I can''t believe he "folded" at the last minute.....was he afraid the judge would give him more than 3 years?

At least he took his punishment, unlike the Browns of Plainfield, NH who held up in their house and shirked their responsibility. That was a waste of our tax dollars with all those agents watching the place 24/7. I think 3 years is harsh, but at least Wesley Snipes had the guts and brains to show up for his day in court, unlike the Browns.

This is quite comical....the same people who argue and fuss because they say that upper income people don''t pay their fair share of taxes are more than willing to give Snipes a pass because he won''t be around to "entertain" us? Geez

I didn''t think our government was supposed to make examples out of citizens. Snipes should be punished according to his crime. They were all non-violent misdemeanors. He shouldn''t be in prison, he should be fined.

No wonder our prisons are too full to house violent offenders but we can lock up Martha Stewart and Wesley Snipes.

We have idiots running the justice system.

"In many states, probation is a rare or impossible sentence for murder. But a Dallas Morning News investigation found that it happened in Texas at least 120 times from 2000 through 2006." from DMN 22-Nov-2007

Murder someone and get probation. Cheat on your taxes though and you deserve some real jail time...

We know where our government''s priorities are. Protecting themselves, not us.

While I make a point about how our government really is more focused on benefiting itself instead of the general public, Snipes should have just paid his taxes. Not too bright.

What a bunch of whining morons on here. This guy had every opportunity to set things straight without having to resort to prison, but this is the route HE took.

I swear some of you just have Bush and Halliburton on Copy/Paste for any post that comes up however irrelevant it may be.

How many children would his tax dollars insure under the Clinton or Obama plans? That is how you Libs need to look at this...

Remember the only crime for which Al Capone was ever convicted was tax evasion.

fibonacci - Is that why you live in Germany??

Oh by the way, he was white. When it comes to paying your taxes, I don''t think the government cares what race or creed you are.

I had a friend that tried to avoid paying income taxes and he ended up in prison too. He got three years. When he got out, he still tried to get out of paying his taxes. The old boy is dead now but he was quite a
card.

because his three convictions were all misdemeanors and the actor had no previous criminal record.
---
"In my mind these are serious crimes, albeit misdemeanors," Hodges said.
---
Criminal tax prosecutions are relatively rare - usually the cases are handled in civil court, where the government has a lower burden of proof.
---

Continually amazed, that old white men in the GOP commit crime after crime after crime bilking taxpayers of tens of millions, committing fraud while elected to public office, committing acts of perversion, and adultry, and prostitution, gambling alcholism, drug abuse, Racism, Sexism, bigotry, theft, financial industry manipulation and fraud.
Yet NO ONE seems to want to make an EXAMPLE out of them to DETER anyone else from doing it.
Yet here they go after a popular actor and throw the book at him. coincidentally is a minority.
continuing to add to Blacks claims that Blacks are Always given a harsher sentence for the same crime or lesser crimes than Whites.

our country continues to spiral into the sewers led by conservative political hacks.

He should have just karate chopped everyone in the courtroom, dived out the nearest window, hopped on his supersonic motorcycle and popped a wheelie at 100 MPH into the sunset. I wonder why he didn''t?

Are we safer now that Wesley Snipes is in prison? Why does this make sense to anyone?
Posted by fsw3 at 08:25 AM : Apr 25, 2008

It isn''t a matter of safety, it''s a matter of enforcing the law. his fine will be more than enough to offset his prison expenses. Maybe this will be a lesson to other dumbasses who think they can avoid paying taxes.

I''ll bet Wes becomes an advocate of the FairTax! LOL

Weslely pushed the government''s patience envelope and it emploded on him and the goons he hired to help me avoid legal payment of taxes. I think he intended to avoid taxes and thought he could use them as his excuse. 3 years in the slammer is a bit tough, though. I don''t think there is anyplace in a court of law for "revenge sentencing". If I had been the Judge I would have ordered him jailed until all back taxes were paid, then put him on probation for 5 years and have the IRS audit his tax returns, like forever. That would have been ample punishment and serve as an example to the rest of the arrogant air heads out there.

Wes, affirmative action is NOT a pass for not paying da man, bro. Let me guess.....your next move will be to file an appeal on ''racial'' grounds. Am I right?
