Yes. Why? Because too many men in this world (regardless of religious beliefs) still think of women as property, no different than the house or car they own.

what this man did to his daughter was sad and pathetic, but it doesn't mean all muslims are bad. This muslim father just went to extreme that's all, some parents do go to far whether their muslim or christian or atheist.

It's obvious to anyone with knowledge about "honor" killings that Noor Almaleki was the victim of one. Had the same crime been committed in almost any area of the Middle East, the odds are that her father would've gotten off with a lesser punishment than that handed to rubber check writers.

At least in America, the punishment is considerably more severe, but I do wonder why the prosecution didn't call any expert witnesses (we do have some here in the U.S.) to explain to jurors what these crimes are, what factors seem to set them off, typical perpetrator patterns, etc. Perhaps with that knowledge, the jurors would've felt more comfortable convicting Noor's father of first-degree murder and sentencing him for life. It would've set a very nice precedent for successive cases.

These people and their religion are whacked. They should not be allowed in our country.

Most of the honor killings in the West go undetected and currently the FBI is still looking for some of the fathers involved when they were detected. Most of these guys vanish into thin air.

Diversity has put situations like this in a tough position. Yeah the guy killed his own daughter and yeah it was an honor killing. This behavior is as commonplace in the Middle East as daily prayer. This is common ground for the male head of household, and yes down the road her boyfriend and his father will face the same fate, most likely it will be a terribly car accident etc. For those of you expressing outrage, I share your anger but as far as changing these types of situations good luck. FYI there are purported to be from 50,000 to 125,000 male Muslims living in the U.S. with more than one wife, so expecting this group to obey constitutional law over religious law, you have to recognize they are united by their religion, the doors to outsiders is closed by silence or I don't know anything about it. The capture of this poor girls dad was good fortune only, he was enroute back to the Middle East and was being supported by those who shared his beliefs where an edict was given which allowed him to proceed legally according to his religion. Remember that in Islam, shariah law allows you to lie to non muslims but not muslims and this man will practice his faith. He will also never share who helped him in his escape from the U.S. and who was going to help him return to the middle east. While he feels terrible for what he did, in his eyes, he did nothing wrong, he was practicing his religion.

If the idiot father didn't want his daughter to be influenced by western culture, he should not have brought his family here from Iraq. She should have gotten her to run over him if he was so 'dishonored'.

Only a Muslim or radical Christian father would want to do something like this. The bottom line is that if they want to get rid of this stupidity of 'honor killings', we are going to have to get rid of religion period.
