Hoping For Endorsement, Democrat Front-Runners Withstand Barbs On Terrorism, Corporate Influence
- It is better to reform what passes for a progressive party than to let the right wing nuts have the executive branch again. Vote in the primaries for someone you can beleive in.

Exactly! Those who are supporting 3rd parties are in effect saying "I hate both major parties, so rather then try to fix them I'm going to vote for Snoopy, even though he has less chance to win and do anything to help the country then Santa Claus." It's idealism over realism. That fact is that the bulk of American voters are not going to vote for a third party, so the only way to effect change in the system is from inside of it. - Reply to this comment
- perception5,
Oh God, I have to defend Hillary again from the vast right wing conspiracy.
Do you even think about what you post? Hillary wasn't lieing to say that Bill wasn't involved with Monica when he hadn't told her yet. Sha was wrong but that's what she thought at the time so she wasn't lieing.
Your hatred is causing you to lose sight of the facts. - Reply to this comment

You mixed up so many unrelated issues and tied them together as one it is not possible to respond to you directly.
Al qaida is a gang of thugs, they are not a government. I did not suggest anyone attempt to negotiate with gangsters.
However, the leaders of Syria, Lebanon, and Iran are the leaders of their nations, whether we agree with them or not. And, they should be treated as such.
Palestinians are being whipsawed by US "foreign policy" due to the fact Zionists are largely responsible for influencing policy towards them and Israel. Which means they are going to always get the "short end of the stick."
And, therein lies the problem. So long as the US continues insisting Israel is not subject to UN resolutions or international law, i.e., is "special," it does not matter what the US does.
Until Israel is brought under the same rules that apply to everyone else, the "war on terror" is pointless. - Reply to this comment
- What a slug feast, Dennis did not seem as loony without Gravel and Dodd seems to becoming comfortable on the trail and was impressive, Edwards and Obama should move on before they do more damage to themselves this is not their time, Hillary a ball buster girl and Biden is a hoot.....I actually have no issue with Lobbyist but I do have an issue with this 40 percent increase in discretionary spending during the Repug reign, we need to move money back to caring for this countries base needs like infrastructure, education, worker safety if they pay off is gone who cares the lobbyist shrink again K street closes their doors. I want a tax cut to a 15 percent federal base the current 35 percent is way too high. I do not want my tax dollars going to these global warming denier states who are not preparing for the hit coming to their aged water systems and those that States that veto repair of their highways waiting for federal monies to bail them out after people die disasters. Toooo much tax revenue at the federal level, too many earmarks, too much discretionary spending is the problem, while our dollars are building bridges to no where others are falling down. Earmarks have gone from less than 3,000 to well over 33,000 since the Repugs Contract with America.

The president does not take an oath to "defend the country."
The president is not the Lone Ranger.
The president takes an oath to defend the US Constitution. As do all public officials, including members of the military.
George Bush has done more to undermine the US Constitution than anyone in history, with the possible exception of Abraham Lincoln.
And you clearly demonstrate that you likewise do not support the US Constitution. - Reply to this comment
- tuckerndfw,
We should always fully exhaust diplomacy before sending the military anywhere but you fail to recognize that there are people in the world who don't want to sit down for beer and bbq. Some would want tomato-based bbq and some vinegar-based, it could get really ugly. Being from Texas Bush would have the sauces on the side and that might keep the peace for awhile.
I've made it clear that I don't think that Israel should be treated special but I also recognize that since the U.S. and U.K. helped to push the Arabs out of the way in order to resettle the Jews from europe after WW2 that we can't walk away from the problem as though we don't have a responsibility to help resolve it.
Because the sides tend to fight with tanks and guns we have to take more than bbq with us when we visit, we have to supplement diplomatic efforts with military power because that's what the enemies of peace on all sides prefer to use for enhancing their diplomatic position.
The fact of life in the region is that peace prospers when there's a relative military balance and no one feels they have the advantage. Then a ceasefire can be achieved. Most players in the region, including the Israelis & Americans & even Hezballah understand this. Al Quaeda does not because the only thing on their radar is war.

....Does everyone remember Hillary's now famous sit-down on the TODAY show with Katie during Slick Willie's denial of a relation with that intern......Monica.
When asked by Katie "Hillary where do you think all these rumors are coming from?"
Hillary said "Oh Katie it's just a "right-wing conspriacy".
Then a few days later Slick Willie, after finding out about the little white spot on Monica's dress, told Hillary and the American people the truth.
Just like then, today Hillary Rotten Clinton continues to LIE.
We hope all you "principled" liberals factor that in when you vote for your next president. - Reply to this comment
- Unless martial law is declared, then the congress, constitution and our rights are worthless.
Posted by Klingon69 at 11:36 AM : Aug 08, 2007
Technically, martial law can only be declared when the courts are not functioning.
The president cannot unilaterally declare martial law based on some whimsical claim that the US is being attacked by criminals.
In the event martial law is declared, that still does not confer the president with dictatorial powers. Martial law subjects everyone, including the president, to the provisions of the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice), which provides essentially the same rights as the Constitution. - Reply to this comment
- It is obvious some people shouldn't carry a gun till they know which is the correct way to shoot it.

Yes. That is why there are firearm safety classes and shooting training available in most cities. I introduced my son to guns at a very young age. I explained about the risks, that it was not a toy, and took him shooting. If a gun-owning parent will take the time to teach the child to respect the guns instead of fearing them, there would be alot less accidental shootings (and mayube, just maybe less intentional shootings as well). - Reply to this comment
- The president has very few powers to do anything without Congressional approval, and that is by design.

Article II of the Constitution gives the Executive more power than you think. Congress can go take a friggin hike for all it's contributions to protect its own country. Anyway the issue of how they all faired at the union forum was rather boring. - Reply to this comment

- It obviously is beyond yours - no capacity to form any sensible response to anything you don't understand ..... what you need to learn is how to see all sides of every issue (at least 2 sides) before resorting to insults and insinuations ..... This is for the benefit of other more Educated people on this thread - you're a lost case ! ROFLMAO .... Cheers !!

- We can and should get out of Iraq but we can't turn our back entirely on the middle east or ignore those who attack us or the peace process.
Posted by realpatriot1 at 10:41 AM : Aug 08, 2007
We agree.
But, the way we engage is diplomatically.
The president should invite the leaders of all those nations to the White House for beer and bbq.
Or, in the alternate, he should visit them and partake of goat, cheese, dates and fruit juice.
But, sending in the military as diplomats will never lead to anything other than more violence, instability and terrorism.
Until the US begins to treat everyone in the Middle East the same way we treat Israel, or, in the reverse, treat Israel the same way we treat everyone else, there will be no peace or stability.
The primary problem for the US in the Middle East is our insistence that Israel is "special."
Israel is not "special."
Invading nations whose citizens attack us as individuals is a very foolish policy. A policy that should be eliminated. Using the military as policemen is an abuse and misuse of the military. - Reply to this comment

Wow!!! Considering what we have today that is quite a comparison. If Cheney didn't have a gun he wouldn't have shot a man in the face. It is obvious some people shouldn't carry a gun till they know which is the correct way to shoot it. - Reply to this comment

Man I wish that would happen I got two in my state that I would love to say HIT THE ROAD JACK!!!Being realistic it will never happen that we can fire them only when there time is up at the voting booth. So they do not rig the voting machines this time everyone should vote absentee ballot wouldn't that be nice (1) the media could not predict a winner % minutes after the polls close and every vote would be counted. I don't know if we can do that but I am for it. - Reply to this comment
- The start of this post by Muddy-Lady is very intriguing and it seems everyone else that responded missed this part i copied here - It really shows and explains alot about Muddy - 'Telling children they can't be born ' (?) - everything she started with was and is still a mis-statement ..... It's you Repugs who are trying to tell people what to do, the majority of Americans believe this is still a free country where you don't tell me what to do, about something very legal and PRIVATE. BTW, GOD is not a Fascist (or fascist) - it's Dumbya that's leading us down that path. Cheers !
