State Of Emergency Declared, Chief Justice Replaced And Communications Cut In Capital
- MichaelT,
You are right. I was completely wrong to say things were perfectly "fine." Of course, what i meant was that things have become worse in the wake of the policies of the Bush administration. If you are such a stickler on facts, you will acknowledge that reality (of course you won''t). Everything i said in my previous post is true if you exchange "fine" for "much much much much much much better." So you are right, genius MichaelT.
I see you list 29 deaths of non-Muslims twenty years ago as evidence of your great understanding and insight. Twenty nine deaths. Yes, you could add more. you probably will in a mad-crazed post. Do you understand "orders of magnitude"? Like hundreds? Thousands? Tens of Thousands? Will we hit a million? Yes, you are so right, things are better now than ever before. - Reply to this comment
- When BUSH and CHENEY deliberately LIED about WMDs in order to INVADE Iraq to secure the Oil and establish permanent US military bases, it FUELS THE FIRE.
The massive Death and Destruction waged by the US in Iraq is only one of the crimes.
Now Pakistan, where both Osama Bin Forgotten and Nuclear Weapons DO EXIST, is under increasing pressure from enraged anti-American muslims and nationalists. So the dictator that we like in Pakistan may fall.
WAR based on LIES and GREED will not succeed. We should have learned that lesson in Vietnam after killing a couple million Vietnamese and 55,000 US troops.
When will the American People WAKE UP and Throw our murderous thug leaders in JAIL where they belong!

- Dear Faisalnawaz,
Thanks for the post. Could you please tell us more about your view of the "extremism" in Pakistan? Who are the "dangerous extremists"? In which way are Pakistani government officials corrupt? I am not challenging your interpretation, I would just like more information about how and why the events of the last day or two have happened, and you seem to have a more closeup view than the bland media has. - Reply to this comment
- General Musharraf%u2019s decision to impose emergency in Pakistan is absolutely right. And majority of the public is favoring General Musharraf%u2019s decision. General Musharraf is right man to stop extremism in Pakistan which is spreading dangerously and the corrupt politicians of Pakistan will be able to stop these dangerous terrorists. Every sensible Pakistani is with General Musharraf and supports his emergency%u2019s decision.

Do I think making Muslims happy will make them like the West? No, but it beats making them dislike the west. I never had the slightest thought we should make them "like" the west as in "similar to" or "identical to", but the idea that that we could make them allies of the west was definitely a good idea. Your dudes Bush and Rumsfeld and Cheney were the ones with the bizarre idea that we can make them "like" the West. That is your sicko idea, not mine.
Do you realize why fundamentalist Islamists have made such inroads in the last 20 years in the Middle East and North Africa? %u2013 by offering schools and health care. That is a fact. I did not suggest giving folks in the Muslim world a bunch of Mercedes, nor has anyone, so you are a little off on that one in the direction of being a complete liar. As for the percentage of Muslims who want to kill Americans, you are just making that up. Another complete lie. Just pure skunkskat out of that hat. How many of your type want to kill Muslims? The bombs and guns come from America.
Have you ever worked in the Muslim world? No, of course not. I have. Twenty years ago things were fine. Now they''re not. Why? Fundamentalism on both sides, Iceman. - Reply to this comment
- "Giving Muslims money or help accomplishes NOTHING. It causes corruption, it"s stolen, and it"s used to buy guns and make bombs. Muslims understand nothing but brutal force."

That"s the bad Muslims. The extremists. That"s the way much of the Muslim Middle East is -- even Bush''s buddies in Turkey.
Calling Turkey a democracy is like calling Joan Rivers a swimsuit model.
The American Muslim community is not like that, by and large, and Bush has rightly condemned religious bigotry like yours, that masquerades as American patriotism, calling those who practice it "the worst of humankind":
"America counts millions of Muslims amongst our citizens, and Muslims make an incredibly valuable contribution to our country. Muslims are doctors, lawyers, law professors, members of the military, entrepreneurs, shopkeepers, moms and dads. And they need to be treated with respect. In our anger and emotion, our fellow Americans must treat each other with respect.
I''ve been told that some [Muslims] fear to leave home...they''re afraid they"ll be intimidated. That should not and that will not stand in America.
Those who feel like they can intimidate our fellow citizens to take out their anger don''t represent the best of America, they represent the worst of humankind, and they should be ashamed of that kind of behavior."

Bush regime ally and military dictator, Pervez Musharraf, is in big trouble.
I just watched a video speech from him, entitled "Musharraf defends emergency rule - 3-Nov-07".
He sounded as though George Bush wrote his speech for him.
Heckava'' job, Pervie!

As you know, the film is based on and dedicated to the memory of Guy Fawkes, and was intended to be released on the 5th of November, Guy Fawkes Day.
The protagonist wears a Guy Fawkes mask throughout the film.
Let me be the first to wish the CBSNews community a blessed and happy Guy Fawkes Day. - Reply to this comment
- Yes, it is hard to understand exactly what to make of the developments in Pakistan.
One thing that is crystal clear and beyond rational debate is this: The USA has lost all credibility for leadership in the region.
Take our 500 billion plus dollars lost killing innocent Iraqis and Americans and put them into developing schools and hospitals throughout the Muslim world and we would have the credible leadership to help solve a crisis like this one. - Reply to this comment
- In subcontinent people are enjoying too much of freedom and the self descipline is on the decline. If the intention of Mr.Musharaff is making a better Pak the declaration of emergency may be welcomed. But he should not be like the other politicians in the sub continent. Let us wait and see.

- Speaking of movies, I just watched "V for Vendetta."
It depicts a futuristic fascist government that uses the threat of terrorist attacks as a pretext to arrest and torture people in secret prisons.
How do the writers dream up such wildly imaginative scenarios ? - Reply to this comment
- I"m not belittling the fact that American casualties are down in October, but the past rates of casulaties in this war have ebbed and flowed in regular ups and downs.
The graph below shows the pattern.
It was stupid from a historical point of view, just ignorant and naive, as even the Republican presidential candidates concede, to have tried to transform that region by the use of American Christian [almost entirely Christian] troops.
The armchair cheerleaders here wouldn"t risk their precious lives in that hellhole for such a stupid mission.

- The Muslim Middle East is insanity.
Check out the fact-based film "A Mighty Heart," with those terrifying scenes of Karachi city life.
This is the part of the world where "Bubble Boy" Bush was going to impose New England-style democracy with American guns and tanks.
It was just beyond belief that anyone would still be so naive and stubborn, at the cost of the lives of American servicemen.
Bush wouldn"t risk a drop of his own blood on such a quixotic campaign. - Reply to this comment
