Why are people so against law enforcement? Okay - I can think of one time a cop helped me, when I went back to Missouri and made the mistake of pre-paying for gas when local people didn''t do that and the cop got my change back from the cashier. Good cop Now for the bad cops - searched my car twice in 4 days when I went home to visit my parents and ignored a red light runner 3 days later to keep tailing me because I had Cal. plates, so must be a drug dealer. Bro in law robbed by Chicago cops. He''s now a cop. Had my pic taken for riding a bike down the street, a decoy car put in my walking path, spied on when I walked laps around a park and had them drop a bag labelled Medical centered on my driveway while they hid one block down the street and picked it up after I ignored it and drove off. Retired Nuc. Engr. 13 gal. blood donor- references ex SY commander, ex Aircraft carrier commander, Sr. advisor for Nuc. cleanup of Tuwaitha, Iraq, Hawaiian beauty queen. To me cops are mostly a bunch of goons.

Police officers have got to have the proper training with these tasers. They are dangerous, not a "non-lethal" weapon. They basically should not be used in any situation where you wouldn''t use a gun if that is all you had.

Pigott was stupid for ordering a taser to be used on Morales - and he deserved to face the appropriate punishment for making that error in judgement.

Having said that, it is awful that he has committed suicide, so my thoughts go out to all those involved - and especially the families of both Morales and Pigott.

The officer should have waited for the blow up to arrive before he ordered the taser.

Having watched an officer get shot in the gut because he tried to get a mentally ill man to surrender peacefully, I can understand, though not condone, the use of force in this case. Incidentally, the mentally ill man was released from the mental hospital after over a decade. He had horribly murdered a woman with three days of his release.

Where did I say that I had compasion for the officer. I have compasion for the family because they have to deal with his death by suicide. My family has had to deal with it and it isn''t fun. If you think his suicide was a good thing then you are one sick *******. It may have been a way out for him but the people who loved him. That said, I''m not responding to you anymore. Like I said, if Lt. Michael Pigott was any kind of man he would have dedicated the rest of his life to stamping out the use of tasers except in the most extreme citation instead he chose to "cop" out and take his own life and thus compound the tragedy. I can''t believe how we treat the mentally ill in this nation and how gutless cops have become. This man would not have hurt anyone he was crying out for help. I used to respect the police now I am scared to death of them because they are cowards.

I was not particularly referring to an officer being in your family. What I said is that I hope you never have to deal with a "suicide" in your family. But then again, with your frozen heart, you probably wouldn''''t care anyway!

Lt had a conscience which is more than I can say for most of the primitive murderous savages who post on these forums.

I wish he would of got into counseling and got his head put on straight. With that kind of introspection and ability maybe he could have taught the Taser classes and really make an impact on quick draw rookies.

He could have also directed that self hate energy into learning how to deal with mentally disturbed people and train that too. He would be a very dedicated teacher rather than someone who just wants to pick up a paycheck and bust heads.

Kinda reminds me of the story where a suicidal man had a knife and was threatening to kill himself.

One of the cops who responded to the situation and shot the man in the back, spinal cord massive damage.

Reminded me of blazing saddles, less humor.

strangely ... this method of justice was actually used in the middle ages and was known as ''trial by ordeal''. there were many variations. tying a large stone to the suspect and tossing them into deep water was one ... making the suspcect reach into a cauldron of boiling water to extract a rock at the bottom of the cauldron was another.

the idea was that if you were innocent god would protect you from the ordeal and you would survive/heal. if you were guilty god wouldn''t intervene ... and you would die.
