Comments on: Dogs Killed In Raid On Mayor's Home
Maryland Home Was Apparently Target Of Pot Smuggling Scheme; Police Conduct Questioned

Death is a tragedy or a triumph depending on the circumstances. When an attacker threatens your life and is killed for it then the aspect of tragedy must be set aside. It is wholly appropriate and human that we should feel a sense of vindication when one who threatens our lives and liberty is put down. - Reply to this comment
- Here is one white, middle class, conservative taxpayer who cheers every time a pig gets offed!!!

This is one white American that hates to hear of someone being ''killed''. Time will claim us all so why cheat anybody out of life. Most Cops that are ''offed'' as you say are probably the only good ones around. that leaves us with the bad ones to deal with. - Reply to this comment

- This is outrageous behavior on the part of law enforcement. Apparently they entered the Mayor''s home without a "non knock warrant" and according to Mayor Calvo shot one of the dogs while it was running away from the officers. How cowardes is that? Even though the Calvo family was a victim of drug dealers and not invoved in buying drugs, the Chief of Police only expressed sympathy for the incident not an apology. He in fact defended the actions of officers as appropriate.
My symapthy goes out to the Calvo family and I hope the FBI civil right investigation shows how inappropriate the local police operation was. In addition I hope both civil and criminal lawsuits are filed that lead to financial awards for the Calvo''s and jail time and/or lost of jobs for the Chief and some of his officers.
If this story is eactly true as reported, the residents of County should ask for no less. Police abuse of this type can not be allowed nowhere in a democratic Nation. The legal system must and should set an example and route out the type of indivduals in law enforcement that belive what happend was appropriate. - Reply to this comment
- I see, A Black Mayor in Detroit is having troubles with the Cops so Maryland Cops wanted to show that there was nothing ''Racist'' in the other incident by hassling a ''White'' Mayor. ssshhheeeeeeessshhhhhhh

- This means that if you own a dog that you had best go on and kill it yourself, if you don''t, the Cops will. You have "NO" rights, Bush got rid of them along with Habeas Corpus, Posse Comitatus to mention a few. Remember "The constitution is nothing but a "G-D" piece of paper" according to our sitting President. Home Land Security (Gestapo ''Geheime Staatspolizei'' "Secret State Police" all mean the same thing. If you have a internet access all of this stands out as a blazing truth. If you don''t you''d better get it or become the next victim.

- Just for the sake of argument and debate... Let''''s pretend the raid happened to a regular lower/middle class black family in a lower class neighborhood with everything else remaining the same. Would the outcry be the same or would more people assume the police were justified in their actions?

No need to pretend. It happens all of the time. The difference is that the media ignores the daily violations of the Constitution and rule of law when it is not "good white people". - Reply to this comment
- The police in this country are out of control and unaccountable to the American people. They do as they please with impunity. How can we trust the police? We can''t. You are more likely to be killed by a cop than by a burglar.
The police must be made to adhere to the same laws as the rest of us, or this is a Police State. they must fear prosecution for illegal acts, just like every other American citizen.

- The cops sure are doing a hell of job. They arrested the mayor, his wife and her mother, ransacked their house and shot their two dogs, the couples "children" in their eyes.
And out in Sequoia National Forest, illegal immigrants from the Mexican drug cartel have planted over $1Billion (that with a B) worth of marijuana and 27 miles of irrigation systems for it and had cartel members gaurding it.
Keep up the good work police and DEA!!!! Your a government agency which means you people have no shame or remorse. What are we paying you for? - Reply to this comment
- I gave out the number to the Mayor so folks could show their support and sympathy...i gave the number to the city hall so folks could express their Anger and disappointment in OUR law.

- observer2020, yes I agree. Since they went in blazing over a box of POT, I think they should be slammed by the U.S. over this.

- mitchoncbs--If they came even close to what their mission statement says, it would be a very nice place to live. Maybe these cops should say it everyday before going out on to the streets--or have it tattoo''d on the inside of their eyelide. Bottom line: WHAT A CROCK!

- bobnjersey: You must live up north jersey. Down here in south jersey, there''s pineys and woods. Unless you go all the way down, then there''s casinos and slums. It is because of the north jersey millionaires that property tax is so high not to mention the car insurance that we''re famous for...that stinks too. Don''t get me wrong, I like SOUTH jersey and the woods and (for the most part) clean air and all the wildlife...do not venture north to the NYC overlap attitudes, etc. Although trips to Philly are always interesting.

- This outcome could have EASILY turned out more tragic. What if their "intelligence" had said this guy was armed and dangerous?
The itchy finger pet killers, could just as easily felt threatened by that dangerous Mayor.(eyes rolling)

- What''s really troubling," Calvo continued, "is they didn''t have a proper warrant to do what they did. They actually didn''t give us a warrant at all until 71 hours after it happened. And that''s really what''s disturbing -- despite all the mistakes that were made, they''re holding to their guns, saying they did nothing wrong.
