- Yes, you did miss something, this is not a "story," this really happened. Super cops are only on TV shows. Real police officers are only flesh and blood like the rest of us and she was of duty. And very brave, she stood up to take the place of the other lady, she thought they were going to rape them. In "real life," women have sacrificed themselves to spare another women such an outrage. Even rapists have admitted the courage of women they have kidnapped with the intention of raping them and have accepted the sacrifice and spared the other. We had a "reformed" rapist interviewed on TV describing his and he fellow rapists crime and "admiration" of the one girl protecting the other. But they still raped the brave girl. In this case they killed a mother in her Grandmothers home, with her boys in the house and tried to kill the other two.
LIfe in prison without parole is the right sentence baring the death penalty. - Reply to this comment
- A very brave woman, and what a beautiful, strong family. May the lady rest in peace.
As for the abominable criminals concerned, I am struggling to understand why they did not get the death penalty (is it that the state where the case was tried doesn't have capital punishment? I'm not American, so I will have to google, I suppose). There are no excuses at all for their actions, and the police officer acted perfectly reasonably, and with great courage. This has nothing to do with race or hard upbringing or gender, and everything to do with the evil and venality of these specimens. I have lived with really dirt-poor people in Ghana, West Africa, who were as honest, hardworking and unassuming as the day is long.
We're all tired of such sorry excuses for human beings, and I only wish that the UK justice system were as forthright as the US one sometimes, for all its faults. Crime in western societies is becoming a very big issue, and there needs to be a lot of new thinking and action on it. - Reply to this comment
- This is one of the most pathetic excuses for a story I have ever seen. If this woman was a trained cop, why did she let armed men into a house with women and children??? Her logic in not giving them the keys to the car because she had a gun in there is ridiculous considering they both already had guns. If they told the one woman to carry a tv down the stairs it would appear to me that they were only interested in robbing, not KILLING. Again, why a trained police officer would risk lunging at one of the robbers to disarm him with all those people in the room is beyond me. If she had made such decisions while on duty she probably would have been reprimanded, but somehow now she is a hero?? CBS you seriously can do better than this. I am not the paranoid or overly suspicious type, but programming like this almost seems like an excuse to show black on white crime.

- I think it was wrong to give the 16 year old a life sentence - I cannot believe that the jury did not think that he was an impressionable child when he committed those acts. And sentencing without parole is a crime in itself that the jury and society has committed.
We are told about the smile that came to young Sam's face when he heard the sentence - what about Ledale? He was a child too who does not even get a chance to redeem himself. A sad day. - Reply to this comment
- If the couple was held up on the street, why did they let these armed men into the house with several more sleeping, helpless victims?
You're in a public place; why would you allow yourself to be taken into a private place where you can be raped and killed more discreetly?
And as for not giving up the handgun in the car, these guys already had two handguns. I don't think letting these guys into the house was worth keeping another gun off the street.
Am I missing part of the story here? I can't imagine a good cop would make these decisions. - Reply to this comment
- Isabella, Nick, and the rest of the family would not be alive if Isabella and Nick hadn't done something. Unfortunately, a life was lost but it could have been much worse.
More reason than ever to support the 2nd Amendment and support "Stand Your Ground" legislation. Why would anyone have to wait for something terrible to happen before they can take preventive measures.
If every criminal knew every responsible citizen was armed, they would think twice about preying on seemingly helpless victims. - Reply to this comment
- I was a Police Officer for over 10 years in Northern CA, and if I had her experience with death, even with some kind of disability, she could still function as a School Resource Officer, major traffic accident investigator, homicide detective, proc. investigator, or private investigator. Hope she can see that there are jobs of still helping people, but in a different enviroment.

- If every person who experienced a "rough upbringing", or a "hard life", were to suddenly start killing people, there'd be no one left alive on the planet.
People who would rather take another's life than take responsibility for their own, have no place in our society.
Ordinarily I'm against the death penalty, but the more stories I read like this, the weaker my resolve against it becomes. - Reply to this comment
- Obama, Holder, Sharpton, Jackson, I'm sure will find time to comfort the families of these poor white folk. Just like they did down in Texas awhile back when another misunderstood black shot a white over achiever and stole her child.
