I''m not even sure the story here is the science of offshore drilling. To me, what is striking that the Bush/McCain camp would have claim with total impunity that "not a drop of oil was spilled..." That is a bold faced lie and an insult to the American people since it depends upon us being morons and not knowing anything about anything.

At issue is the question of offshore oil drilling and the issue of "seepage." Most experts claim that the number one source of pollution in the ocean is the natural seepage of oil and gas. California is a prime example. It''s argued that the best way to control the pollution is to increase offshore oil drilling because it would release the pressure that causes the seepage.

Experts also make it clear that it is time to expand offshore oil operations. The technology has improved to stop spills and we need all the oil we can get now while alternatives are being developed. The problem, experts assert, is that everyone is afraid of the environmental lobby and no public official will come out for offshore oil but the price of gas has got the publics attention. How much of our foreign oil feeds the terrorists?

National polls will bring Obama on the side of offshore Oil drilling or he is toast. Like Clinton in his second election Obama has moved quickly to the center. Hard to believe McCain is so close to Obama in the polls with the Bush failed record and failed economy! McCain must pound home ofshore drilling and he may pull off the biggest upset since Truman won!

In the Columbia Gorge that separates Oregon and Washington, you can''t put in a fencepost without angering a million environmentalists. There is a wind power generation site at the gorge containing thousands of windmills 130 feet tall. It has dramatically changed the landscape, but was it fought by environmentalists? Initially, it was hard for people to get used to, but now the windmills represent clean energy, energy independence, and a way of thinking and moving forward. We need a million more!

The battle cry should be "Turbines, not Turbans!"

By the way, it was former Senator Graham - McCain''s chief economic advisor - who backed and lobbied for the "Enron loophole" just as he lobbied for the deregulation of the mortgage market and look where that got us. Now Bush and McCain want "more drilling" to solve our energy issues - way to innovate guys. Let''s send billions overseas so that Exxon and Halliburton can make another billion.

"Crude oil is fairly benign to the environment being an organic compound. If poured on the ground the plants will shrivel up and take on an oily sheen. If left alone and watered the plants will recuperate. Crude oil is made from decayed vegetation and it will breakdown to the same elements, hydrogen and carbon, that all living organisms are made from."

Spoken like a true expert. Ya know, I''m not willing to take that chance so that the oil companies can make another billion. A clean beach and ocean is worth more to me than another fortune for some oil execs somewhere. If you are really concerned about the price of oil, ask your representatives in government to repeal the "Enron loophole" that allows for unregulated speculation in the oil markets. Speculation is driving up prices, not supply issues.

Why bother, they say when Nixon was forced to resign that 25% of the population still supported him! The thing I try to keep in mind is that the 20% Gah-Gah Club (remaining Bush Dead-Enders) are predominantly over 50, these young ones coming up do have all the baggage and racist hate that these old geezers cling to. Soon they will go the way of the other dinosaurs. (Absolutists-Ddogmaticius-Hypocritious)

Operative words ''fairly benign.'' Even if the fumes don''t asphyxiate you, you''re sure it won''t cause you some type of respiratory problems later? Yeah, sure.

It''s disgusting. Really. When a lie is exposed, a big lie with billions of dollars on the table kind of lie--not the "I did''nt have se**xual inte**rcourse with that woman" type of lie--it''s usually from Republicans. No shame at all.

The Oil Spill recovery companies and oil boom producers (containment barriers that surround oil spills) must have been practicing for the fun of it huh? Any oil mix with the water in New Orleans? No Of Course not say the Republicans and OIl Companies!
That is why they paid out millions of dollars to attempt to contain the "imaginary" spills.

isn''t it funny that with 6+ billion people world wide, issues of environmental concerns in drilling oil to sustain 6 billion people''s lives is continually brought up, not that the 6 billion people world wide are in fact an environmental concern and how they live. are we all supposed to move back into caves?? i don''t quite get the incessant ''environmental concerns'' that are brought up selectively.

It is not in the best interest for Big Oil Companies and Wall Street Speculators to continue to raise oil cost. Oil is needed in "EVERY" stage of "PRODUCTS PRODUCED" and "SERVICES RENDERED" in our nation. Even if oil is not required in the direct manufacturing process it is still required to transport the product or the people that provide labor for the production process.

As oil cost has skyrocketed many companies have closed shop or cut back production and had to layoff workers. As a result of decreased production and layoffs oil demand will decrease. With more workers laid off and no income coming in our consumer spending will drop like a rock therefore requiring less oil.

Less oil will be needed now as the oil companies are putting us all out of business. The Speculators are in the same boat, their markets will shrink because of decreased consumer spending.

So what next? These greedy corporations and market makers have under estimated the American People. As long as prices were in check we were alright playing their game but now we will fight back. Already people have started using and developing Renewable Fuels, Solar and Wind Energy to replace oil and the companies that produce their byproducts.

We will succeed as long as we work together and not let greed enter this new this new Movement.

Woe to the Big Oil Companies%u2026.

So the Republicans lied once again and the media help spread the lie once again before learning the facts.

The sad part is the truth will be buried by the lie and most will never hear the truth. Oil was spilled and damage was done.

not one drop was spilled, millions of gallons were spilled. Let us all congratulate Congress for sensibly voting NO on sacrificing our environmental preserves for zero benefit to consumers. Wise decision, and the only opponents are a bunch of idiots being conned by the administration, trying to distract from the real issue of excessive petro-mega-corp profits.

Frankly, those regions of the south are such shi*tholes, who really cares if oil spills upon their shores.

Interesting logic, considering that the Do-Nothing Democrat Congress has allowed gas prices to more than DOUBLE since they took control a year and a half ago. AND they are planning to add MORE taxes to oil. Thank you, Dumbocrats!
