- On second thought, if there's nothing kinky in the relationship between step-father and daughter, then I feel very sorry for the victim. Perhaps he was caught with his pants down--literally, like when he was dressing/undressing etc. Not only he had to die a horrible death but also an undignified one. That's so sad.
There're apparently lots of problems in the kids' relationships with their mom. Both said she was a terrible parent. But whatever they suffered, killing the step-father is senseless and tragic--unless he had abused them in some ways unknown at this point. If we can take everything at face value, he had been nothing but decent and kind to these kids. He was an innocent victim! - Reply to this comment
- So senseless and tragic. Ultimately no explanation can justify what happened. In terms of understanding what happened, I am curious why the issue of mom's suicide was glossed over. It may explain why a seemingly normal, happy kid can become so emotionless as the detectives described. Just makes me curious what interventions they received after mom's suicide. A few interesting links:

"Emotional detachment: Emotional detachment is a second symptom of PTSD, which is often not as obvious outwardly to anyone other than the person experiencing it. For these people, their emotional systems are in overdrive. They have a hard time being a loving family member. They avoid activities, places, and people associated with the traumatic event. They are simply drained emotionally and have trouble functioning every day.
A parent who is emotionally detached, or numb, might be unable to cope with raising children.
The children, in turn, may develop poor social relationships, ..They can?t form loving bonds. ."

- I was also disturbed by the victim's attire at the time of his murder. That didn't look like the proper way to dress for lunch with your step daughter! Dress shirt without pants, but with socks on?! Brae said she intended to kill herself in a few months and she had attempted suicide when she was 13. Perhaps she was trying to tell people something? What if the step-dad had had an incestous relationship with her but was calling it off because he had a new girlfriend? That would be motive for murder, and also explained why Brae couldn't bring up incest as sexual abuse for her onw defence because it was consensual. I think there's more to this case than meets the eye.

- Just wondering...Her mother was an alcoholic. With her facial features, is there any chance of Fetal Alcohol?

- Lynn H., I was wondering the same thing on why Tim MacNeil never had his pants on??? There was not one comment about this. There was also no real testimony into what the motive was for this crime. She went on and on about how much she loved her dad, well give me a break, "she just wanted one clean clear shot" to kill him. It gives me the chills to think that a 17 year old girl cooked this murder plot up and just let it happen. There were only tears for herself at the end, two selfish evil people. If it hadn't have been the stepdad that they killed, somebody would have been in the line of fire eventually. The first thing I thought of was incest, but they didn't go there. I really don't think the motive was that the girlfriend was getting too much attention, "unless she was secretly having sex with Tim MacNeil", now that would be a standout motive for this crime. Also the way she indicated when her brother came to the door, "I'm so glad you're here". She is guilty and everyone should breath a sigh of relief that these two evil people are behind bars. And what's with the brother, he is trying to say he is innocent. Well he confessed to the police and it all went down just like he had said. They should rot in jail. And I can't believe the daughter of his first marriage would be so willing to forgive this girl for murdering her father or was she a victim of incest also and that is why she felt like giving her a hug and running over to her, that doesn't add up too much to me. Brae is a very cold calculating individual and very evil for a girl of her age. I hope they get the max for what they did and I think they will.

- My husband and I watched Daddy's Girl last night on 48 Hours Mystery.
Although your show gave us information on what happened, we were still left wondering why the stepfather Tim MacNeil was found without his pants on???? We waited for an answer and never received one. Where was his pants and why were they OFF of his body???
I think your 48 hours team of investigators need to do more research and give more information.
I love this show and watch it every Saturday night when it's on, I'm still wondering about Mr. MacNeil's pants though. - Reply to this comment
- this case also reminded me of Bart Whitaker, the convicted murderer who had his mother and brother killed, also trying to kill his dad and have himself shot in the fake robbery staging murder. it is too bad Brae's mom was abusive to them also, when you don't love kids, they can really bring that hate back, of course there are many stories of abused people who choose the right thing to do, but sometimes it may take jail time to also learn the lessons (and sometimes they are just evil). I don't think Nathan can convince anyone of his innocence with his DNA in a mask in a city he doesn't live in appearing on the night of the murder. And Brae shouldn't have lied on the original 911 call even if she thought her brother might kill her for telling the truth, it does give her some responsibility in the cover up and doesn't give her credibility that she thought up the plan, had money ready, then changed her mind at the last minute, even if she did, it seemed she changed it back when Nathan showed up and tried to cover for the murderer, but Nathan seems more responsible than Brae since he pulled the trigger (it doesn't help to come off as callous though either, for Brae's part).

- This case is eerily similar to a case that happened to my neighbor when I was a young man. My neighbor's son shot him one Sunday morning and my father was involved in subduing the killer who was sentenced to life in prison. When my father testified against him, he said he would kill all of us if he ever had the chance. In the 1980's we learned that he had been released from prison ( so much for the life sentence) and we always had nightmares that he would make good on his threat. These two are just as evil in this case. I truly hope that they will get significant sentences.
