Israelis want a Greater Israel. Both the Persians and the Zionists want to kill Arabs. Looks like a perfect confluence of interests to me.

- Russian Jew,
Look, I live in iran and let me tell you something. People in Iran don't hate Jews. Acually we could care less. Please read my comments below. There is no love lost between Iranians and Arabs. Not to be rude, but 99% of people in iran have so much more to worry about such as food on the table, that they could care less about Israelis or Arabs.
Israel is not going anywhere and it is well understood: The first country to use a nuke, loses. Understand your enemy and you will realize there s a lot of bark and no bite. - Reply to this comment
- We don't have enough enemies, haters, and liers inside our country. Just name a few: "60 minutes" New York Times", "Los Angeles Times", etc. You, guys, have to bring more of the kind, and give them opportunity to express themselves on out television, you let them twist historical facts, and laugh at us. And who's the chosen one to interview this monster? Mike Wallace, jew himself, didn't have any problem to be in the same room with the person who repeatedly threaten to wipe Israel from the face of Earth.
Shame on you, Mike Wallace. Too bad, Hitler is dead, so you can't interview him. You have to work very hard now on your already tainted image to insure not to end up in hell. - Reply to this comment
- All of you people need to wake up! The Iranian revolution was an accomplishment of the CIA. Ahmedinijad is most likely an agent. This entire conflict is *staged*.
Until recently, the Hizbollah website was hosted by a *US GOVERNMENT CONTRACTOR*. It was partially owned by a Saudi (rather suspicious there - why would a Shi'a organization seek out an ISP in the stronghold of Sunni Islam?) and, while I was unable to completely untangle the pertinent SEC documents, there is significant US ownership. Moreover the US office was in Virginia close to CIA headquarters. Since somebody spotted this and publicized it, nasrollah.org has changed its hosting.
They're playing you like a fiddle. - Reply to this comment
- Could we please have more interviews with people we never hear about except in derogatory terms. For example, could you arrange interviews with the leaders of Hezbollah and Syria. It is about time we heard their viewpoint in their own words

I completely agree but unfortunately we live in a society where most people act as if they are remotely operated :( - Reply to this comment

- Rezaz,
You sir, may not hate Arabs. And perhaps hate is a strong term. But if you are an Iranian, as you say, then do you deny the fact that most people in Iran, regardless of past glory mentality, do indeed regard them poorly? Do you deny the fact that the memory of the 8 year war and our loved ones who perished, still lives in the minds of the majority of Iranians?
Perhaps the correct thing to do IS to not have that attitude, but dammit, they did support Sadam and watched us die. I think we need to focus inward and clean up our house before we worry about Arabs who could care less about Iran.
Reminder: As soon as Sadam started firing skuds into israel, the very same Palestinians that you seem to love, started carrying his picture and had their children do the same. These people forgot, in 1 blink, all the atrocities he comitted against Iranians and were ready to go to bed with him because he suited their purpose at that particular time. Our murderer became their hero.
Arabs do NOT deserve our money, support or compassion...At least in my humble opinion, and many many other Iranians. - Reply to this comment
- well as an american, the interview was not slanted. The interview provided an insight into the mind of the iranian people. THEY WANT WAR AND WANT THE BOMB!
So, if they even THINK of trying to eliminate the jewish state (hinted at by the iranian prez that a BIG attack will happen on august 22nd) Then I hope that the jews bomb these ********** back to the stone age where they belong! they started this so its TIME TO FINISH IT!
let freedom ring and make the middle east a glass slate so we dont have to worry about terrorists anymore. NUKE EM ALL!!!! - Reply to this comment
- I am an Iranian too and ashamed of those who say we hate Arabs. These people are ignorant and not familiar with the country and the history of the area. Arabs did attack Iran so as Alexander the Great, the Mongols, Turks, English, Russians, etc and the list goes on. Unfortunately many of us live with the past glory of the Persian Emprire and don't want to move on. Those who are familiar with the Islamic History and civilization know about the great contribution that Islamic world and Arabs have done to the modern Western civilization. There are many books written by Europeans about the effect of that era on Western science and they way it helped Europe to rise above others. Iran was part of it so as Arabs. Attacking Arabs, Turks or Muslims for the problems of Iran is wrong and stupid.

- Mikes approach was typical of a mainstream Western journalist with bias views on Iran & its leaders. A mentality that sees Western/American values as more superior to all of others. He seemed surprised at the suggestion that the US was hostile to Iran. Lets remind him (search Google): CIA involvement in 1953 military coup toppling a nationalist Gov and replacing it with Iran%u2019s dictator the %u201CShah%u201D! Huge Militarily support of the Shah during his reign and in clamping down on his pro-democracy/freedom opponents in Iran; thousands killed by the security forces in those years. The US use of its embassy in Tehran to coordinate anti-revolutionary activities among oppositions in order to topple the regime hence the US Embassy hostage crises. Backing Sadam Hussein in the war against Iran which resulted in ONE million deaths (support included information, arms and chemicals which were used against Iranian soldiers for 8 years!). 5000 Kurds were also killed in Iraq by chemicals but the US did nothing and carried on supporting him until he turned against the Oil rich Kuwait. US unconditional support of Israel and its activities against Iran including the kidnapping of 5 diplomats in early 80s before Iran became the main backer of Hezbollah. The list goes on%u2026.. Even now in every sentence, the US government attacks Iran. And why? Because Iran, unlike other puppet regimes in the area, stands up to US aggression aimed at controlling the resources of the area and supporting Israel.

- Dude, I AM an iranian and I Do live in Iran. let me explain something to everyone here. In Iran, we HATE Arabs. You should hear the way people talk about Arabs. We hate them because they destroyed our civilization, raped our women and forced their backward religion down our throats. We hate them because NOT ONE single ARAB complained when Sadam dropped chemical weapns on our sons and daughters for 8 years. So don't even try. We are NOT brothers. We despise Arabs.

- to dara_va_sara,
you have been totally brainwashed by americans. I'm not iranian, but I know that you're country is the islamic republic.. all muslims are obligated to help their brothers.. that's what our religion is based on (muslims are brothers and have to support each other).. thats what ahmadinejad is doing.. he is not helping terrorists.. he is helping lebanon to be cleared from the zionist terrorists, he has nothing against jews, but zionist don't want to live in peace!!
if arab nations failed to help arabic country, iran didn't fail.
BTW, you should call yourself American-American,, you don't deserve the iranian nationality !! - Reply to this comment
- This is in support of what behradpit wrote.
As an American-Iranian, I want to know how is this any of our business that Israel is occupying lands that once belong to Arabs, Israel is there to stay, and they will no go away, and everybody have to just accept it. As Iranians/Persians we should worry about our own problems, starting with these fanatics, these Islamic fascists that had taken control over our country for over 20 years. Iran had gained nothing and will never gain any thing by spending our oil money for political reasons and power to help Palestinians and Arabs against Israel and America. We should instead stop this none sense and be a reliable ally to America in the region as the result of which we would have America%u2019s protection and financial help to build a peaceful country for ourselves and for future generations to come. This none sense of Anti-American policies orchestrated by the Islamic fascists had only brought war, death and destructions to Iran. So we need America%u2019s help now by peaceful and financial means to ignite a change from within. Helping the Iranian people to bring these fanatics off the power would be greatly beneficial for the west and especially for Iranian people desperately wishing for freedom, peace, pride and prosperity. - Reply to this comment

- "To Yashmak: Actually, those documents about Bush's "service" may well not have been falsified; but even so, Bush could not be found during those periods of time." - Yasmin
Incorrect. The documents Rather cited were demonstrably forged, using typeface not even available when they were supposedly penned. Of course, NPR, the Chronicle, NYTimes, WaPo, all conveniently glossed over that FACT.
Of course, neither that, or your reply to my post has anything to do with the topic we're discussing now. - Reply to this comment
- I found the President of Iran to be down to earth , positive minded, sensible, a person whose been given a bad rap.
He makes more sense than George W Bush does. I like him better too.
I too thought that nuclear bombs were of the past until Bush brought the whole nightmare back again.
Bush bashing this Iranian leader is same tactic on Iraq. Also used against opponents in election campaigns.
Bush is a liar. Those who lie assume everyone else lies too.
Bush perception is not truth and no one knows the future. To actually wage a war on a perceived notion as if it were a reality is an act of insanity.
Bush refuses to communicate with those he feels are beneath him due to their evil. So in his goodness he would prefer to drop bombs on their countries and kill innocents.
He is not looking for peace and through the process of communication this would become obvious to everyone and then he wouldn't be allowed to blow up his frogs.
The Mideast problem can be worked out if the Jewish leaders would mind their boundaries and work with their neighbors instead of treating them like dogs and keeping them down. They attempt to drive a point that this started July 12 out of the blue while they were "just minding our own business"
Oh AS IF.
Like George Bush the Jewish leaders should realize that freedom does have boundaries. - Reply to this comment
- I have always enjoyed Mike Wallace's interviews as the prime cut of 60 Minutes programs. The interview with Ahmadinejad was a rare moment where dropped everything and made sure I was tuned in, after telling everyone I knew to do the same. I don't know how many others came away with similar impressions, but I can tell you there were several surprises for me, including:
1) disappointment at Mike's ability to engage Ahmadinejad effectively (one of the rare times he was bested during an interview). At our house we agreed that Chris Matthews would have done a far superior job at providing provacative questions and, perhaps more importantly, following up on Ahmadinejad's comments with additional probing questions that were begging to be asked, but never were.
2) astonishment that this man, who we have been led to believe was just a "crazy man" in the media, could sit down and hold his own with Mike and speak in a calm, almost reassuring manner, while expressing himself so articulately. I had never been aware, until this program aired, that Ahmadinejad had such a broad educational background outside his country and depth of experience within his country. The scary realization is that the president of Iran may completely outmatch our own president intellectually. His statements reveal a carefully thought out analysis of the US role in the Middle East, as well as an equally thought out strategy for confronting that role.
