vegasresiden:
Prop 8 really doesn''''t violate any other aspect of the California State Constitution. There''''s not even a valid argument to be made that it does, so it will remain.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Prop 8 has the exact wording of the 2000 law, which the courts found violated the CA Constitution, thus it contains the same violation still.
pastor ed smith of trinity christian center is an uneducated fool. by saying,"It''s not a civil rights issue, because as African-Americans we can''t change the color of our skin," he wrongly implies/believes that homosexuality is a matter of choice. i''m a heterosexual and i am one through no choice of mine. i just am. and i suspect the same condition goes for any homosexual, that there is no choice involved in being one. smith should not be speaking at all, much less preaching his imbecilic view points to an audience in a church. he is a source of frustration to all thinkers.
Personally I think organized religion is a crutch for those that have an inability to take responsibility for their failures and an inability to cope with problems. :-)
At the very most it helps people to feel better than others (i.e. Pharisees)
But if these judges think it should be reversed, one hopes each one of them remembers what happend in LA in 1992. Does the name Rodney King ring a bell? Hey, that court thought they were right too!
that''s a little misleading dont''cha think. the new Heaven and New Earth. Earth is where the Millennial reign will take place for 1000 years. Children will be born on earth not in heaven. again no flesh is allowed in Heaven. God himself and Jesus will be among us on earth during the 1000 year reign. heaven is also referred to as the sky given what text in was used in.
My solution...and it should be one viable to both the Christian conservatives and proponents of gay marriage.
If you find the concept of homosexual marriage an affront to any one religion, my thought would be to abolish the notion of marriage altogether from civil constructs. That is to say marriage should only be defined by religious establishments of your choosing and the state should keep their nose out of it. Why do we need to have the state validate any sort of union and what purpose does it serve?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

the problem with that is that the government must have a definition in order to administer the benefits alloted to married people, such as social security etc.

Probably the same size as the ones after the Courts overturned laws against interracial marriage or forced school segregation.

The courts not only exist to uphold the law, but their exist to protect the rights of the minority from the will of the majority when that will is unjust.

Here''''s the REAL bottom line: The California State Supreme Court will not - cannot - change the State Constitution.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
they can however rule if Prop 8 violates one of the existing core portions of the CA Constitution, thus invalidating Prop 8.
Now let me tell you what I know about the new Heavens and the new Earth.
In a debate with the Sadducees, Jesus tells them that the institution of marriage will be abolished in that time (new H/E). So, no one is getting married anymore.
But previously, in Isaiah is a prophesy that is clearly set in the time of the new Heavens and new Earth (Isaiah 65:17-23). In that passage it tells of women bearing children. Now, unless the Holy Spirit is bangin'' all those chicks, that means we ALL getting'' it!
See what I mean about once you get past the insecurities of being replaced?
Here''s the REAL bottom line: The California State Supreme Court will not - cannot - change the State Constitution. The people have finally spoken on this issue and they have decided that they will not allow a tiny minority to redefine marriage for the rest of us. The State has already provided to domestic partners every legal right afforded to married couples. This will stay the law now until it is changed by the people once again or through the legislature.
This anger should be directed toward the State Supreme Court. They''re the ones who wouldn''t listen when they were told they should set aside their decision until after the election. They''re the ones who put thousands of couples in the position of having their marriages invalidated. They need to fix this mess by immediately providing an easy way for these ''marriages'' to be transitioned to legal domestic partnerships.
But I totally agree with some of the other posters here. You haven''t even BEGUN to see the very real protests that will happen if the State Supreme Court tries overturning this election. So far, we''ve let these pity parties pass by, but trust me there will be hundreds of thousands of people marching in the streets in front of the State Supreme Court if they try to overturn this vote. This time, there won''t be candles and people singing "We Shall Overcome." Remember Los Angeles, circa 1992?
nDid you know that the Mormons believe that you will have an actual body of flesh and bone after this life?
And also that if a man was sealed to more than one wife in his life (which he can do after his wife dies), then he gets both wifes in the Celestial Kingdom.
AND....that they believe that those in the Celestial Kingdom will be gods and goddesses with their own worlds and spirit children.
AND....well you get the point...
Now why are we following what the Mormons think is right?
don''t know much about Mormon beliefs, but i do know that the bible says no flesh shall inter the Kingdom of Heaven for flesh is corrupt and they must put on the incorruptable which is your spirit.
the Mormon Church stopped practicing polygamy not because they felt it was wrong but because part of their main tenants is to follow the law of the land.
If polygamy were allowed again, it would be practiced.
basically the ultimate goal of life is to acheive eternal life and end of your life on earth. your life after death. heaven is the goal here. which you would exist in spiritual form and in a flesh body.
let me correct that. you be in a spiritual form and not a flesh body.
Prop-8 was actually the Mormon revenge for the U. S. outlawing polygamy.
For just a moment, set aside what it is you think you are trying to save me from. Instead, tell me what it is you think you would like to save me *to*?
